Candidates Score FUTA High At 2015 Post-UTME As 11,000 Jostle For Placement

Candidates writing the Post UTME Examination of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) have adjudged the exercise fair, orderly and highly functional.
A very confident Bright Adefoyegun who spoke on the facilities deployed for the examination, which runs between August 4th and 6th, expressed deep appreciation to the University Management for the state-of-the-art facilities which he said provided candidates a huge opportunity to be tested on merit. Gbademosi Oluwatobi, another candidate who was positive about his admission said that the questions were sufficiently simple for candidates who had prepared properly for the examination stressing that only hard work could birth success.
Sharing Gbademosi’s sentiments, a female candidate and prospective Agricultural Engineering student, Abiodun Elizabeth, emphasized that the questions were straight forward and easy to tackle by anyone who had invested in hard work.
While speaking on timeliness and the general examination conduct, a prospective Mechanical Engineering student, Emmanuel Adeleke noted with emphasis that the examination commenced to time with all facilities working as appropriate. On the use of computers, Adeleke noted that young people had transcended the barriers of computer illiteracy hence found the procedure familiar. He thanked the University for a thorough Job done, stressing particularly the well sorted subject combinations.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and Chair, University Admissions Committee, Professor Tunde Arayela explained that candidates were screened based on standard regulations provided by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and on merit, such that only candidates who scored or passed the Joint Admissions Matriculations Board (JAMB) cut-off mark of 180 were eligible. He disclosed that though over 11,000 candidates were eligible for the examination, only the very best would be admitted subject to NUC’s acceptance as the University has a current carrying capacity to admit 2,834 persons into its existing 39 departments.
Addressing the uniqueness of this year’s Post-UTME exercise, the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Ajayi noted that the examination and its arena were characterized by calmness and orderliness.
The Dean, Student Affairs Division and the Coordinator of the exercise, Dr. Kayode Alese who spoke on the fragmentation of candidates into batches explained that the examination which had been hitch-free was difficult to commit fraud in. He revealed that candidates were screened even in the examination hall as passport sized photographs of each candidate were displayed at the top right corner of computers in use as a means of verification to dissuade impersonation. He explained further that data and finger prints gathered on candidates at the biometrics area would be stored and used to verify successful candidates in latter days as a means of maintaining zero tolerance for examination malpractice.
