TheUniversity of Ilorin(UNILORIN) has written a letter to theJoint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB-) seeking for an increase in its admission quota.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, ProfessorAbdulganiyu Ambali, said this to newsmen as a press briefing on preparations for the institution’s 40th anniversary.
Ambali the institution wrote to JAMB through theNational Universities Commission(NUC) after its admission quota for the 2015/2016 session was reduced.
He said the university has the capacity to admit more students than it is allocated because of its improved facilities and programmes.
"The university has more facilities, more academic programmes, more good lecturers, more patronage in terms of candidates, and other needed infrastructures that can accommodate more students," Ambali said.
The Vice Chancellor noted that UNILORIN's stable academic calendar has proven attractive to prospective undergraduates.
He also revealed that only 7, 800 candidates out of the65,000 seeking admissioninto UNILORIN will be admitted for the 2015/2016 academic session.
The figure is muchlower than the 12,650, including 80 international studentsthat were admitted in the last year.
It also means that as many as57,200 candidates will be disappointed.
