Arase 6 pupils win police IG's scholarship awards

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Alfred Monday, an Inspector of Police, whose daughter, Gift, benefitted, thanked the I-G for introducing the award.

Six children in Police Central School, Umuahia, on Tuesday received the 2015 Inspector-General of Police (I-G) scholarship award up to the university level.

The Abia Commissioner of Police, Mr Joshak Habila, while presenting the certificates to the beneficiaries in Umuahia, said that the I-G's gesture was meant to assist indigent and intelligent children of police personnel to pursue their education.

Habila said that the I-G introduced the award because of his belief that “education is the bedrock of a nation''.
He said that the award was for brilliant children of police personnel, especially those who died in active service.
Habila said that the beneficiaries excelled in the written test and oral interview organised to select the best.
The list of the beneficiaries included Chidi Onyedikachukwu (Primary 1); Onyeabor Chimaobi (Primary 1); Destiny Apeh (Primary 2); Gift Monday (Primary 2); Florence Egede (Primary 4) and Joy Chinedu (Primary 5).

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Alfred Monday, an Inspector of Police, whose daughter, Gift, benefitted, thanked the I-G for introducing the award.
The Head Teacher of the school, Mr Dony Akparanta, also thanked the I-G for the gesture and gave an assurance that the school would continue to train children to excel in their education.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has assured residents of the state of the command’s readiness to protect lives and property during and after the Yuletide.
He said that he personally intervened to rescue a woman and her children from suspected kidnappers in Umuahia, the state capital on Tuesday, following a distress call from an informant.
He charged members of the public to assist the police and other security agencies with useful information that could help them to fight crime in the state.
Habila said that there was effective collaboration among the security agencies, together with the state vigilance groups, to ensure a reduction in crime in the area.
