Nigerian Student Becomes Winner Of Microsoft Contest

A student from Lagos became one of the winners of a contest organized by Microsoft that asked young people from around the world to submit an idea to address a social issue through technology in their communities.

 The 2015 YouthSpark Challenge for Change announced 10 grand-prize winners of a global contest that helps young people to turn the causes close to their hearts into tangible ways to do good in the world.

Saviour Okusenogu, 17, from Lagos, became one of this year’s grand prize winners. He wants to develop a project to spark an interest in science and engineering for kids in developing countries. He plans to bring fun and interactive science experiments and other projects to secondary schools with hope that they will get kids far more excited than the abstract, conceptual ways many kids learn about those topics.

“It’s a very great opportunity for students like me, and for people who want to change their communities with science and technology,” he said.

This year’s winners created compelling solutions to help their community spanning a variety of social issues including education, computer science and digital literacy. Find the full list of winners here!

As one of the prizes is a trip to Nicaragua, the winners of will soon travel there to learn about social entrepreneurship and development issues.

Other prizes are a $2,500 cash grant, and a Microsoft technology bundle (Surface Pro3, Windows Phone, and Office 365) to help them develop their projects further.

POLICE ARREST 6 SUSPECTED CULTISTS IN BENUE

The Police in Benue State have arrested six people in connection with cult activities from different locations in Makurdi metropolis.

Spokesman of the command, Austin Ezeani, said that the arrest was made possible following the determination of the police to clamp down on cultists in the state in a renewed effort to ensure that residents can move about freely without molestation.

Daily Trust reports that incidences of killing occasioned by cult clashes have become rampart in the state, especially in recent weeks where at least three or more people are hacked down mercilessly on daily basis at different areas of the state.

Ezeani also told our correspondent in Makurdi that the command, in response to recent deadly activities of cultists, recorded huge success within the local government areas of the state.

He said the arrest of the six suspects were made by the ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘D’ divisions of the police command in the state capital and that dangerous weapons such as guns, knives, charms and axes were recovered from them.

The spokesman further warned those involved in cultism to have a change of mind and turn a new leaf or the police would fish them out from their various hiding places.

Governor Samuel Ortom had in his inaugural speech declared amnesty for people in possession of illegal arms in the state, urging them to willingly surrender their weapons and be integrated back into the society or face the wrath of the law.
“We call on all unlawfully armed persons who have been terrorising innocent citizens to immediately surrender their arms, be free and get integrated into our reform programme, or we shall pursue them down to their holes,” the governor said.

Tragic!! Two 2 Anambra State University Students Found Dead After Using S3x Enhancing Drug


According to Daily Independent, 2 students of a University in Anambra State were found dead in a hostel room located near their school, according to a report by.

The female student is from Imo State. She visited her boy friend and they went in together on Saturday but never woke up until their doors were forced open by the police after a neighbor raised the alarm. The male student was 300level student of public administration.
They allegedly died after sex romp and their neighbors never knew until their bodies started decomposing.
The guy allegedly drugged the girl to have access to free sex which resulted to her death and he equally took the pills and lay beside her.

Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) from Awkuzu removed both bodies and deposited then at an undisclosed morgue.

The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Uche Ezeh while reacting to the incident said investigations were ongoing to ascertain the veracity of the case but confirmed the incident while charting with Daily Independent Metro.

Three Students Arrested For Internet ‎Fraud In Ondo State (Photo)

Three students, Fisayo Adetoro a 300 level student of Joseph Ayodele Babalola University, (JABU) in Ikeji Arakeji, Osun state, Emmanuel Omole and Wale Ayeni‎ who are both students of the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA) all pictured above, have been arrested by the Ondo state police command for engaging in internet fraud.

Announcing their arrest, the Ondo state police spokesperson, Oluwole Ogodo in a statement released yesterday June 10th, said the 3 undergraduate students were arrested at “Ilesha Garage and Delta Hotel” in Akure following intelligence report.

“Through online transactions, the syndicate had, sometime in April 2015, requested six i-phones valued at Nine Hundred and Eighty Four Thousand Naira (N984,000:00k) from Ajiboye Adeyinka Kabir of No. 3, Oyekunle Street, Ajegunle, Lagos State.

“Ajiboye brought the six i-phones to Akure as requested by the syndicate on 10/5/2015. On arrival at Ondo garage Akure, the three fraudsters took him in their operational vehicle, a Nissan Armanda Jeep with Registration Number JS-28-EKY, and pretended to be heading for Government House, Akure.

On the way, they made a detour to Fiwasaye-Ijapo Road, Akure where they forcefully took the I-phones from Ajiboye, and pushed him out of the vehicle in motion. Ajiboye sustained various degrees of injuries and was rushed by Policemen at Ijapo Division to the Police Clinic, Akure for immediate medical attention.

On 25/5/2015, the syndicate also contacted one Akinola Segun of No. 29/31 Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos, and placed an order for another set of five I-phones valued at Eight Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira (N820,000:00k).

They again lied that they were lecturers at the Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin. On arrival in Akure on 25/5/2015 at about 16:30hrs, they conveyed Akinola in their operational jeep to a hotel on Ondo Road, Akure.
The three then drugged his food with swinol tablets and made away with the five I-phones.

The syndicate however ran out of luck on 2/6/2015 when they unknowingly contacted the same Akinola Segun on a different website and ordered five I-phones, and deceitfully presented themselves as lecturers from the College of Agriculture, Akure.

Akinola Segun immediately contacted the Akure Area Command’s office where the Area Commander, ACP.

Edward Ajogun psc, with his team of detectives employed professional tactics that lead to their arrest of the three students.”

Emmanuel Omole and Wale Ayeni have been expelled from their school. Items recovered from them after their arrest includes a Nissan Armanda Jeep, with Registration Number JS-28-EKY, valued at Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira.

Three 16GB I-phones, (ii) one HTC phone, (iii) one Blackberry Q10, (iv) one Techno phone, (v) Gold rings, (vi) Gold necklace and (vii) Gold ear ring, all valued at Six Hundred and Sixty Seven Thousand Naira.
