Nigeria University Education UNILORIN asks JAMB for more admission slots as facilities improve

TheUniversity of Ilorin(UNILORIN) has written a letter to theJoint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB-) seeking for an increase in its admission quota.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, ProfessorAbdulganiyu Ambali, said this to newsmen as a press briefing on preparations for the institution’s 40th anniversary.

Ambali the institution wrote to JAMB through theNational Universities Commission(NUC) after its admission quota for the 2015/2016 session was reduced.

He said the university has the capacity to admit more students than it is allocated because of its improved facilities and programmes.

"The university has more facilities, more academic programmes, more good lecturers, more patronage in terms of candidates, and other needed infrastructures that can accommodate more students," Ambali said.
The Vice Chancellor noted that UNILORIN's stable academic calendar has proven attractive to prospective undergraduates.

He also revealed that only 7, 800 candidates out of the65,000 seeking admissioninto UNILORIN will be admitted for the 2015/2016 academic session.

The figure is muchlower than the 12,650, including 80 international studentsthat were admitted in the last year.

It also means that as many as57,200 candidates will be disappointed.

University Education 1m Nigerian students won’t get admitted this year — FUTMinna VC

Only a third of students seeking admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria will get admitted for the 2015/2015 academic session because of lack of spaces.
The Vice ChancellorFederal University of Technology, Minna(FUTMinna), ProfessorMusbau Adewumi Akanji, said this while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the university and Training Guide International (TGI).

Akanji said the combined carrying capacity of Nigerian universities is not enough to reach all prospective students.

“This year about 1.4 million Nigerian children applied for admission and the admission capacityof all the universities in the country is less than 500,000 meaning that about one million would not be able to achieve their desire of entry into the university this year,"Akanji said.

UNILORIN To Admit 7, 800 Students Out Of 65,000 Candidates For 2015/2016 Session

Latest report reaching us has it that only 7,800 out of 65,000 students that sat for the post- UTME examinations of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) would be admitted for the 2015/2016 academic session.
The vice chancellor of the university, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali made this known during a press conference heralding the 40th anniversary of the institution in Ilorin yesterday.
He said, though many candidates had preference for UNlLORIN because of its stable academic calendar, the carrying capacity of the institution is just 7,800. The VC however said the institution has the required infrastructure and human resources to accommodate more candidates.
He said the authorities of the institution had complained to the necessary quarters on the need to increase the university’s carrying capacity.
“The university has more facilities, more academic programmes, more good lecturers, more patronage in terms of candidates, and other needed infrastructures that can accommodate more students,” he stated.
While speaking on the reason for conducting UTME for a total number of 65,000 candidates, knowing fully well that the university will only take 7,800, the vice chancellor said that the reason was borne out of the quest to have the best students admitted out of the good lot.

Ambali, who said that academic stability is the highest selling point of the university, added that the institution had been able to set sustainable standard “that is now envy of all universities in the country”.
He said the university is lucky to have academic staff who engage only in constructive unionism.
