Azuka Obiejogo HND graduate forges Okonjo-Iweala’s recommendation letter for EFCC job

A job seeker,Azuka Obiejogo, has been arrested by theEconomic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) for forging a recommendation letter in the name of the Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr.Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
EFCC spokesman,Wilson Uwujaren, said Obiejogo, who holds a Higher National Diploma from a polytechnic in Anambra State, allegedly applied for jobs at the EFCC and other government agencies using the forged recommendation letter.
“Obiejogo is a Higher National Diploma holder. He forged a reference letter from the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and along with his curriculum vitae, requested employment in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company," Uwajaren said.
Obiejogo was arraigned before Justice Muawiyah Idris of an Abuja High Court on six counts bordering on forgery.
His charge read:
“That you, Azuka Obiejogo, on or about August 11, 2014, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, intentionally induced the Tertiary Education Trust Fund to employ you as Account Officer II by presenting a forged reference letter titled, ‘Reference on Obiejogo Raymond Azuka’, purportedly made by the Honourable Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, recommending you as a worthy officer fit for employment and which act caused harm to the reputation of TETFUND.”
According to the EFCC, the offence was contrary to Section 320(b) and punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code, CAP 532, Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1990.
The accused pled not guilty and Justice Idris adjourned the case till June 2, 2015 for hearing of the bail application and commencement of trial.
Justice Idris ordered that Obiejogo be remanded in Kuje Prisons.

Educated Criminal Police nab 27-yr-old graduate for car snatching after gun battle

Enugu Police have arrested a 27-year-old computer science and information technology graduate,Anidi Reginald, for belonging to a car snatching gang.
Anidi, who allegedly graduated from a university in Cotonou in 2013, was arrested around 11am on Saturday after a gun battle between his gang and police officers from the Ogui Division at Ozalla, in Nkanu West LGA of the state.
The gang members were fleeing after they snatched a Honda Pilot car, with registration numberAAA 598 CH, from the owner at gunpoint,Punchreports.
They headed towards Enugu metropolis but were chased down by policemen who had been alerted by the victim.
A gun battle ensued at Presidential Road area after which Anidi was arrested while other gang members escaped.
The Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command,Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident.
He said an automatic pump action gun, one cut-to-size English-made single barrel gun, and live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.
The police spokesman said Anidi, who blamed his involvement in crime on employment and peer influence, is aiding investigations into the activities of the gang.
Police say the car has been returned to the owner.

OAU Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA) has awarded N3.5m worth scholarships to fifty-nine students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) after its annual reunion convention.

Fourteen pupils, aged between 12 and 15, were arrested last Thursday at Oguola Secondary School at Saint Saviour, Ikpoba Okha LGA of Edo state, for their alleged involvement in cultism related activities.

Police in Edo state have arrested 14 teenage Junior Secondary School pupils for their alleged involvement in cultism related activities.

A team of police had stormed the school and effected the arrest, following complaints by some parents.

The Kwara State University (KWASU) has commenced Undergraduate admissions processing for 2015/2016 academic session.
From the information reaching us, we are glad to inform all the candidates whose choice of institution in the 2015 UTME/DE was Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete; and all those interested in admission intoKWASUbut have not made it their choice to the Post-UTME Screening/Test for 2015/2016 admission exercise.

ASUU protests members’ kidnaps in Ekiti

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Ekiti State University chapter, on Monday, in Ado Ekiti, protested against the kidnap of their members and issued a five day ultimatum to government to secure their release.

Failure to do this, the union said, it would not hesitate to embark on an indefinite strike till situation returned to normal.

Describing the case as frightening and disturbing, the union lamented that five of their members had been kidnapped at various locations in the state within two weeks, of which only two had been released to look for N210 million ransom for the release of other three hostages.

A lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr. Femi Omisore; Dr. Mrs. Folasade Alade of EKSU and Dr. Mrs. Kikelomo Adegun, wife of the former Chief Medical Director of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti are still in the kidnappers den.

The protesting lecturers carried placards with various inscriptions like “ASUU say no to kidnapping,” “Kidnapping is a crime against humanity,” “ASUU demands unconditional release of members,” and “Ensure safety of lives and property,” among others.

They converged on Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, before moving to the Ewi’s Palace, where they were addressed by Oba Rufus Adejugbe and members of his Council.
ASUU members were led by EKSU Chairman, Prof. Olufayo Olu-Olu and Chairman OAU Chapter,  Dr. Caleb Aborisade, and his counterpart from Federal University of Technology, Akure, Dr. Bola Oniya.

They later moved to the Governor’s office in Ado Ekiti where they were received by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola.

ASUU expressed concerns about kidnappers making them and health workers in the state targets.

It urged the government to do all within its powers to rescue the state from sliding into anarchy.

Olu-Olu said, “This is the same way Boko Haram started in the North. It started like a child’s play, but today, a visit to the North would show the level of callousness and damage the sects have done to the system. On this premise, the government must act fast and stop this nonsense.

“These kidnappers erroneously thought our members are rich but they never knew that we have not received salaries in EKSU since March, 2015. Three of our members are still being held and they were demanding N70 million each, where do you expect us to get such money?

“Our fear is that, immediately these people realise that we are not rich, they may decide to waste them in the bush and this is our fear.

“We are pleading with Governor Fayose to act fast because it seems the police and the DSS have no clue on how the victims can be saved.”

Aborisade hinted that ASUU in OAU may relocate its Secretariat to Ado Ekiti from Friday if their colleagues had yet to be saved from the kidnappers’ den.

Five Men To Trek To Mecca For Buhari

A group of five married men have vowed to trek from Nigeria to Saudi Arabia to celebrate the victory of the president-elect, General Muhammadu in the March 28 presidential poll.

Speaking with newsmen in Bauchi on Sunday, the men; viz. Mohammed Inuwa, 45, Dahiru Aminu, 33, Abdullahi Usseini, 45, Abubakar Danjuma, 45, and Kabiru Saleh , 35, explained that their decision to embark on the foot journey was fueled by the undying love they have for the incoming leader.

Speaking on their behalf, Mohammed Inuwa said, “He has tried to be president for 12 years but Allah did not make it to be possible. We believe he always won because he had the support of the majority. This time around Allah has given him the power and so we decided to trek to
Mecca by road to register our unflinching support to General Buhari”


They said they were ready to give their lives for the mission but, “we pray Allah will protect and guide us because we are committed to show our appreciation to General Buhari.”

They disclosed that they have consulted widely with families and friends and have made adequate preparations for the journey which they estimated will take them at least, three months and will see them transverse countries of Chad, Sudan before reaching their destination in Mecca.

The men said that they hope to begin their trek on May 30, a day after the swearing-in of the incoming administration and asked Nigerians to pray for them to succeed in their mission.

Nigeria must take the remunerations, motivation and welfare of teachers seriously in order to reposition Nigerian education according to Hajiya Fatima Abdulrahman, the President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools.

In an interview withDaily Trust, Abdulrahman said the main problems of teachers in Nigeria are inadequate training and facilities, poor welfare and lack of motivation.
"The major problems of teachers in the country are lack of training and retraining of teachers, over crowdedness in our classrooms, dilapidated structures and lack of motivation to teachers for high productivity," she said.
"I mean welfare of teachers, remunerations, their moral is very low in the society and to boost the morale of teachers for high productivity, their welfare should be prioritised."
According to the educationist, who has taught for 30 years, "some states teachers’ salaries are not paid for months," a situation that should not occur if teachers must produce their best.
"You have to motivate teachers for high productivity."
She called on the incoming government to take the remunerations, motivation and welfare of teachers seriously to move education forward.
In 2013, Abdulrahman, who is the current Principal ofGSS, Kuje, emerged the first female National President of ANCOPSS, an association that consists of principals of secondary schools and junior secondary schools in Nigeria.

21 youths arrested with 122 condoms at Ibadan all-male party

Police in Oyo state have arrested twenty-one youths under the age of twenty five for allegedly belonging to a 'gay cult'.
According to reports, the youths were taken into custody last week after police found them at an all-male 'party' with 122 condoms in their possession.
Police say the youths were holding an initiation into their group at the time of their arrest but have not charged them formally, despite detaining them at an Ibadan police station,The Nationreports.
It was reported that the police, who say they acted on a tip, believed the suspects are gay cultists because they were in possession of such a large number of condoms with no female present.
A unnamed spokesperson ofThe Initiative for Equal Rights(TIER) toldThe Nationthat they got involved in the case after a phone call on May 10.

"At the point of arrest, the young men were physically assaulted and treated in a manner unbecoming of any legal process: they were photographed in their underwear, made to write statements under duress and locked up in an overcrowded cell," the spokesperson said.

The report said a lawyer from theInternational Center for Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights(INCRESE) eventually facilitated 'bail' for the suspects.
The alleged gay members reportedly paid various sums for their release and have decided not to seek redress for their treatment over fears that they might be exposed and branded gay publicly.

Lagos State NUT criticized the use of Computer-Based Test,

CBT, in secondary schools examinations.
The Lagos State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, says the introduction of the Computer-Based Test, CBT, in secondary schools examinations may not achieve the desired result. The state NUT Chairman, Mr Segun Raheem, made the assertion in Lagos yesterday. Raheem said the situation might be so because most of the students were not adequately prepared for CBT.
He said the students were not prepared due to the non-availability of Information Communication Technology, ICT, facilities and human resources. He noted that computer science which, hitherto, was an optional subject and suddenly made a compulsory subject would leave some students unprepared for CBT. “Computer Science has just been introduced to secondary schools as a compulsory subject which is coming rather late.
“However, only a few Lagos schools have computer science teachers and some schools gave temporary appointment to computer science teachers. “Others got the teachers through the efforts of the Parents’ Forum (PF),” he said. The unionist noted that most of the secondary schools in the state had a desktop or a laptop which they used mostly for administrative work.
He, however, said that only few schools had an ICT laboratory that was fully equipped with internet facilities, noting that “With the present situation, in my own view, I doubt if the use of CBT is result-oriented for students in secondary schools in the state.” “Except if crash programmes on computer studies and practice is introduced in schools, which must allow each student to have a free practice with computer, CBT will not achieve the desired aim. Authorities of theBayero University, Kano, BUKhave released some important notice to graduands of 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 academic session as regards collection of academic gown, certificate and some other updates as regards the institution’s forthcoming 31st convocation ceremonies.
BUK graduands are to take note of these:
*.Postgraduate students are to pay the sum of N6,000 only, being cost of hire of Academic Gown, purchase of Order of Proceedings and collection of certificate. While Undergraduate Students are to pay of N4,000 only, being cost of the same items. Diploma students are to pay the sum of N1000, being cost of Order of Proceedings only.
*.All payments are to be made at the cash office and Academic Gowns are to be collected from the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR) as from Thursday, 14thMay, 2015, (upon evidence of payment) while the Book of Order of Proceedings will be issued in the Directorate upon return of the Academic Gown.
*.Certificates will be issued at the Registrar’s Office upon evidence of payment of N3,000 (Postgraduate), and N2,000 (Undergraduate), provision of Clearance Form, ID Card, and original statement of Result, on the day the Candidate has convocated.
*.Please ensure that you present yourself for the collection of Certificate on the stipulated date stated above i.e. when students of your Faculty are suppose to graduate, while Saturday, 23rd May, 2015, will be reserved for Postgraduate students only.
*.Please ensure that you go to the Registrar’s Office for the Collection of your Certificate on the stipulated date you are suppose to convocate. Collection of Certificate after Convocation will attract a surcharge of N2,000. Saturday 23 May, 2015, is reserved for Postgraduate students only.

Nigerian Student Breaks A 50-Year Record In Japan

Nigerian student Ufot Ekong has broken a 50 year record in Japan after graduating with a first class degree and best overall student from Tokai University in Tokyo Japan.


The talented student graduated from the university with a first class degree in robotics and electrical engineering.

This is the first time a Nigerian could achieve such success since 1965, Nigerian Bulletin reports.

It was also gathered that Ufot won Japanese language award for foreigners and solved a mathematical equation that could not be solved 30 years ago in his first semester.


Asides from studying hard and paying himself for the education, Ufot works at Nissan. He has already made two patented products. Recently, he developed an electric car that could go as fast as 128 kilometers per hour.


Asides from being a Saxophone master, the young Nigerian speaks English, Yoruba, French, Japanese.

Undoubtedly, bright future is waiting for Ufot Ekong, who made the nation proud.

Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro 19-yr-old arrested for committing fraud with fake Bola Tinubu Facebook account

Emmanuel Otu, a 19-year-old Mechanical Engineering student atthe Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, was arreted for allegedly creating a Facebook profile of the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for fraudulent activities.
    


A student of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, Emmanuel Otu, has been arrested by officer of the Lagos Command of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), for internet fraud.

The 19-year-old Mechanical Engineering student allegedly created a Facebook profile of the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for fraudulent activities.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, Otu, is a specialist in internet fraud and has at several times posed as different prominent personalities to defraud people on the popular social media platform.

Aderanti said the teenager through the Facebook page claimed to be arranging jobs and contracts with some of the oil majors operating in Nigeria, fooling his would be victims.

He has succeeded in extorting money from members of the public before his arrest on the 10th of May at his hostel in the polytechnic.

Good News Lagos State Government to award bursary to 198 students

The Lagos State Government has approved the payment of bursary to 198 students

The Lagos State Government on Friday approved the payment of bursary awards to 198 indigenous students at the Nigerian Law School and the Maritime Academy, Oron, Akwa Ibom.
A statement by the Director, Lagos State Scholarship Board, Mrs. Yetunde Jegede, gave the figure of the beneficiaries and the amount involved in Lagos.
Jegede said 192 Nigerian Law School students and six Maritime Academy, Oron, would receive N200,000 each.

She urged the beneficiaries to come to the board’s office for documentation and to collect their award.

Bayero University N200 million released to varsity for acquisition of nuclear research material

at a press conference for the forthcoming convocation ceremony of the University.

He added that a Bio Technology Research Centre has already been established under which the Nuclear Research Program will be conducted.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the University has already sent some lecturers abroad to obtain a PHD in Bio Technology and return to take charge of the centre.

The VC also said that 18 billion naira grant was secured from the World Bank to fund the University’s Centre for Dry Land Agriculture.
