A 13-year-old student has been killed after a Toyota Camry car drove into her mother's shop and struck her around 10:30 am.
Student Pulse gathered that the tragedy occurred while the girl, identified as Sukura Jimoh, was assisting her mother at a shop located at Ile-Olowola Compound in Ilobu, Irepodun LGA, Osun State.
Eyewitnesses say the car, a Toyota Camry with registration JJJ 825DB veered off the road and into the shop where it hit the girl, killing her instantly.
It was alleged that the driver of the car, 28-year-old Gbenga Ayangoke, of Ile Iyaloja Compound Erin-Osun, was driving at high speed when he lost control of the car.
He only narrowly escaped lynching, whisked away by police officers from Ilobu before the mob could harm him.

National Education Data Survey NPC studies parent's 'behaviours and attitudes' for action plan

The 2015 NEDS survey will provide policy makers with accurate and timely data to formulate action plan aimed at increasing enrolment, attendance and learning to achieve Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education Commission and Education for All goals.

Nigeria's National Population Commission (NPC) has begun a National Education Data Survey (NEDS) focusing on parents and guardians’' attitudes as it designs an action plan towards achieving set education goals.
In an address read by the Ekiti State Director of the Commission, Adeniyi Fadair, the NPC Chairman, Eze Duruiheoma, said the survey aims at generating information on the educational status of the Nigerian population.
He said the outcome of the exercise, holding from May 11 to August 14, 2015, will study parents’ and guardians' attitudes.
“The information will provide insights into the behaviours and attitudes of parents and guardians in the country,” he said.
He said the survey will provide policy makers with accurate and timely data to formulate action plan aimed at increasing enrolment, attendance and learning to achieve Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education Commission and Education for All goals for the children of school age.
“The outcome of the 2015 NEDS will inform programming that would improve levels of student enrolment and attendance as well as facilitate equitable access to quality schooling for all children in Nigeria,” he stated.
Issues like reasons for not attending school or dropping out, frequency and reasons for absenteeism, the costs of education and related issues will be addressed by the survey.
Conducted every five years, the 2015 NEDS survey is the third after the 2004 and 2010 editions.

Visual Arts, Erotic SelfUCSD students must perform naked before course mates, lecturer or fail course

To pass Professor Ricardo Dominguez's art course as a student of the University of California, San Diego, you must perform naked before your colleagues of fail. Dominguez will be there and naked with you.

A visual arts course at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), requires students to perform naked before their course mates and the professor in charge, in order to pass.
Student Pulse gathered that it is either the students perform naked or fail the course which is taught art professor Ricardo Dominguez, who also poses nude in the classes.
Student Pulse gathered from a NY Daily News report quoting the syllabus of the course that students are giving assignments that require them to “create a gesture that traces the outlines or speaks about your ‘erotic self(s)."
"Using autobiography, dream, confession, fantasy or other means to invent one’s self in a new way, or to evoke the variety of selves in our imagination, the course experiments with and explores the rich possibilities available to the contemporary artist in his or her own persona," the class description on the Department of Visual Arts website says.
A concerned parent recently raised alarm over the nudity requirement of the course.
“To blanketly say, ‘You must be naked in order to pass my class’ — it makes me sick to my stomach,” she said.
But Dominguez, who holds his classes with only candlelight and gets naked alongside his students, says he has not received any complaints in all the 11 years he has been teaching the course.
“It’s a standard canvas for performance art and body art," he said
"If they are uncomfortable with this gesture, they should not take the course.”
Several people went online to protest the course which they call "sexual harassment."
"I think it is sexual harassment and he should be stopped," Susan Davis wrote.
A few students, like Michelle Currier, who claims to have taken the course defended it.
I had to take this final a couple years back for an upper division art class at UCSD," Currier wrote on Facebook.
"We had a choice between being nude or doing something emotionally "naked" and every student but one chose to do the nude performance.
"It was uncomfortable for some of us but we were adults and knew what we were getting ourselves into from day 1 of the class."
There has been no response from Dominguez and the UCS Visual Arts Division Chairman, Jordan Crandall.

UNILORINPost UTME 2015: Basics

Following the conclusion of the 2015 JAMB CBT Examination, successful candidates who meet up University of Ilorin cut off mark have longed to see the basic requirements for the UNILORIN Post UTME 2015. Many others also wish to know when the UNILORIN Post UTME form will be out on sale as well as what to expect in this year’s screening process. Whichever category you fall, we think you will find this article useful.
List of basic requirements for UNILORIN Post UTME 2015
1) To qualify for the UNILORIN post UTME exam, you must have sat for any of the O’ Level exams either with your released result or your awaiting result and already meet up with the school’s minimum cut-off mark for your course in JAMB.
2) UNILORIN post UTME exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT).
3) There are going to be 50 questions and the test will last for 25-30minutes.
4) The questions will mostly be categorized into 5 parts which are: English Lang., Mathematics, Biology, General Questions (with Geography having higher priority) and Current Affairs.
5) Generally, UNILORIN doesn’t have a specific proportion with which the subjects and accompanying questions are given to candidates which means a candidate may have the afore-listed subjects in the proportion/ratio 20:10:5:7:8 (i.e English Lang.= 20, Mathematics=10, Biology=5, General Question=7, Current Affairs=8) while another candidate will have his/her combination in the ratio 15:4:8:17:6 and so on which means the proportion varies from candidate to candidate. However, one thing is certain; you will be provided with 50 questions in total.
6) UNILORIN does not test how much you know about the department or faculty you are coming in for.  That has been taken care of in your O’ levels and in your JAMB.
7) No official date has been announced for the sale of the post-UTME form by the school, but we are guessing one month or more from the time of this post.
8) The date for the commencement of the sale of the post UTME forms would be posted in the dailies, the school website and some other websites on of which will surely be Pulse.ng
9) No official price for the school’s post UTME form has been announced yet but it should be between N3000 and N4000 because last year’s price was N3000 and it was N2000 in the previous year.
10) The form will be purchased online on the school website using either the Verve or Master Card payment platforms.  PLEASE NOTE THAT FORMS WILL NOT BE SOLD OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL WEBSITE.
11) As is the practice of all Nigerian Federal Universities, UNILORIN also gives higher priority to candidates in her catchment area. So you should not be surprised if you score 220 in JAMB and 80% in the post UTME and you’re not admitted but someone else with a score of 200 in JAMB and 60% in the post UTME gains admission.

12) UNILORIN catchment areas are: The Middle Belt States which are Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, etc. Some of the South Western states are also considered in some cases.

13) The UNILORIN post UTME cut off mark is generally 50% except for the highly competitive courses which are between 60% to 70%. So if you score anything less than 50% in the post UTME exam, your chances of getting admitted are slim to none.
14) All that is required of you on the day of the exam is your printout and a pen to sign the attendance.
15) Your result will be sent to you via text message so be sure of the phone number you will provide while doing your registration although it will also be available on the school website.
16) A text message will be sent to you if you have been offered admission or by checking the school website.
17) Religion is not a basis for admission into UNILORIN.
18) UNILORIN provides two centers for the post UTME exam which are the Lagos center at Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja and the other center at the school premises in Ilorin. You are to choose one of these centers for your exam.
19) UNILORIN remedial students will also have to sit for the post UTME because it increases their chances of being offered their desired courses although what actually qualifies them for admission is meeting up with the minimum 50% pass in their courses but this does not guarantee that they would be offered their desired courses.
All the best!
