Stop Waiting For ‘White’ Collar Jobs, Start Recharge Card Business, NYSC DG Urges Corps Members

The Director General of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Sulyman Kazaure, has urged corps members to stop waiting for ‘white’ collar jobs after the service year, urging them to engage in legitimate businesses for survival.
Instead of waiting endlessly for jobs that would not come, Kazaure advised unemployed graduates to sell top-up cards (recharge cards) for telecommunications firms and make a living.
The NYSC boss gave the advice in Ebonyi on Saturday when he visited the Orientation Camp in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.
The DG, who warned the Batch A, Stream 2 corps members against perpetrating acts of corruption in their places of assignment, urged them to learn a skill or two during the period of their orientation course in camp.
Mr. Kazaure, a Brigadier General, said “Don’t wait for ‘white’ collar jobs, even if it is recharge card or even buying and selling. Do any available legitimate business no matter how small it is. I don’t want my children, after service, to say there is no job. Create jobs for yourself.
“To you currently in camp, seize this opportunity and learn one or two skills. It will help you a lot tomorrow. I wish you a successful service year”.

Gov Tambuwal raises corps members'allowance

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has raised the allowances of youth corps members serving in the state, with a pledge to begin the immediate payment of the new rate.
DEcamped—Speaker Tambuwal after decamping to APC, yesterday.
Tambuwal announced the new policy during the swearing-in ceremony of 2006 Batch A Stream II corps members at the state NYSC orientation camp in Wamakko town.
He said the state government appreciated the services of corps members and the government would continue to make their welfare a top priority.
Governor Tambuwal said the increase affected all categories of youth corps members, while graduates of major health courses would get more.
His words: “Graduates of medicine will now be paid N50,000 from the current amount of N36,000. Pharmacists will now N25,000 up from the N19,000 obtainable in the past, while graduates of lab science and other medical technicians like nurses are now entitled to monthly stipend of N15,000, up from the current N9,000 they are getting from the state government.
“In the same vein, graduates of social science and humanities will now be paid N5,000 monthly, a one thousand addition from the previous N4,000 they received from as state allawee.”
While urging the youth corps members to reciprocate government gesture by being diligent in their areas of primary assignments, Tambuwal urged them to shun vices that will lead to the breakdown of law and order and communal harmony.
“I urge you to shun militancy, terrorism and cultism. I also invite you explore Sokoto and study its rich history, culture and people,” the governor said.

Forget "Admission Screening" Prepare For Post-UTME As Usual

The Federal Government’s directive for post-UTME to be scrapped seems to have come at a time when schools have already started putting plans in place to conduct the exercise for 2016/2017 academic session. Some schools had even announced theirs before the directive came.
It was expected that the scrapping of post-UTME should mean that schools will not demand screening fees/charges from candidates. But going by observations, that is not the case.
The major reason being that schools have already invested in logistics and planning in preparation towards the conduct of 2016/2017 post-UTME before the directive to scrap it came. So they have to recuperate what they have already invested, hence the reason for screening fee/charges.
Similarly, you must have observed that institutions that have announced the start of their admission process for 2016/2017 session have used the nomenclature "Admission screening" to replace the post-UTME. But looking at the procedure and screening details, you need no prophet to tell you that what you're going to have this year is Post-UTME as usual.
What this means for candidates is, forget "admission screening" and prepare for post-UTME as it has always been.
In many schools, the so called "admission screening" will be nothing than what post-UTME has been like in previous years.
So don't relax and think there's going to be a change or that the screening will be a walk over. One vital lesson you need to learn in life is to always prepare for the worst.

If you have been cooling off, you better start blazing now. Get the relevant materials and start preparing. Don't forget that one key material you need in your preparation is thePost-UTME Past questions and solutionsof your choice schools.

Probably schools will be able to adjust to the directive to scrap post-UTME entirely by next year. But for this year, we have to face the reality.

Wish you success.

The Scrapping Of Post-UTME Does Not Mean There Won't Be Screening

One of the major decisions taken at the end of the 2016 policy meeting that has all the stakeholders in the education in attendance, was that post-UTME should be scrapped.
Obviously, many candidates do not understand the import of this going by the number of calls we have been receiving concerning this.
Many of them think that since post-UTME has been scrapped there's not going to be any form of screening before they secure admission.
For the avoidance of doubt, schools are going to still conduct screening for candidates. However, the method of screening will differ depending on the school.
Now you may wonder what's the big deal about scrapping post-UTME in the first place? The scrapping of post-UTME only means that schools are not to conduct screening exercises similar to JAMB UTME. Many schools screening exercises seem more like sitting for JAMB UTME again because the same subjects you sat for in JAMB UTME are what you are being tested on again. According to the education minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, that does not make sense.
So while schools were directed not to conduct screening exercises similar to JAMB UTME, they are at liberty toconduct other forms of screening for their candidates.
So if you have been whiling away time thinking that since post-UTME has been scrapped that there won't be any form of screening before you are admitted, you better wake up now and start preparing to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Post-UTME Examination Is Illegal And Unconstitutional – JAMB Registrar

Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Dibu Ojerinde has declared as ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘illegal’ the Post-UTME examination conducted by tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The JAMB boss added that the examination body was not responsible for scrapping the exercise adding that it was cancelled by the Minister of Education after due consultation.
He said these while featuring on Sunrise Daily, an early morning programme on Channels TV.
Noting that there is a difference between screening and test, he said that the initial agreement with institutions was to conduct screening exercise to determine their eligibility.
His words: “Nobody say you should not screen candidates. The screening involves checking of their certificates, subject combination, Jamb scores and other prerequisites to ensure that they meet up with the requirement. It is screening, not test.
“What government asked them to do right from the beginning is screening and not test. Former President Obasanjo said this when he was in power; ‘I did not ask you to conduct another exam, all I say is screen the candidates before they come in’ and that exactly is what the minister is talking about.”
Quoting some sections of the constitution, Ojerinde stressed further that the exercise is unconstitutional and has no legal basis.
“According to section 5, sub-section 1A of the constitution, the general control for the conduct of matriculation examination for admission into all the universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education or whatever name called is vested in JAMB.
“Section 5, sub-section 2 also states; the board shall be responsible for determining matriculation requirements and conducting examination leading to undergraduate admission and also for admission into National Dipoma and National Certificate in Education, NCE.”
Ojerinde said that a uniform screening process will soon be developed.

How To Screen Yourself Before The Admission Screening Day

Many candidates have been asking questions over how their schools of choice will conduct the 2016/2017 admission screening exercise.
Well, from observations so far, it seems schools are going to adopt various methods in screening their candidates.
Some may settle for oral screening, some results/document verification while others will make use of CBT or electronic format to screen their candidates depending on what they deem feasible.
Having noted this, it is necessary for candidates to prepare themselves and wait for whatever comes up.
Assuming your school of choice decides to screen candidates via oral interview; in that case, your communication skills is what will come under scrutiny. Don't forget this is not about using high sounding words. It is more about your ability to understand the question thrown at you and respond clearly without going off-point. You also need a certain level of confidence and boldness to convince your interviewer that you know what you are talking about.
Similarly, if your school of choice decides on screening candidates using result verification, what you need to do is ensure you have the necessary credit pass in the relevant subjects needed to study your course in the school
