IBBU Could Not Admit More Candidates For 2015/2016 Due To Low Admission Quota - VC

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai has disclosed that the university could not admit more than 30 per cent of those who applied for admission in the 2015/2016 session due to low admission quota to the institution by NUC.
He revealed this during the matriculation ceremony of 2,956 new students for the 2015/2016 academic session held recently.
According to him, out of the 8,186 students that applied for admission only 3,078 were offered admission representing 30 per cent.

IBBU Awards Scholarship To 18 Students For Outstanding Academic Perfomance

18 students of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai have been awarded scholarship by the institution for excellent academic performance in the 2014/2015 academic session.
This was announced by the Vice Chancellor of the institution Prof. Mohammed Nasir Maiturare, during the 2015/2016, matriculation ceremony of the institution.
According to him, the scholarship covers the tuition and accommodation of the beneficiary students through out their stay in the school provided they maintain a cumulative grade of four points and above in their various disciplines.
Any one that fails to meet this requirement will not benefit in the next academic session.

The Vice Chancellor acting on the advice of the Academic Board of the ESUT College of Medicine has approved the conditions stated hereunder for reopening of the College of Medicine.
1.DATE FOR REOPENING OF THE COLLEGE
The College will be reopened on Wednesday 10thFebruary, 2016.
2.PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION OF RETURNING STUDENTS INTO THE COLLEGE
For the purpose of Screening and Clearance, returning students are grouped as follows:

8.Letter of Undertaking to be of good behaviour by each student.

She said the school would not tolerate indiscipline, urging the students to abstain from what could make them lose their admission.
The Head of Department (HOD) of Mass Communication of University of Lagos (UNILAG),Dr Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, has assured freshers that if they are well behaved, they will not have any problems with lecturers,TheNationreports.

'Once you are obedient, no lecturer will maltreat you,” she said when warning them against unlawful organisation
Ndisika also warned freshers against begging their teachers for marks.

The department, she said, would recommend expulsion for any student who engages in such act. She said the school would not tolerate indiscipline, urging the students to abstain from what could make them lose their admission.

She spoke last Friday at an orientation organised by the Mass Communication Students’ Association (MCSA) for the freshers.

She said punctuality and obedience remained were the cornerstone of their success, adding that the department was concerned about how students would get the best training to help them survive.
Ogwezzy, an associate professor of Mass Communication, said: “Let me emphasise that punctuality and class attendance are very highly required. If any student doesn’t have up to 65 per cent attendance, the university rule is that such a student won’t write the examination. Therefore, you must manage your time well.”

UNN Fire Victims get new hostels

The fire incident took place on December 23 when a two-storey female hostel went up in flame due to a power surge. No fewer than 32 rooms were razed and prosperity worth millions of naira destroyed.

Victims of the fire which gutted Okeke Hall of Residence at theUniversity of Nigeria,Nsukka (UNN) have now been reolocated to new hostels, TheNation reports.

The fire incident took place on December 23 when a two-storey female hostel went up in flame due to a power surge. No fewer than 32 rooms were razed and prosperity worth millions of naira destroyed.

A statement by Dean, Students’ Affairs (DSA), Prof Peter Akah said the students were allotted bed space on first-come-first-served basis. The students, it added, presented their original online allocation papers and identity cards that enabled management to relocate them to Nkrumah Hall, Mary Slessor Hall and Zik’s Flat Hostel.

Ugochi Okechukwu, a 100-Level English and Literary Studies student, said management’s decision took them by surprise.

Her words: “The management has done its best by giving us another hostel. It is a good development we have been relocated. They did not leave us hanging around in the school, looking for accommodation and trying to pair room with friends. We are surprised by the school decision.”

While the fire victims have settle down in their new accommodation, some have urged the school to compensate them for their documents and properties lost in the inferno. A 300-Level Economics student, who identified herself as Adaeze, said allocation of new hostels to the fire victims was not enough to compensate the students.

She said: “Most of them had travelled when the incident happened, so they could not evacuate their properties while their rooms were being razed. I expected the school to compensate them, because some of them lost vital documents. The school should be commended for allocating new hostels to them, but I believe the students deserve more.”

During preaching, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG lead pastor scolded students involved in cultism and encouraged them to come out of the congregation and give their lives to Christs.
“I want those of you who have been deceived into joining any cult group to come forward and my God will set you free.
“Come now, I want to pray for you, the Lord wants to set you free. Come and be free, come to the one who can set you free,” the pastor said.
Spokesperson of OAU,Abiodun Olanrewaju, however said that it is possible that not all the students who repented where from the University as students from other institution attended the service.
“Some students came from different higher institutions for the service. Some of them hearkened to the call of God made by Baba Adeboye.
“We are happy that youths of this country are renouncing cultism and embracing God. It shows that there is a bright future for this country. We are happy and I am sure the people of Nigeria are happy about this,” he said.

On its website, the institution writes, “At just 26 years of age, Romola has set a record in being the youngest person to obtain a Doctor of Laws degree (LLD) in the 30-year history of the Centre for Human Rights.
Furthermore, she is only the second youngest person to achieve this in the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria since its establishment 107 years ago. She distinguished herself by completing the LLD in under 3 years.
This record is in keeping with a pattern of excellence which Romola has maintained since her undergraduate years at Lagos State University (LASU) where she was awarded the Taslim Olawale Elias Prize for the Best Student in International Law.

Romola’s relationship with the Centre for Human Rights began from her participation in the 2008 African Human Rights Moot Court Competition. In 2012, she was selected as a DAAD scholar to study for the LLM/MPhil degree in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa. She graduated cum laude, earning two awards: the Kéba M’Baye award for the overall Best Dissertation and the Victor Dankwa prize for the Best Performance in the module: Human Rights in Africa.
Her excellent record earned her admission to the Centre’s doctoral programme in 2013. Her thesis, supervised by Prof Frans Viljoen was titled Development-induced displacement in Africa: Striking a balance between the imperative of development and the rights of persons likely to be displaced. In her thesis, Romola analyzed the obligation in article 10 of the African Union Convention in relation to the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa. Her study, one of the first on this Convention, focused specifically on development-induced displacement which is one of the root causes of internal displacement in Africa.”

Ambrose Alli University: Varsity students fees increased by over 100 percent

This new development is now cause for concern and anxiety for students, parents and school staff who have wards in the institution.

The management atAmbrose Alli University(AAU), Ekpoma has reportedly increased school fees for new students for the 2015/2016 academic year by over 100 per cent with fresh students of the College of Medicine required to pay N161,500.
DailySun reports that this new development is now cause for concern and anxiety for students, parents and school staff who have wards in the institution.

The new students, especially Medical students, are expected to pay an Acceptance Fee of N75,000, while other course would attract N60,000.
Following protests by the AAU Students’ Union and concerned parents, the university management agreed that new students should pay the new fees in two instalments.

All fresh students of AAU and their parents/guardians are hereby informed that the university management has graciously approved that the school fees for the 2015/2016 academic session can be paid in two installments,” read the statement by Chris Adamaigbo, Deputy Registrar, Information/Public Relations Officers.

It warned: “All fresh students are to note that the deadline for the payment of the first instalment of the school fees is 20th January, 2016. The university management expects all fresh students, their parents/guardians to take advantage of this opportunity by promptly paying the first instalment of their school fees for the 2015/2016 academic session on or before the deadline of 20th January, 2016.”
A breakdown of the new fee structure revealed that students admitted to Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences and Fine and Applied Arts are to pay N97,750 (old students N34,500); students of Economics, Public Administration, Business Administration and Banking& Finance are being charged N111,500 (old students N40,000).

Students admitted into Natural Science, Agriculture and Education Physiology are to pay N113,500; new students for Engineering, Natural Sciences,
Architecture and Building are charged N124,000, and for College of Medicine which has the highest fee, fresh students would pay N161,000 (old students N47,000) as well as N75,000 as Acceptance Fee

Others are: Medical Laboratory Sciences, Anatomy, Nursing, Law and Accounting to pay 129,000 (old students: N47, 000); new students of the Institute of Education are now to pay N111,500 (old students N40, 000).

A parent,Mr. Roland Osaro, whose ward was offered admission to read Law appealed toGovernor Oshiomholeto reverse the increment noting that with his meagre salary, he could not afford to pay the N129,000 and N50,000 Acceptance Fee.

1.Register and pay for the Post UTME exercise through the college portal ( www.kwcoeilorin.edu.ng/portal /putme)
2.Printout the acknowledgement slip containing your personal details and examination schedule (date, time and hall)
3.Printout three (3) copies of your customized answer sheets.
4.Report at the college on the scheduled date with the following:
1.Photocopy of UTME result slip (bring the original for sighting)
2.Photocopies of WASC, NECO, NABTEB, etc. results (bring originals for sighting)
3.Recent coloured passport sized photograph.

Kwara College of Edu. Fees Payment, Registration Deadline – 2015/16

Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, KWCOEILORIN school fees payment and registration deadline for the 2015/2016 academic session.
This s to inform all the students of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin (KWCOEILORIN) that the authorities of the institution have announced the final date for the closure of the university portal for the 2015/2016 academic session registration.
The NCE Portal opened for registration since 18th January, 2016 in respect of the ongoing 2015/2016 academic session will be closed by 8th February, 2016.
In the light of the foregoing, Students who are yet to pay their school fees are hereby advised to do so on or before 8th February, 2016 in their own interest.
Please note that late registration will not be entertained, as there will be no room to reopen the portal.

Reps walk UNILORIN VC out over frivolous spending

The House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education, on Thursday, refused to review the 2016 budget proposal of the University of Ilorin over what it described as over-spending and frivolous expenditure entered into by the university’s management in 2015 without adequate details.
Led by Rep. Aminu Suleiman, the Committee frowned at the action of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali for spending the sum of N42 million on hotel accommodation alone.
A member of the House Committee, Rep. Kehinde
Odeneye, while questioning Ambali, asked: “How could you have spent N42 million on expenses? How many days were spent at the hotels and who were the guests you hosted?
“Then is another N100 million for take-off grant for new departments without actually telling us how many they are and the things needed for the take-off. “N50 million on workshops and seminars.
This is apart from the training grants obtained.
Then, there’s maintenance of buildings, which also is without details”. Also, the committee expressed displeasure at a project of N49 million expended by the university on road culverts which did not have details of the project description in the documents presented to the committee.
The committee further cited another N60 million spent on environmental upgrading which it said lacked enough details.
In his defence, Abdulganiyu said the institution had a number of memorandum of understanding with many individuals who were important visitors to the university.

Fed Poly Zamfara 1st Semester Examination Time-table 2015/2016 Announced

The 1st semester Examination time-table of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda Zamfara has been released.
According to the time table, the examination will commence February 15th, 2016 and end March 1st, 2016.
