Female Ogun Poly Student Found Dead In Shrine (Photo)

A female student of Science Laboratory Technology department at the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, hails from Ekiti state who was said to be missing some days ago have been found in a shrine with her vital organs missing.
liveschoolnews.com .ng grapevine learnt that the decomposing remains of 21 year old Morenikeji Owolabi were discovered in a shrine at the rustic Eposo village, Ishara, in Remo North Local Government Council of Ogun state.
Her dismembered and decomposing remains were found littered at a Shrine by policemen.
The girl was allegedly lured to the shrine by a herbalist, Femi Awise, where she was found dead.
Awise, a native of Isara and prime suspect, is said to be on the run but five persons suspected to be working for him, including a cyclist who conveyed the girl to the shrine and an apprentice of Awise, have been arrested.
The suspects are Adeyemi Ademolu (the cyclist), Omolaso Taiwo (Awise’s apprentice), Lateef Ali, Akinyemi Dare, and Sokoya Wasiu.
According to Ademolu, the victim spoke with Awise twice seeking information about the direction while being conveyed to the shrine.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Valentine Ntomchukwu, led some reporters to the shrine tucked inside a forest.
He said investigation had started to ascertain how the victim was killed.
Although the decaying legs of the girl exhumed from a shallow grave few meters away from the shrine were discovered but liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine gathered that investigation continues to trace where her head, breasts and private part were kept.
The cubicle – size shrine made of corrugated iron sheets, was strewn with scary fetish objects, bottles of palm oil knives, plates and a pot filled with boiled human flesh and which had also began to emit foul odour.
Ntomchukwu said, “What we want to tell the public is that they should monitor the movement of their wards and children, especially when they are left to be in school and other public institutions.
“They should always keep watch over their children, call them regularly and where they don’t see them, they should quickly report to the police.
“If we had received this report on time, we would have been able to trace this lady. By the time we got the report, we now started scouting for information, only to arrest the okada man (motorcyclist) that brought her to the Shrine.
“It was from that okada man that we were able to know that she was taken to this area and by discreet investigation, we were able to discover this shrine.
“We don’t know how long this shrine has been in existence but we assure you that this particular nefarious activity would be put to an end.”
The Local Government chairman, Femi Soyemi, who was shocked and appalled by the horrible discovery said he never believe such savagery could exist in his domain.
Soyemi said, “I was shocked because I never expected this kind of horrible and brutal thing exists here.”

shocking-----Governor Wike sacks 344 Lecturers of the state owned Polytechnic

Governor Nyesom Wike of River state as with immediate effect ordered the sack of the 344 newly recruited staff of the state Polytechnic, Bori.

The sacked Lecturers were those the former Governor Rotimi Amaechi hurriedly employed at the eve of the expiration of his administration.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Innocent Ogbonnaya Nwanwo , said the government also directed the Rector of the polytechnic, Sir Obianko Worlu Elechi to proceed on compulsory leave.

Nwanwo said the sack of the newly recruited staff, as well as the directive on the Rector to proceed on compulsory leave was contained in a directive sent to the Polytechnic by the State Ministry of Education.

He said, “The recent employment exercise we had at the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori has been cancelled. The reason is that the government needed to review the process of their employment. The process that brought in the newly employed people; don’t forget, they have not started work, has been called off; it has been terminated by the state government.

“Right now, they don’t have a job here in the Rivers State Polytechnic. Technically speaking, that is the truth. The Rector is on leave; he was asked to proceed on leave.”

One of the sacked lecturers of the institution, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said their recruitment, which followed due process dates back to September 2014.

He therefore urged, The executive governor Nyesom Wike, traditional rulers, the State House of Assembly to intervene.

Elizade University NIIA donates N0.5m books to International Relations students

TheNigerian Institute of International Affairs(NIIA), Lagos has donated books worth N500,000 toElizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State.
The donation was made when students of the university's Department of History and International Relations visited the Institute during a field trip.

Following the donation, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof.Valentine Aletor, thanked the institute and promised to build upon the relationship initiated by the visit and the kind gesture.

Aletor noted that the university is determined to give relevant exposure to students, hence the decision to make arrangement for students of International Relations and History and Diplomatic Studies to have internship at the Institute and Embassies.

Youths In Politics Many Nigerian youths just want to eat out of the national cake’

Politics today in Nigeria is dominated by the older generation. The way the political structure in Nigeria is today is too close circuited. It does not really allow for youth engagement. One thing is sure; Nigeria’s future lies with the youths not with the political parties.
The youths are supposed to be encouraged by the politicians to join politics. Instead they are even discouraged by the conduct of the politicians. Instead of these politicians seeing the interest of the youths and encouraging them to continue they would not do that. Thuggery is one thing they use the youths for during, before and after the elections. They make them see politics as a dirty game and use them for what they would not even use their children for.
These politicians prefer to introduce their children or close relatives to politics. They would convince them to join politics whether they are interested in it or not. Where as those that are interested in politics and have good plans for Nigeria are not always encouraged. It is only few of them that get there.
However, many youths have their priorities wrong because of what they see our leaders do. They want to get there just to eat out of the ‘national cake’. They believe they also need to have their own share of the ‘national cake’. If the youth that we look up to as the future of Nigeria no longer have the interest of Nigeria at heart, then the future is at stake!
We should try our best as youths to have the interest of Nigeria at heart. We should not only think of what Nigeria can do for us but also what we can do for Nigeria. We should think of ways we can make Nigeria a better place so that if we eventually become leaders in the future we will do better than other leaders who have ruled Nigeria. But my fear for the nation is that the youth are not promising if one looks at the way in which the affairs of the youths are being run. Students’ associations are now seen as avenues for dubious connections and money making. Youths of today now live on the premise of no ideology can suit the taste of the Nigerian situation.
Indeed, the youths of Nigeria have a greater role to play in order to make sure that things change for better. Truth be told, not these politicians who recycle themselves will bring about the change they profess if not we, I mean those of us who have not been infected with the evil and satanic ideology of taking out of the national cake.

A 30-year-old university graduate,Sodiq Shittu, has been gruesomely murdered by unidentified hoodlums in Mushin area of Lagos State.

According to aPunchreport, Shittu, who has a pregnant wife, was attacked on Lawani Street by hoodlums.

One of them split his head open with a hammer before another crushed his head with a large rock.

Reports say Shittu is the third person on the street to be killed in such attacks within three months.

A truck loader, identified as Gbenga, was killed in March for his political activities while a tricycle driver, Debo Oturu, was shot and killed during a visit to his mother on May 19.

A female resident of the area told Punch that the government has not done anything despite the continuous violence.
“In March, somebody was killed on the street. Less than three weeks ago, they also murdered another person," she said.
“And now, they have killed him. What did the government do?
"Or are they waiting for them to kill all the people in the area before they act?”"
Shittu's corpse was reportedly taken by Policemen from the Alakara Division and deposited at a mortuary in the Morocco, Somolu area of the state.

Police in Lagos have arrested a 27-year-old trader,Lucky Bassey, for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.

Bassey and his alleged victim, a primary six pupil, are from the same village in Calabar, Akwa Ibom State, and reside in the same compound at Akilo Street, Bariga, Lagos State.

According to aPunchreport, the unnamed victim was using the toilet last Monday when the suspect forced the door open and sexually assaulted her.

The victim's mother later noticed that her daughter could not walk properly.
After interrogating her, she found out about the assault and reported at the Bariga Police Division.
Bassey was then arrested.

The victim told police that the suspect had warned her not to tell anyone of the incident or face consequences.

“I was in the toilet on Monday, May 25, around 8pm, when I heard a knock on the door. I told the person at the other side that I was using the toilet," she said.

“But brother Bassey forced the door open and closed my mouth to stop me from shouting.

“We were both standing when he raped me.

"He said I should not tell my mother about it or he would deal with me.”

The victim's mother said Bassey’s family members have asked her to forgive him.
“But I have told them it was no longer within my power and that the government has taken over the case,” she said.

"I don’t know why it will be my daughter of all people that he will do this to when there are many prostitutes out there that he can have sex with.”

The suspect has however denied the allegations.

“I don’t know what she is talking about because on that day, I did not enter the toilet as she claimed and I did not rape her,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officers,Kenneth Nwosu, said the police have "arrested the suspect and he has been remanded in the Ikoyi Prison after being charged to court.”

We Won’t Call Off Strike Until Our Demands Are Met, ASUU Tells Taraba Govt

our The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter of Taraba State University, on Tuesday gives Taraba state government conditions if the strike that has paralyzed academic activities in the institution would be suspended.

Chairman of ASUU in the university, Dr Reuben Jonathan who promulgate this to liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine said that it would suspend its strike if the state government could provide money for it to clear the N100 million cheque issued to the union in March this year.


Dr Reuben Jonathan, who was reacting to calls by the government to call off its three-month-old strike, said government should not expect the union to call off its strike without receiving any commitment to their demands.

He noted that the immediate past administration issued a N100 million cheque to the union as part payment for their unpaid allowances but that the said cheque bounced.

Dr Jonathan, who said the union embarked on strike due to lack of sincerity and commitment on the part of the past government in the state, expressed willingness to suspend its strike if the present administration is ready to meet part of their demands while negotiation continues.

He urged the present administration of Governor Darius Ishaku to give priority to the funding of the university to enhance quality education, just as he called for improvement of staff welfare to enable them offer the best to the university.

He said insinuation that lecturers usually embarked on strike without regard for students welfare, was a gross misconception. He added that all the strikes they had embarked upon were for genuine reasons.

ASUU tackles VC over chairman’s suspension

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Owerri Zone has flayed suspension of its chairman, Dr Uzochukwu Onyebinama, by authorities of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike in Abia State.
ASUU said the suspension was unnecessary. But Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Hilary Edeoga, said the suspension of Onyebinama, as staff of the university was in line with rules guiding the university. He added that the suspension was based on recommendations of the committee set up to investigate allegations of examination fraud and misconduct levelled against him. He maintained that Onyebinama’s suspension had nothing to do with his role as ASUU chairman.
The union had at its congress resolved to take action against the university. The resolution was made known by the Owerri zonal coordinator of ASUU, Professor Ike Odumegwu, who lamented that the chairman was placed on half salary and banned from entering the campus.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Edeoga, Onyebinama did not wait for the outcome of the investigation before running to court.
“You don’t take the university to court, the rule says that if you are suspended you go on half salary,” he said.
The VC maintained that Onyebinama was guilty of examination fraud by awarding suspicious marks to students. He added that there were also allegations of incompetence and mismanagement against him as the Director of Continuing Education Center (CEC).
He said the problem started after Onyebinama was removed as the Director of CEC, adding, “They started writing all sorts of petitions even against the new Director, but I stood my ground that the right thing must be done.”
Professor Edeoga said the panel of investigation found Onyebinama guilty of dereliction of duty, abuse of office and deliberate breach of senate guidelines.

“In addition, the committee also found him guilty of insubordination, total disregard for constituted authority, inefficiency, negligence and dishonesty in the discharge of his official functions,” he said.

It’s Painful Expelling Students – UNILORIN Vc

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has said that expelling students from the University for cultism or other anti-social activities is a painful but necessary action the University management occasionally takes to protect the lives and well-being of majority of other students.

He also said that as a citadel of learning and character – moulding, the University cannot afford to produce bad citizens for the society.
Prof. Ambali stated these last Friday (June 12, 2015), while receiving the new Director of the Kwara State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. V. Duru, who visited him in his office.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed satisfaction with the service the DSS has been rendering to the University in ensuring peace and stability on campus.
Prof, Ambali commended the new DSS Director in the state for his professionalism and clear understanding of the University.
Pointing out that the nation should be grateful for having such a professional outfit, the Vice-Chancellor said that “the DSS must be commended for showing great professionalism in managing the security affairs of the country”.
Maintaining that it is not easy to manage 35,000 students, who come from diverse backgrounds, Prof. Ambali called for the continued support of the DSS. “Through your cooperation, we have been able to maintain peace on campus and discipline among our students”, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor told the DSS Director that Unilorin has staff from the 36 states of the federation, adding that the University is desirous of improving the access of Nigerians to education without compromising the quality of education it provides.
Earlier in his remarks, the DSS Director Mr. Duru, commended the University for the stable academic calendar it had enjoyed over the years and promised to sustain the cordial relationship between the Service and the University.
Mr. Duru also advised the University on areas where security need to be beefed up, saying that a generally acknowledged peaceful campus like Unilorin is, ironically, a veritable target of trouble makers, who would naturally want to rock the boat. As a result of this, he advised the University management not to rest on its oars.

Hollywood Crew To Shoot Film In UNILORIN

Hollywood Actor, Producer and Director, Mr. Bayo Akinfemi, has said that a film crew from Hollywood would be arriving the University of Ilorin soon to hold workshops for students of the Department of the Performing Arts, and shoot a film on the campus.

Mr Akinfemi, an alumnus of the University, disclosed this last Friday (June 12, 2015), when he visited the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON) in his office.
The former President, Performing Arts Students Association, University of Ilorin, said it has become necessary for him to come back home and give back to the institution that gave him so much.
He explained that the proposed film would enable the students of Performing Arts to understand how to translate theory to practice, adding that it would also serve as a “calling card” to take back to Hollywood.
The Hollywood actor said that Nigeria is capable of producing Oscar Award-winning films if the enabling environment is put in place, stressing that the country should be attracting Hollywood to its movie industry. He described himself as a son that has been sent out and he is back bringing report.

Mr. Akinfemi, who noted that it is important for students to learn to translate stage acting to film, said that he is looking forward to the future. He also expressed the hope that Nigeria would soon become the golden destination for Hollywood.
Welcoming the actor back to the University campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ambali, expressed his delight to see Mr. Akinfemi. He also congratulated the Dean of Arts, Prof. Ayo Akinwande, who supervised Mr. Akinfemi’s undergraduate project, on seeing his students excel.

The Vice-Chancellor said that Mr. Akinfemi has been able to translate the education he received at the University of Ilorin to the outside world. “You have done this for national development and for the entire world. You are flying the flag of the University really high”, Prof. Ambali told him.

Prof. Ambali also submitted that it is assuring to know that the University of Ilorin is part of Mr. Akinfemi’s future plans. He assured him that the good experience he had at the University of Ilorin is still ongoing.

He disclosed that the University is planning to establish a television station in addition to the FM radio station that is already making waves on the University campus and its environs.

Members of the University management, who joined the Vice-Chancellor to receive the Hollywood Actor were later treated to a demo clip of some of his films.

The Vice-Chancellor also received members of the Unilorin Postgraduate Students’ Association (POGSASS), who visited him in his office.

The Association, led by its President, Mr. Olorunsuwa Elijah Ola, presented a Plasma Television set for the office of the Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor as their token contribution to the University.
Mr. Olorunsuwa appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his leadership style and pleaded that outstanding postgraduate students should be considered for employment by the University.

Speaking in the same vein, the Dean, Postgraduate School, Prof. Clement Bewaji, described the donation by the students as exemplary, while calling for greater enabling environment to help the students do more.

The Vice-Chancellor, in his response, thanked POGSASS immensely, saying that they would make good leaders in the future. “You cannot be a good leader unless you are a good follower. You have demonstrated that you are a good follower by coming up with solution”, the Vice-Chancellor said.

Prof. Ambali said that the University is producing leaders for the future and assured the association that the University is concerned with the welfare of the postgraduate students. He told them that the future belongs to them, calling on them to keep flying high the flag of the University.

University Of Ibadan Workers To Embarked On Strike

The non-academic staff of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday, issued a two-week ultimatum to the institution’s management to settle all outstanding issues, otherwise the management should be ready for a strike.

The workers, under the aegis of the Joint Union of Non Academic Staff of Universities, told journalists after a congress in Ibadan that the ultimatum was necessitated because of the alleged insincerity of the institution’s management.
The three unions are: the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
Mr Wale Akinremi, spokesman of the unions, said that the university since 2009 had allegedly failed to pay workers the Earned Allowances that the Federal Government had approved for them.
Akinremi said that other contending issues included the alleged privatisation of the University Staff School and the career structure proposed by the management.
According to him, the unions in 2009 had an agreement with the Federal Government on the payment of Earned Allowances but since then, management had allegedly not paid a single staff member.
“And the issue of the privatisation of the staff school is null and void and every union is saying no to It,” he said.
Akinremi said that the union had it on good record that the Federal Government had made available fund for payment of the Earned Allowances to workers.
However, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Isaac Adewole, said that the allegation of corruption was unfounded.
“These are unfounded allegations, we do not know where these came from. There is nothing like privatisation of the University Staff School,” he said.
He said that the institution had done a lot to improve staff welfare and that the council of the university, in a meeting, proposed a new career structure for all workers to prevent stagnation.
“There must be a career structure for all workers. The University of Ibadan of the 21st century must do an evaluation of all members of staff for promotion to the next level.
“The new structure is for those on CONTISS 9 and above, who will henceforth be promoted every four years and this is to further prevent staff stagnation,” Adewole said.
On the Earned Allowances, the vice chancellor said that the university was yet to effect the payment due to shortage of funds.
He said that the management would continue to dialogue with the unions to reach a compromise, adding that the situation would not be allowed to degenerate to a workers’ strike.

Armed Robbers Killed NYSC Corps Member In Benin

Forlorn report reaching us has it that, a 21-year-old National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member identified as David Onyeasina, has been killed by a notorious armed robbers in Benin, Edo State capital.

9ja School gist gather through liveschoolnews that the 21-year-old corps member, who was posted to Edo College, along Murtala Mohammend Way, Benin, for his primary assignment, was a graduate of Fine and Applied Arts from Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Osun State.

He was said to have gone to a shop to buy a recharge card last Saturday when the robbers attacked and shot him dead.
Two of the robbers have been apprehended by the police.

The suspects (names withheld) who were arrested by police on patrol, said late Daniel was hit by stray bullets as they attempted to escape.

Edo State Police Command spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwochei, who confirmed the arrest, listed items recovered from the robbers to include two cut-to-size guns, nine live cartridges, 10 mobile phones and jewellery belonging to their victims.

Onwochei said the police are on the heels of other members of the gang and urged the public to assist the police with relevant information.

The Association of Resident Doctors, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi-Araba, Lagos have embarked on a three days warning strike over the management’s skipping policy for doctors.

The three days warning-strike which began on June 15, Monday, was declared by the ARD Chairman, Dr. Moronkola Ramon.

During a protest within the hospital premises, Ramon warned the hospital management that, all resident doctors may take full action if their demands are not met.

He stated that the hospital management had stopped skipping, that is a policy whereby doctors were given double promotion. Thereby, giving a seven-day ultimatum to the management to implement this policy.

According to Punch, Ramon said, “We also served the 21-day notice needed for us to proceed on an indefinite action if they failed to implement the policy. If they do not after this strike, we will consider an indefinite strike. However, we will be providing emergency services to avert unnecessary loss of lives”.

However, the ARD Chairman, wondered why LUTH is yet to comply with the agreement that the Federal Government had with its national body of the Nigerian Medical Association.

HND/B.Sc Dichotomy Buhari urged to address 'dangerous' certificate discrimination

A social critic has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to help stop alleged discrimination between Higher National; Diploma (HND) and Bachelor’s Degree holders in Nigeria's paramilitary formations.


A social critic has called on PresidentMuhammadu Buharito help stop alleged discrimination between Higher National; Diploma (HND) and Bachelor’s Degree holders in Nigeria's paramilitary formations.

In an essay published by PM News, Buhari was urged to take quick action in order to stop the 'dangerous discrimination.'

"President Muhammadu Buhari should please urgently end this certificate discrimination between HND and BSc. holders in Federal Ministry of Interior (Prisons, Immigration, Civil Defence) and others in order to increase productivity in fight against insecurity and insurgents," the report stated.
"This discrimination is dangerous, unethical, and unconstitutional."
The unnamed critic warned that the discrimination could lead to armed conflict is nothing is done urgently.

"There is a looming bloody clash between these two cadres at fields of operation due to live arms/ammunition they bear and that is why every well-meaning Nigerian should help towards scrapping out this discrimination because you or your family could be victim directly or indirectly."
Some of the alleged discrimination included:

*HND (Inspectorate Cadre), while B.Sc. (Superintendent Cadre).

*Entry Level for HND is G/L 7, while a fellow Graduate with B.Sc. is G/L 8.

*Terminal Point for HND is G/L 13, while B.Sc. is to the highest G/L.

*HND or inspectorate cadre ranks are confusing, while superintendent ranks are normal ranks/recognized ranks in military/paramilitary agencies.

B.Sc Holder do not pay complement to his superior officer with HND certificate.

*HND graduates are denied one Grade Level during conversation.

*Above all, HND holder in this Ministry of Interior are regarded and treated as artisans with WASC or Trade Test qualifications.

The writer noted also that personnel of paramilitary formations leave their duties and focus on "getting more certificates by hook or crook in order to be converted to the superintendent cadre."
He also noted that the "other well recognised security agencies like; Nigeria Military, DSS, Nigerian Police, etc do not discriminate in ranking between HND and BSc. holders."

The HND/BSc debate has been on on for a long time, signalling a battle of supremacy between polytechnic and university certificate holders.
In an interview with an Abuja based newspaper, Dr. Kabiru Matazu, Rector of Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic Kazaure, called for the removal of the dichotomy.
Also, the National President of National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) Com. Ogbonnaya Sunday, the problems of polytechnic students and graduate can be traced to the dichotomy.
Even more recently, Professor Femi Mimiko, Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, described the dichotomy as unnecessary

How Common Entrance Cut-Off Marks are Determined

Criteria used by NECO to determine common entrance cut-off marks —- Cut-off marks for the National Common Entrance Examination(NCEE) into unity colleges are determined through ranking – if you want to admit 6000 students in a state for instance, then you rank from the score of the first person to where the score of the 6000th person stops and that becomes the cut-off mark.



Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, the Registrar, National Examination Council (NECO), explained on Saturday why cut-off marks for the National Common Entrance Examination(NCEE) into unity colleges varies from state to state.

Garba said that it was not actually the score alone that determines whether a child qualifies or not.

“In every state, ranking is done; if you want to admit 6000 students in a state for instance, then you rank from the score of the first person to where the score of the 6000th person stops and that becomes the cut-off mark.

“Performances vary from state to state; you hear parents say I am from so and so state and my child score high but was not admitted but another child from another state was admitted.

27-yr-old law student hangs self in final year

A final year law student at theUniversity of Benin(UNIBEN) has allegedly committed suicide by hanging at the weekend.
Daniel Iyoha, a 27-year-old undergraduate hung himself at his family home at No. 17, Obamwonyi Street, Off Universal Road, Benin City for reasons yet unknown.

Reports quoting sources say the late student had attended mass and done his laundry that day.
When his mother left the house for a neighbour's he locked his door, tied a wrapper to the ceiling fan and hung himself.
His sister was reading in another room but did not know anything untoward was happening.

On returning, the mother noticed Daniel's absence and had the door forced open to discover her lifeless son.

9ja School Gist Team gathered that the late student, who combined his studies with an auto mobile spare parts business, was an easy-going person and devout Catholic.
The spokesperson of the Edo Police Command, DSPStephen Onwochei, confirmed the incident.
“We got the report that one Daniel Iyoha hanged himself with a wrapper on a ceiling fan in his room," he said.

"When our team of investigators were drafted there, after reviewing the crime scene the corpse was brought down and moved to a hospital."
He also said investigations are on-going.
This is the second suicide by a student of UNIBEN in 2015 alone.

In February, a 26-year-old graduate of the institution and serving member of theNational Youth Service Corp(NYSC), committed suicide after a finding out that a girl he is in love with has been engaged by another man.

AKSU Late Registration Deadline, Penalty – 2014/15

Akwa Ibom State University, AKSU late registration deadline and penalty for students of the institution have been announced – 2014/2015 academic session.



The Registrar has instructed that from today Monday 15/06/2015, ALL students making school fee payment will be charged an additional N5,000.00 as penalty for late registration. see highlights of the circular below:

Monday June 15, 2015- Late Registration begins for ALL students with penalty of N5,000.00

Tuesday June 30, 2015 – end of late Registration for all students

Therefore, students should be allowed to carry out their screening and registration till Friday June 12, 2015 when students registration will end, before commencement of late registration, as approved by the University Senate, carries a penalty of Five Thousand Naira (N5,000.00) only, made payable to the University at the Bursary Department and receipt obtained.

Late Registration will end by Tuesday June 30, 2015, and accordingly, the registration portal will be closed for the 1st semester of 2014/2015 session.

Most importantly, all students should note that failure to register on or before June 30th , 2015 will end in suspension of studies or deferment of admission for the defaulting students.

UNIOSUN crisis Gov Aregbesola approves sack of VC, others

The Visitor to the Osun State University, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, has approved the termination of the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bashiru Okesina.

The Visitor also accepted the recommendation for the dissolution of the Governing Council, headed by Prof. Gabriel Olawoyin (SAN). However, he said the council will still be in place until the process of the appointment of a new V-C of the institution was completed.

The termination of appointment of Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, who is a deputy V-C, was also contained in the document. He was sacked for playing negative roles in the crisis.

The Visitor also warned the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at UNIOSUN, Dr. Oluseye Abiona, for using the union for selfish purposes. Abiona was also relieved of his   appointment as the Coordinator of the Centre for Renewable Energy in the university.

The document read in part, “The Prof. A. B. Okesina-led management should be terminated by relieving the Vice-Chancellor (Prof. A. B. Okesina), Registrar (Dr. J. O. Faniran) and Bursar (Mr. F. A. Lasisi) of their positions in Osun State University immediately.

“The appointment of Prof. Siyan Oyeweso should be terminated for his negative roles in the crisis; his ambition-driven over-influence on the vice-chancellor which contributed immensely to the V-C’s irredeemable mistakes in the administration of the university.

“Prof. Wasiu Alamu Gbolagade should not be allowed to hold any position of responsibility in Osun State University for his roles in the crisis for attending the two clandestine meetings against the Governing Council held in the V-C’s house with other principal officers of the university.

“Prof. B. R. Olorede should be disallowed from holding positions of responsibility in Osun State University for the next five (5) years.

“The Bursar (Lasisi), Prof. Kizito Folorunso, Prof. Wasiu Alamu Gbolagade and any other person yet to refund the money paid to them as IGR proceeds should be made to make the refunds


The governor was silent on the panel’s recommendation that the six campuses of the university be reduced to three. The panel stated that the multi-campus nature of the university was having negative impact on it than positive ones.

13-YEAR-OLD STUDENT DROWNS IN KUBWA RIVER

A 13-year-old boy has reportedly died while swimming in a river behind a petrol station along the Abuja-Kubwa expressway.
City News gathered that the deceased, Kayode Busari, a student of Junior Secondary School, Kubwa, had gone to swim at the river with five of his friends where he met his death.

The source said he was one of the candidates sitting for the ongoing junior West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams and had just finished writing a paper when he left for the stream with his classmates.
“It was a farmer working in his farm close to the stream that saw the boy drowning and tried to rescue him but did not succeed,” the source added.

According to the source, the farmer alerted the police who arrived the scene and carried the corpse to the hospital.
It further revealed that the incident was not the first time students had gone to the stream, adding that they even go with food in some occasions.
City News learnt that the mother of the deceased collapsed when the news got to her, as he was said to be one of only two children she has.
When contacted, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Nurrudeen Sabo, said the body was taken to the Kubwa General Hospital where it was certified dead and deposited at the mortuary.

He described the incident as tragic, urging parents to be more concerned about the whereabouts of their children.

NUT TACKLES KOGI GOVT OVER TEACHERS’ SALARIES, ENTITLEMENTS

Kogi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers ( NUT) at the weekend took on the state government over, the non-payment of teachers salaries and entitlements.

The state NUT chairman, Suleiman Abdullahi, after a meeting between the Union and the Board members of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB-) led by its chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ahmed, said if the state government had followed the law which mandated it to contribute to the funding of basic education, there would have been no problem.
He lamented that the state government left the burden for only the local government to bear.

“The law that set up Kogi State SUBEB was signed by the former governor, Ibrahim Idris, in 2005, and it stipulates that the financing of SUBEB should be carried out by the state and local governments but this is not the case. Had it been the state government has been paying its contributions, many of these problems would have been solved,” he said.
He said during the meeting, the SUBEB chairman assured them that the problem of teachers salaries would soon be over as a committee headed by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede to look into the matter had been set up.

“SUBEB has agreed that the government is owing teachers November and December salaries  and other allowances. We told them that the N25 billion we talked about is balance owned teachers since the commencement of payment of minimum wage in 2011,” he said.

On the Leave grant for basic education teachers, the NUT chairman said the SUBEB blamed the education secretary of various local governments who are yet to compute the figures for onward submission to the government.

The chairman pleaded with members of the union to remain calm and wait for further directives, adding that the union will meet to decide on the next line of action.
Meanwhile,  primary school teachers in the state have called on Independent Corrupt Practises and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to stop NUT from deducting union dues from their salaries.

This was contained in a letter by 53 staff of Okene Local Government Education Authority and signed by Abdullahi Yekeeni.

SSANU Threatens To Shut Down Universities

Activities in the nation’s universities would soon be paralyzed as the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU)  threatened to commence a nationwide strike should the Federal Government carry out its plans to stop funding of university staff schools across the country.

Vice-President, Western Zone of SSANU, Comrade Alfred Jimoh drop the hints during a peaceful protest against a circular purportedly issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, directing Federal Public Establishments with staff schools not to fund their personnel budget from the treasury, at the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma-Edo State.

The unionists, carrying placard with various inscriptions marched through the university, chanting songs that captured their grievances.

Comrade Alfred Jimoh, insisted that government must abide by the 2009 FGN/SSANU Agreements, which according to him, states among other things that the recurrent and capital expenditure of the staff schools is the responsibility of government.

Trailer Crushes LAUTECH 400 Level Female Student To Death (Photos)

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, community has again been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a 400 level accounting student, korede who was crushed to death by trailer.

This is coming barely a week after a 400 level mechanical student of the institution slumped and died playing football.
