Abuja – Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is to give three million naira each to empower eligible youths under the Youth Initiative Empowerment Development Programme (YIEDP), the Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, has said. Emefiele made the disclosure at the launch of YIEDP in Abuja on Tuesday. He said “the programme is open to youths who are either serving in the National Youth Service Corps or those who have not spent more than five years post NYSC service. “Credit line will be made available up to three million naira to each eligible youth, thereby fixing the problem of inadequate finance often encountered by business start-ups. “And receptions that utilise the funds properly can be encouraged to migrate to the other CBN interventions wherein they access more funds.’’ Emefiele said that N210 billion had been set aside for the programme and added that the collateral for accessing the fund was simple. “It will include assets, such as academic and NYSC certificates, third party guarantees and other movable assets. “This programmes will be an equal opportunity programme across gender and geo-political zones and we have developed a robust operational framework to deliver a bias-free per-qualification and selection process.’’ He said that CBN was targeting 10,000 youths with the aim of creating one million direct jobs in productive activities within the next four years. According to Emefiele, the National Bureau of Statistics says that there are over 36.3million youths in Nigeria’s labour force out of whom 13.6 million are either underemployed or unemployed. He noted that many talented youth in the country were constrained by seed funding which was very scarce. He explained that to address the situation, CBN in collaboration with NYSC came up with the initiative. The CBN governor commended the efforts of the Director-General of NYSC, Brig Gen Johnson Olawumi, and Mr Akinsola Akinfemiwa, Chairman, Heritage Bank for their commitment to the programme. Also, the NYSC director-general said YIEDP focused at providing world class training and start- up capital to corps members who had indicated interest in Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship (SAED). Olawunmi said the initiative was designed to complement the other interventions in funding corps members’ proposals under the NYSC SAED programme. He explained that since the inception of SAED, the NYSC scheme had trained over 500,000 ex-corps members in various agro-based skills but not all were empowered due to inadequate funds. He noted that under the new concept of YIEDP which had liberalised the lending terms, corps member entrepreneurs would enjoy unhindered access to start-up funds. He explained that corps members who intended to access the fund were expected to undergo a world class entrepreneurship development training facilitated by CBN and heritage bank. “ They will submit electronically, a bankable business plans as well as provide a reliable guarantor and their NYSC certificates will serve as collateral for beneficiaries,’’ he said. He admonished serving corps members to take advantage of the opportunity by coming up with creative ideas and bankable business plans which could make them access the fund. In his remark, the Chairman of Heritage Bank Akinfemiwa, said the major partners to the programme were NYSC members and urged them to strive to be employers of labour and not job seekers. Akinfemiwa also urged the youths to generate good ideas as it was the only way to ensure that the money that would be given to them was properly used.

After the National and State House of Assembly rerun elections in Rivers state which was trailed by series of killings and attacks yesterday, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who partook in the polling exercise were all worn out.

The Corps members were seen sleeping both on the floor and benches last night at a secure location as citizens await the final collated results by INEC.

Unconfirmed reports have it that some of the corpers were harmed due to electoral violence at their polling units.

A Nigerian East Carolina University student, Adedayo Adeniyi was verbally and physically assaulted by a white man at a Donald Trump rally last Wednesday after he was targeted and thrown out for being black, New York Daily News, reports
20-year-old Adeniyi decided to attend the Donald Trump rally in Fayetteville, N.C. not as a protester or demonstrator, but out of curiosity.
"I was there just to watch and experience the surreal moment of someone like Trump running for president and speaking to thousands of people," he told the Daily News.
Without saying a single word during the entire event, Adeniyi was randomly targeted and thrown out of the event by police as seen and heard on video he recorded.
"At first I refused to leave because it was all just a product of being black at a Trump rally. Basically in that environment I'm guilty by association. But common sense told me to just listen to the cops and move along," Adeniyi recalled.
On his cellphone video Adeniyi, being told he has to leave, can be heard saying:
"Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. That's not me, that's them. I don't even know them. What? I don't even know them. I don't even know them"
The visibly shocked student reluctantly complied and was escorted down the stairs by the police.
"What happened next caused me to lose faith in America. The man at the end of the video is a moment I'll never forget," said Adeniyi.
One of Trump's supporters, a middle aged white man, looked him directly in the face and said, "F--k you, F--k you," right before slapping Adeniyi in the face.
"The hate in his eyes. The words. The hate in those words. The slap. It was disgusting and sad. At that moment I believed that America will stay and continue to be a hateful and bigoted country,"
"These are presidential candidate rallies. Not a KKK rally. The fact that I experienced hate at a candidate rally tells you everything you need to know about Donald Trump and the people that support him. People will act more hateful and racist in environments that they feel not only encouraged to do it, but accept it as normal," he added.
Meanwhile the man who assaulted Adeniyi has been identifiedas Jason Wilton Wetzel (pictured is his mugshot and a screenshot from the video recorded by Adeniyi) seems to have shown some remorse.
"I can’t believe I did that. It was me, but I’m not a hateful man. I just got caught up. When I saw the video all over the news of me doing that to that young man, I was just disgusted with myself." said Mr Wetzel, who confirmed to the Daily News that it was him seen physically and verbally assaulting a Adeniyi.
Investigators said Wetzel, 70, moved to North Carolina from Georgia when his job with the military was transferred to Fort Bragg. According to detectives, Wetzel is accused of voting in both states in the 2012 primary and general elections as well as voting in both states in 2014.
"I have no criminal background," Adeniyi told The News. "This man does. So please explain to me who the real thug is. A young black man who is a junior in college majoring in medical laboratory science and who also happens to hold many leadership positions there? Or is it this man, with a criminal background who attacked me for no reason?"
Reached by phone Monday, Wetzel claimed that it was indeed him on the video, but said:
"I’m not a racist or hateful, I just got caught up. I can’t explain it. I want to apologize to this young man and maybe take him out to dinner or something."

JAMB grants opportunity for candidates who missed UTME to retake exam BySylvester Ugwuanyion March 19, 2016

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has finally agreed to reschedule examination for candidates who missed the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, due to the relocation of centres by the board.
Following the board’s relocation of 59,000 candidates in 15 states because of problems in some of the centres which cost them the exam, the affected candidates had carried out series of protests in some states of the country against the examination body.
But speaking at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the Registrar of the board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde assured that candidates who had system failure during the examination would retake it, if the board finds their complaint to be genuine.
According to him, “We relocated candidates where the board had challenges. The board is looking at some of the issues raised during the examination, but most of the excuses raised by candidates are flimsy.
“We relocated about 59, 000 candidates due to the problems in various centres which vary from town to town. There are about 59,000 of them spread across 15 states of the federation.
“Those that were relocated never suffered any setback or inconvenience. For all these two sets of people, I want to apologise sincerely for what happened to them, but we are going to put on a redress for those whose relocation affected them in missing their examination.”
Stressing that the new development does not affect candidates who missed the examination deliberately or failed in the examination, he said among the 1,546,633 candidates who sat for the 2016 UTME, 145, 704 had issues of multiple results which have been resolved by the board.
Prof. Ojerinde added that 23, 577 candidates were absent on the day of the examination.
His words, “Let me use this opportunity to offer explanation on the issue of the much-publicized two results. The process of our marking involves transformation and other qualitative programming. In the process of these configurations, we had a little challenge which we quickly corrected and ensured that this never happened in subsequent results. This challenge was only associated with the candidates that sat for this examination on Saturday, 27, and some candidates of Monday, 29 February, 2016.”
Ojerinde continued that the board found out that some of the over 500 centres used for the CBT were compromised by the operators, revealing that one of its centres in Uromi, Edo State was invaded by mercenaries during the examination.
While accusing the education consultants for mobilizing candidates to protest against the conduct of the examination by the board, he maintained that the quality of the centres used for UTME would not be compromised.
“In our quest to have adequate and effective centres for the exercise, we approved over 500 centres, but unfortunately, some of the centre operators were not sincere in proving us with the true position of their facilities.
“They hired equipment during the period of accreditation and other necessary apparatus and on the examination day, they were found wanting. This led to relocation or rescheduling of candidates from some of them to more suitable centres.”
Ojerinde, who insisted that Nigeria was ready for Computer-Based Test, CBT examination, explained that reverting to the Paper and Pencil Test, PPT, as directed by the House of Representatives would amount to lack of progress. He assured that the CBT would be improved upon.
“Even the physically challenged are taking the CBT examination. One of the blind candidates scored 286, so why should others complain?
“Going back to the Paper and Pencil Test will amount to taking one step forward and two steps backwards,” the JAMB boss stated.

Female Student Abducted in Lagos while going For UTME (Photo)

A 15-year-old girl, Rita Clement who was to sit for the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos State has been kidnapped by unidentified persons.
liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine gathered that Rita was abducted by Gunmen while on her way to sit for the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
It was learnt that Clement, who lived with her relatives on Gboyega Kilo Street in the Ojodu Berger area, and had UTME registration number 65061660GJ, was to sit for the exam at 6.30am on that faithful day.
Our correspondent, who obtained Clement’s examination printout, gathered that the examination centre was the West African Examination Council, International office on Plot B, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Lagos.

It was learnt that the teenager, who sat for her Senior Secondary Certificate Examination last year, had left home around 5.30am for Agidingbi.
Our correspondent gathered that at about 5pm, Clement sent a text message to her mother’s mobile phone, raising the alarm that she had been abducted and she did not know the location where she was taken to.
The matter was said to have been reported at the Ojodu Police Division on Friday and had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja.
In the text message which Clement’s uncle, Emeka Orazulike, showed our correspondent, the teenager wrote that the abductors had seized her phone since morning and she only managed to write a text through someone’s assistance.
She wrote, “Mummy, they took my phone and beat me up inside the bus. Mummy, I don’t know where they took me to. They made me sleep and said they will kill me if I ran.
“Someone gave me my phone, saying I must return it before they came back. Mummy, please save me, please.”
The uncle, who worked as a pharmacist, said it was through the text message that the family got to know that Clement was not missing, but abducted.
He said, “Rita (Clement) finished from a college on Aina Street in the Ojodu area. She just concluded her SSCE; we then enrolled her for the UTME. Her father lives in Enugu.
“The examinations board gave her that Thursday, by 6.30am, to sit for her exam. She was to sit at a centre in the Agidingbi area. On that day, as I was preparing for work around 6am, she met and told me that she was set to leave for the venue.
“I gave her N1,000 when she told me the centre was at Agidingbi. She would use only N100 for transport. I then left for work.
“As I was coming back around 6.30pm, her mother called that she forwarded a message to my telephone. I then checked my phone and saw the scary message. I first went to the Area F Command, Ikeja, and was about making a statement when the Area Commander directed me to the Ojodu Police Division.
“We reported the matter on Friday at Ojodu, and the police there radioed other stations.”
Orazulike added that when they called the girl’s phone, it rang out on Thursday, adding that it had been switched off by Friday.
“She did sit for that exam. The abductors might have whisked her away in the bus she boarded on that morning.
“She was used to going out. When she wrote her WAEC, her centre was at Giwa Oke Aro, Agbado. She went there with her friends.
“That was why when she mentioned that she was going to Agidingbi for the UTME, I did not nurse any fear because it was just two bus stops from our area. If we knew that anything would happen, I would have taken her there myself,” he added.
Our correspondent learnt that the Divisional Police Officer in Ojodu took the family members to the SARS office, Ikeja, on Monday and the SARS commander assured them that he would detail his men to rescue the girl.
However, the family had yet to hear from the police as of Wednesday.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, had yet to reply to a text message sent to her phone on the abduction.

KSP Closed Down Following Students' Protest

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic (KSP) has closed down the school temporarily following protest by students of the institution.
According to report, the students of the institution following the death of one of their colleagues who was said to have been knocked down by a motorcyclist took to the streets.
It was learnt that the protest started when the students got the hint that a motorcyclist stabbed and killed a student of the polytechnic during an argument over fare.
The students were said to have blocked the highway and set ablaze a Dangote truck after beating the driver to stupor.
It took the intervention of the Nigerian Police Force to arrest a further break down of Law and order.

Interested Applicants are advised to go to the Nigeria Police Academy’s Website: www.polac.edu.ng in order to obtain or generate Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) Code. The RRR code obtained can be used to make payment of N3,000.00 through any commercial Bank Branch in Nigeria. Applicants must, in addition, apply through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board as well as sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Candidates need not select the Police Academy as a university of choice in the JAMB form. However, only candidates who obtained the minimum UTME scores which is to be determined by JAMB and purchased the Academy online application form; will be eligible to sit for the Nigeria Police Academy Selection Examination.
Sale of online application forms for admission into the 4thRegular Course of degree the programme of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, will commence on Wednesday 16thMarch, 2016 and end on Friday the 17th June, 2016.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applications are to be submitted online. On submission of the applications, candidates are required to download Acknowledgement Form. Candidates who obtained the minimum national cut-off marks or above, will be enabled to download and print their examination cards.

NPA Entrance Examination Date, Conditions and Requirements.
The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil Selection Examination, may be Computer Based Test (CBT) or Pencil and Paper. The examination shall comprise of a General Paper (Section A) which is compulsory for all candidates. It will cover areas such as general knowledge and current affairs, English Language and Mathematics. Other sections are to be selected according candidate’s Faculty of choice. It will be conducted on Saturday the 16th July, 2016. Only candidates who obtained the minimum national cut-off marks or above will be eligible to sit for the Nigeria Police Academy Selection Examination at 12 designated Centres.

The list of Centres is in the Academy Website. Eligible candidates are to bring along to the examination venue their Acknowledgement Form, Examination Card, JAMB Result Slip and two Postcard size photographs (3.5×5 Inches) which should show only from the chest upwards.
At the back of each of the two Postcard size photographs, the candidates must write their name, State of origin, examination centre and signature.
Only candidates who are successful in the Selection Examination will be invited for the Nigeria Police Academy Selection Board Interview. The list of successful candidates will be published on our website and in some national newspaper

Candidates admitted into the Nigeria Police Academy degree course will undergo a combined police and academic training for a minimum period of five years leading to Bachelor’s degrees and commission in the Nigeria Police Force as Assistant Superintendents of Police

UNIOSUN Students Protest ‘No Tuition, No Exam’ Order

Osun State University, UNIOSUN students protested ‘No Tuition, No Exam’ policy. We could not pay because the state government owed our parents salaries.

Students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), College of Education, Ipetu Ijesa Campus yesterday protested against the institution’s decision not to allow students defaulting in the payment of their school fees to participate in the semester examination which commenced on Monday.

It was reported, that some of the students were prevented from writing some courses on Monday but the students rejected the policy on Tuesday and interrupted the examination.

Some of the students told our correspondent that they could not pay because the state government owed their parents salaries. They said the schools used to allow them to take exams and after that, students would pay but it was surprising that the policy has changed when the state government had stopped paying salaries.

It was gathered that the management invited policemen to come and quell the protest and this nearly resulted into a fracas.

Ejigbo Community Protest Renaming of UNIOSUN Campus

The Asiwaju of Ejigbo, Chief Atilade Adebowale, who addressed the lawmakers led by their Speaker, Najeem Salaam, said the renaming of the university was a slap in the face of the community.
“Are we saying there is nobody in Ejigbo who can be honoured with the university? We say no to this. We have sons and daughters of impeccable character, who are qualified to be honoured. We do not have any issue or grudge against Ede town or Senator Isiaka Adeleke, but the governor must do the right thing.”
He said the people of Ejigbo embarked on the peaceful protest because they were peace-loving people, but warned that they should not be treated as second-class citizens

Breaking News: Candidates, Parents Demand Cancellation of 2016 UTME

Scores of candidates who participated in the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and their parents on Tuesday stormed the Lagos State Governor’s Office in Alausa, Ikeja, and the state Assembly complex to protest against alleged manipulation of the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine gathered that the aggrieved protesters demanded the cancellation of the exams and the removal of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde.
The protesters, who faulted the conduct of the examination, described the exercise as a “big sham.”
The examination, conducted by JAMB, they alleged, was fraught with irregularities.
The examination, which started on February 27, will end on March 19.

While some of the candidates alleged that the board deliberately lowered their scores, some claimed that it arbitrarily awarded marks to many candidates.
The protesters, led by a group under the aegis of Concerned Parents and Education Stakeholders, displayed placards with inscriptions such as, ‘All we are saying give us our mark’, ‘Dibu must go; the only stumbling block in education progress’, ‘The Joint Admission and Manipulation Board, give us our real results’, and ‘The professor of test and management has outlived his usefulness’, among others.
The protesters, who occupied the gate of the Lagos State House of Assembly complex for many hours, said JAMB and its registrar had “lost focus on how to conduct a successful Computer-Based Test in the 21st century.
A candidate, Maryam Animashaun, who expressed disappointment with the conduct of the examination, claimed that she received three different results from JAMB.
Animashaun, who sat for the examination at the College of Education, Oro, Kwara State, said, “I am confused. I do not know what to do now. The first alert I received on the telephone from the board with regard to the examination showed that I scored 218. The second alert read 186, while the third one read 286.
“The surprising thing now is that I cannot print any of the results. On the website, the board claimed that I did not sit for the examination. Meanwhile, I sat for English, Government, Economics and Literature-in-English.”
Another candidate, Kalasuwe Adeola, who claimed she scored 220, said she obtained the same score in 2015.
She said, “I am sure JAMB did not mark this year’s UTME. If it did, why did they issue me the same result I obtained last year? In my printed result for this year, it was written 2015/2016 instead of 2016/2017. I sat for this year’s examination at the Bachel Model College, Lagos, on March 9. Unlike other candidates, I did not have any issue with my system during the examination.”
The National President of the Association of Tutorial Schools in Nigeria, Mr. Shodunke Olutodotun, lamented that over 10,000 candidates missed the UTME, while others had their marks deducted due to irregularities by JAMB.
“This year’s UTME will soon be concluded. We have a man called Prof. Dibu Ojerinde. This man has outlived his usefulness in JAMB. He seems to be more powerful than the country’s president.
“The protesters are the victims; their destinies are being finished by Dibu. Most of the protesters that had their exam in Delta State had the exam in a shrine. A lot of them got results before they sat for the exam.
“We are appealing to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to send signal to Abuja to stop UTME. If they don’t do that, we will go to Abuja.
“How will someone sit for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and the next thing he sees are Economics, Commerce and Government?”
Describing the exam as a fraud, a parent, Mr. Bunmi Elujula, urged the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to look into the complaints of the candidates urgently.
Apart from awarding arbitrary scores to candidates, Elujula said many candidates had problems with their systems.
He said, “Many candidates were allocated between 40 and 60 additional marks. What are the criteria for this arbitrariness? The strange thing is that JAMB started the CBT two years ago, why is this year’s exam a big flop? I have not seen candidates and parents complain this way about the exam in the past. I plead with the authorities to look into their grievances.”
