Ekiti Students Hail Fayose For Fulfilling Electoral Promises

The Leadership of Federation of Ekiti State Students’ National Body (FESSU), headed by Comrade Obayemi Oluwaseun, has thanked governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state for fulfilling some of his electoral promises to them.

The latest was the release of bursary and scholarship forms to Ekiti state students schooling at various institutions of learning across the nation.

In a statement signed by the union’s secretary, Samuel Arowolo and made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the governor had earlier this week released a notification of bursary and scholarship forms to all students of Ekiti origin, a form which will be out for access between August 15 and October 30 this year.

FESSU also appealed to the governor to in his magnanimity to fulfill the rest of his promises to the students, especially the mobility aspect since the last administration had failed to release the bus purchased for the union, alleging that it was in support of Fayose’s then gubernatorial aspirations.

The students also urged the state government to give employments to former qualified students’ leaders in the state and also make it a point of necessity to appoint SA on youths and students affairs so as to serve as intermediary between the governor and the youths in the state.

Meanwhile, the governor has declared August 6 as Ekiti artisans’ day during a meetingwith the artisans in the state recently.

NABTEB '21-yr-old Taraba Polytechnic runs unaccredited courses'

Taraba state's 21 year-old Polytechnic has been running courses which have not been accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NABTEB).

According to a Daily Trust report, the chairman of the Joint Action Committee of Tertiary Institutions the state, AbduKarim Bello, said this on Wednesday at a news conference in in Jalingo.
Bello asked the state government to address the situation which has negatively impacted graduates of the institution, especially with regards to securing employment outside the state.
"Though the polytechnic was established to train middle level workers in the state, government should ensure the accreditation of all courses and facilities in order add value and make the certificates awarded recognized nationwide," Bello said.

He also urged the government to ensure that facilities and building at the new site of the polytechnic meet accreditation requirements.

Federal University Gashua Yobe Governor excited as FUGASHUA gets 240 pioneer students The Federal University of Gashua (FUGASHUA), Gashua, Yobe state, has held its first matriculation ceremony with 240 pioneer students.

Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Gashua (FUGASHUA), Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman

The Federal University of Gashua (FUGASHUA), Gashua, Yobe state, has held its first matriculation ceremony with 240 pioneer students.
Speaking at the event, Yobe state governor, Ibrahim Gaidam commended the federal government for establishing the federal university of Gashua.
According to him, the establishment of the university indicates the desire to provide qualitative, accessible and affordable tertiary education to his people.
Noting that the university will help correct the state's education disadvantage, Geidam promised to support the university's management.
The governor lauded the leadership of the University for the Work done so far in the fledgling institution.
“All I can say at the moment is to pay tribute to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Gashua, Professor Shehu Abdul-Rahman, the registrar, Alhaji Sule Dauda and the pioneer staff, both academic and nonacademic for their invaluable contributions to the development of the university in terms of impressive infrastructural development in addition to rehabilitation of what they found on ground," he said,
FUGASHUA, which came to existence in February 2013, is one of the 12 new Federal Universities established by Goodluck Jonathan in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Nasir El-Rufai Kaduna gov cancels school fees, promises free food, uniforms From September, students attending public primary and secondary schools in Kaduna state will get it all for free, with free food and uniforms as well, according to Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

 Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai

Come September, students attending public primary and secondary schools in Kaduna state will get it all for free, with free food and uniforms to boot.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai made the promise at the weekend during a town hall meeting held in Zaria.
“From September your children will attend schools for 9 years free of charge," the governor said.
"We intend to provide uniform, feeding in our primary and junior schools in the state.
"There will also be no more PTA fees in our schools.

It will be recalled that the past governor of the state, Ramalan Yero, had in the build-up to the 2015 gubernatorial elections described El-Rufai, free education promise as ''laughable' and 'insulting'.
"It is so laughable for somebody whose children already school in United Kingdom (UK) because you don't believe in the system here. Because you had the opportunity of taking your children there," Yero had said through his spokesperson, Ahmed Maiyaki.
"This is laughable, insulting for somebody to imagine that he will provide free education or his children will come back to public schools when he does not even have children that will attend school right now."
With the recent announcement, it then seems El-Rufai is determined to fulfil his campaign promises.
