NYSC Official Updates: Notice to Corps Members

National Youth Service Corps, NYSC notice board – Get latest updates from the NYSC Management here.
Updates: NYSC 2016 Batch A Stream I Camp Date.
The NYSC 2016 Batch A Stream I Camp date has been shifted to 1st April 2016 instead of 30th March because of public holiday. NYSC management apologises for any inconveniences this may cause to the PCM and the general public. This new change does not affect Stream II. For more, check: NYSC Batch ‘A’ Mobilization Exercise Timetable.
To 2015 Batch ‘A’ Corps members.
The attention of the NYSC Management has been drawn to a statement purportedly issued at the instance of the Director-General that final clearance for 2015 Batch ‘A’ Corps members holds from 15th to 18th March, 2016 after which they are to proceed on a 3-week terminal leave.
Management notes with serious concern that the statement, issued by one Matt Buhari Nzekanze, who claims to be Special Assistant to the DG on publicity, is already being shared among Corps members, especially through WhatsApp.
We wish to warn that the statement is not from the National Youth Service Corps and should, therefore, be disregarded.
For the avoidance of doubt, the said Matt Buhari Nzekanze is not a member of staff of the NYSC, but obviously a mischief maker who is out to create confusion among patriotic and law-abiding members of the service corps.
Management further wishes to inform Corps members of the 2015 Batch ‘A’ that the time-table for their winding-up and passing-out activities will be unveiled at the appropriate time through credible channels.
We, therefore, urge them to remain calm, go about their normal businesses, and await communication from Management on the issue of winding-up/passing-out.

ASUP Threatens Nationwide Strike, Gives 3 Weeks Ultimatum

Another strike in our polytechnics nation wide may be inevitable as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has given the federal government 3 weeks ultimatum to meet their demands or the union would embark on nationwide indefinite strike.
This was revealed by the president of the union, Comrade Usman Yusuf Dutse, while addressing journalists at the end of the 83rd quarterly meeting of the national executive council (NEC) of the union in Lafia.
Some of the issues include inadequate infrastructure in polytechnics across the country, inadequate funding and the need for the review of Polytechnics Acts which are outdated.
Other demands include implementation and payment of salary arrears of 2012 consolidated tertiary institutions salary structure (Contiss), 2010 Contiss agreement with the federal government which was mot captured in the 2016 budget as the committee set up to review it in 2014 was yet to submit its report.
He also stated that the government need to bridge the gap The ASUP chairman said government needs to address the issue of university/polytechnic dichotomy and ensure that polytechnic graduates are treated equally with their university counter-parts in terms of promotion and considerations for appointments in the civil service.
He finally called on the government to exclude tertiary institutions in the newly introduced Treasury Single Account (TSA) due to their peculiar nature; stating that the TSA platform is cumbersome.

JAMB Expresses Regret Over Technical Issues Ecountered In Some Exam Centres

The Coordinator of the National Headquarters Annex, Lagos of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Beatrice Okorie, has expressed regret over the technical issues encounter in some centres in the ongoing UTME.
According to her, most of the technical issues encountered were unforeseen circumstances and could happen anywhere and to anyone.
“We, indeed, regret the entire challenges because we mean well for the Nigerian-child. “We, however, must realize that these facilities are machines and can breakdown without warning. “Computers and generators are machines, just like cars.
“You can service your car today and take it out but on the way it can develop another fault. “We actually went round for accreditation and a routine check of the various centres and their facilities before accreditation for the examination, which commenced on February 27.”
She further stated that no candidate participating in the ongoing UTME would suffer any penalties as a result of such issues and mentioned that the board has rectified the issues in the affected centres.
She added that there will be an improvement in the conduct of the Computer Based Test by 2017.
