The reversal of the federal government’s policy on the upgrading of the four Federal Colleges of Education to university status by the administration of the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan will further jeopardise the fate of over 50,000 applicants seeking university admissions yearly.
The last administration had earlier approved the sum of N500million for each of the four upgraded colleges to universities of education as take-off grants.
The upgraded colleges of education were College of Education, Zaria; Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo; Federal College of Education, Kano; and Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri.
The disclosure was made during an investigative hearing conducted by the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Services with the Coalition of Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions from the affected four COEs, held in Abuja.
