In Edo: 8 secondary school students expelled over cultism

gEight secondary school students have reportedly been expelled for their alleged involvement in secretcult activitiesin various schools in the state.
Commissioner for Education,Mr Gideon Obhakhan, who disclosed this development in Benin, said that over 20 students who were suspected to be members of cult groups are also being investigated and have been suspending pending outcome of investigations.
The 20 suspected cultists will also be expelled if their participation in cultist services become confirmed.

Obhakhan pointed out that if those under investigation by the police are found to be culpable, they would be expelled from their various schools to serve as a deterrent to others.

According to Obhakhan, this decision by the state government was aimed at checking the wave of secret activities now spreading across secondary and primary schools in the state.

He also added that the government is working towards collaborating with the anti cultism unit of the Edo State Police Command to flush out the menace of secret cult activities amongst pupils and students in all the primary and secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The commissioner also dispelled the rumour making the rounds that the newly established Edo State university, Iyhamo, is jointly owned by private/public partnership, stressing that Edo Etate has the full ownership of the multi million project.

NECO To Adopt CBT Once Facilities Are Adequately In Place

The National Examination Council(NECO), has stated that it is not ready to migrate to the use of Computer Based Test(CBT) mode for objective questions as earlier planned until adequate facilities are in place.
This was disclosed by the Abuja Liaison Officer of the council, Mr Abdul Mustapha.
According to him, certain efforts have been made to see this development come to pass but it will not be possible until certain states fix the requisite facilities.
In His Words, “NECO examination has components of essay, practical, oral and objective.
“CBT is only possible with objective component; machinery has been put in place to do the CBT in the objective component.
“However, that will take time; because to do CBT, states must have centres for it.
