UNIUYO Postgraduate Admission Form is Out – 2015/16

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Postgraduate Programmes of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), for the 2015/2016 academic session. List of available programmes is available here.
Duration of UNIUYO postgraduate Programmes.

1.All Full-time Master’s degree programmes last for a minimum period of four semesters and a maximum period of six semesters.
2.All Full-time Doctoral Programmes last for a minimum period of six semesters and a maximum period of ten semesters.
3.*. PGD in Education last for a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of four semesters for all full time students.
*.PGD in Engineering last for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters for all full time students.
*.PGD in Economics last for a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of four semesters for all full time students.
Candidates Eligible for UNIUYO postgraduate Programmes.
1.To qualify for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme, applicants should be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other University recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo, or persons who hold qualifications adjudged by the Senate of the University of Uyo to be equivalent to first degree or holders of recognized Higher National Diploma.
2.To qualify for admission into a Master’s degree programme, applicants should be graduates with not less than Second Class Honours degrees in the Lower Division with, (a) CGPA of 2.75 on a five-point scale, (B-) CGPA of 2.2 points on a four-points scale and (c) Second Class lower division (irrespective of CGPA) for the Master’s degree programme in Architecture. (d) Candidates for admission into M.Sc Medical Microbiology should be graduates of either of the following: (i) Microbiology with 2.75 CGPA (ii) Virology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology (PGDM) (iii) MBBCh/MBBS or its equivalent.
3.Applicants for admission into Doctoral Degree programmes should be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other University recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo, who possess Master’s degrees with dissertation and course work average, which should not be less than 60% (B-).

NOTE:
1.Applicants will be required to have credit pass at ‘O’ Level in five relevant subjects including English Language and Mathematics obtained at not more than two sittings. Candidates with ‘O’ Level examination results before 2010 must possess their certificates and not statement of results or result slips.
2.Applicants for LLM & Ph. D in Law must in addition to the above have credit passes in ‘O’ Level English Literature.
3.All applicants will be subjected to Screening Tests which dates would be published later.
4.NYSC Discharge or Exemption certificates must be submitted by all applicants.
5.Applicants who obtained their degrees through Remedial Programmes must show evidence of having remedied the relevant subjects for their programmes externally e. through WASCE, NECO, NABTEB.
6.In addition to other qualifications, applicants are expected to meet the departmental requirements for their programmes.

Applicants must return their completed forms with a Thesis/Dissertation Proposal captured on the prescribed Postgraduate School proposal sheet. Such proposals should capture the following: Title, Aim/Objectives, Relevance of Study, Methodology, Expected Results among others.

Candidates should remember to request at the time of purchase of the forms that their relevant academic transcript and letters of reference be forwarded to: The Secretary, Postgraduate School, University of Uyo, P.M.B. 1017, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Admissions will not normally be offered without transcripts and letters of reference.

METHOD OF APPLICATION:Application Forms can be obtained ONLINE on payment of the sum of N15,000.00 (Fifteen Thousand Naira) only. Obtain a Transaction receipt with a Pin code at the following Banks nationwide: Skye Bank Plc, WEMA Bank Plc, Ecobank Plc, and University of Uyo Microfinance Bank Ltd. Applicants should log on to http://www.uniuyo.edu.ng. Click on Postgraduate e-portal and follow the procedure.

CLOSING DATE:All completed Application forms with photocopies of relevant credentials and duplicate copy of receipt of payment for the application form should reach the Office of the Secretary, Postgraduate School not later than six weeks from the date of this publication. Applications received after the above deadline will not be considered.

This is to inform all the candidates that participated in the Kwara State University, KWASU 2015/2016 academic session post UTME screening exercise that the management of the institution has released the first natch admission list.
KWASU 1st admission list contains the names of candidates offered provisional admission into KWASU various undergraduate programmes for the 2015/2016 academic session.

The shortlisted candidates have met the requirements for admission into KWASU and are implored to attend Admission Screening Exercise at Kwara State University, Malete.

Requirements:
*.To be eligible for admission into the four-year disciplines and five or six-year professional programmes, candidates must possess a minimum of five credits at the GCE/WAEC, SSCE/NECO, or SSCE/NABTEB certificate examinations, which must include English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
In addition, candidates seeking admission into Law must possess at least a credit pass in Literature in English. Candidates awaiting GCE/NECO SSCE/WAEC SSCE/NABTEB results are also encouraged to apply provided the results would be available by September 2015 when the new session commences.
*.Candidtate may also seek admission into the 200 level of the degree programmes with the following qualifications:

UTME Requirement:
Candidates applying for admission are required to sit for the 2015/2016 UTME and obtain the prescribed cut-off marks. This is a statutory requirement for entry into Nigerian universities
Age:

Candidates who are above 22 years of age will not be deemed eligible for admission. Older candidates may be admitted under exceptional circumstances.

In Akwa Ibom Giant gully may swallow neglected Uyo School of Nursing and Midwifery

A water-worn ravine is threatening building at the state-ownedSchool of Nursing and Midwiferyin Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
The ravine, which widens with each rainfall, has eaten up the road and is close to the foundations of school building which
may cave in if nothing is done.
Last Thursday, students of the institutions abandoned their classrooms in one of the building closest to the gully.
They lamented government neglect and called for urgent action and the rainy season peaks.

One of the students, Grace Udoh, toldWorld Stagethat the immediate past governor, Godswill Akpabio, was insensitive to their plight.

"We have in the past continuously called on the government to come and rescue us from this unfortunate situation, but it's as if we're not part of the geographical entity called Akwa Ibom State," Udoh said.
"What if one day we were all in the the hostel or classroom and it finally falls into the ravine with all the students inside?
"Is that the time the government would come for action?"

She called on the new governor, Udom Emmanuel, declare a state of emergency in the school and avert a tragedy.9ja School Gist gathered team that the constant rain has left the hostels flooded, widening the ravine.

With some of the building reportedly showing cracks and faults and the rain not letting down, buildings may collapse.

Information Technology Nigeria needs 70,000 ICT graduates annually — Experts

Nigeria needs to produce between 30,000 and 70,000 information technology graduates every year to become a major player in the e-commerce and technology circles.
This was the position of experts who spoke at a two-day annualCisco Networking Academyconference held recently at theUniversity of Lagos(UNILAG).
According to them, the number of ICT graduates coming out from the country’s tertiary institutions cannot meet the needs of the economy.
Cisco’s General Manager Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone,Dare Ogunlade, said governments at all levels should deploy policy and training programmes to help solve the world’s fastest-growing gap in networking professionals.
“Specific programmes and targeted policies are needed to expand the total pool of qualified people in Nigeria, as well as globally," Ogunlade said.
"More effort is particularly needed to expand the pool of qualified networking talent by increasing the number of new networking employees (graduates); encouraging and enabling mid-career professionals to transition to ICT and networking; and increasing Nigeria’s total talent by encouraging immigration.”
He said with connectivity accelerating at a fast pace in Nigeria, there is a growing need for skilled ICT professionals which is not limited to Nigeria.
He however noted that the problem can be solved.
“Whilst this phenomenal growth highlights the presence of the IP networking gap, with dedicated public policy, specific training programmes, and public involvement on the part of governments, citizens and private enterprise, we can solve the talent gap," he added.

Quoting the INSEAD Business School’s Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2014, co-authored by Cisco, he noted that the global shortage of skilled IP networking professionals will be at least 1.2 million people in 2015.

Corporate Social Responsibility Bank donates bus, computers to Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji

Skye BankPlc has donated a 15-seater Toyota Hiace Bus and 25 branded HP Computer Workstations to the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State.
The Regional Manager, Ondo/Ekiti Region,Adesoye Yusuf,handed over the items to the Rector of the newly-established polytechnic, Prof.Emmanuel Fasakin, at a brief ceremony.
Yusuf said the donation was made as part of the bank's Corporate Social Responsibility to assist the institution take-off effectively.
"It is our culture to identify and partner with educational institutions, in the area of CSR and this is borne out of our belief that government should not be left alone in the business of providing social amenities," Yusuf said.
Fasakin thanked the bank and promised that the items would be put into judicious use
Representatives of the Ondo state government, community leaders and principal staff of the institution were at the event.

College Principal Impregnate 19-Year-Old Female Student In Jos

A Principal of the Federal Government College, FGC, Jos, Mr. Muhammad Manko, has been accused for allegedly impregnating a 19-year-old female student, Aisha.
The 19-year-old female student was alleged to have been impregnated by the Principal of the College.
However, the father of the victim has come out to refute the allegation. stating that his daughter, Aisha, an SSS 3 student, was handed over to the principal to be her guardian while in the boarding house.

According to him, the allegation is an attempt by detractors to defame the character of his daughter and that of the principal.
The girl’s father, Alhaji Suleiman Ahmad, explained that his family had a close relationship with the said Principal, adding that their daughter, Aisha, an SSS 3 student, was handed over to the principal to be her guardian while in the boarding house.

It would be recalled that some media houses, reported that the Principal of Federal Government College, FGC, Jos, had impregnated the student and offered to pay her dowry so she could become his wife.

Report also had it that the Parents Teachers Association, PTA, of the college was seeking the transfer and punitive measures against the principal, while some parents were thinking of taking their wards out of the college to avoid sexual harassment.

Alhaji Ahmad said: “When the school was on boarding, I made Muhammad to be her guardian, and up till now I made him to be her guardian, so I can say that a relationship exists between them, but not in area of marriage.

“I know that the principal is very much aware of the rule that says he cannot seek for marital relationship with any of his students and therefore, cannot talk of marrying my daughter.”

The protesting ASUU members who carried placards and chanted solidarity songs, took their protest to the Ekpoma Police Station, the Palace of Monarch of Ekpoma, the popular Market Square in the town to register their grievances.
The protesters lament that Dr. Paul Erie had spent days in the kidnappers’ den.
Chairman of ASUU, AAU Chapter, Prof. Fred Esumeh explained that the protest was to bring to the public domain once more of the unending spate of kidnapping of its members or spouses of members in Ekpoma and environs.

Sweet Death!! 76-Year-Old Retired School Principal Dies On Top 18-Year-Old Girl During s*x

76-yr-old retired school principal identified as Pa Alphonsus Dimgba, has reportedly died while exerting himself on an 18-year-old girl he was having s*x with.

According to reports, the incident occurred in a community in Enugu State where the old man who retired from a public school in Anambra State some years ago, had gone back to and became a community leader.

But his undoing, according to residents, was his love for anything in skirt, not sparing the young and the old, even the married women.

A resident of the community who sent in the report, said that Pa Dimgba, an elder in the local Catholic Church, was so fond of philandering with other women and had been caught several times and warned to desist from such acts but he always waved such away until the last ‘supper’ which sent him to the great beyond.

“It was in the early hours of the day when most people had gone to the farms and other businesses when we heard the girl screams. The screams were so loud and unending that it drew many people towards the direction of the screams and what we found out shocked everyone.

It happened in the girl’s father’s house. There we found Pa Dimgba sprawled Unclad on the floor, foaming in the mouth. Before he could be rushed to the hospital, he had given up the ghost.

The girl was handed over to the police and she confessed that it was not the first time she and the deceased had been having s*x and that while they were at it, her old lover suddenly developed a seizure and slumped to the floor.”

NECO 2015 GCE Registration Commences

The National Examinations Council (NECO) - Candidates Intending to register for the 2015 November/December NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) are hereby informed that registration will be strictly on-line using the NECO registration websitewww.mynecoexams.comRegistration can be done on the website at any time within the stipulated registration period. Passport Photograph will be required during on-line registration. The candidates passport photograph should NOT be more than SIX MONTHS old and must be of white background.

The registration fee includes cost for Biometric Data Capture, an Examination Ethics CD and Administrative Charges. Microsoft Youthspark Challenge FUTA student beats 2,000 Africans to win competition slot

An undergraduate at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Saviour Okusenogu has been named Africa's representative at the “Microsoft Youthspark Challenge for change contest”.
The Microsoft Corporation organized competition is aimed at encouraging young people to create and work on ideas that change the society for better using technology and will hold in Nicaragua, in August 2015.
Okusenogu, a student of Electrical/Electronic Engineering at FUTA, beat over 2,000 contestants from Africa to win a ticket to the global event.

His project, Become Inspired in Science and Engineering Technology (BISET), a non-profit organization he heads, won him the honour.
FUTA Vice Chancellor, Prof.Adebiyi Daramola, said Okusenogu's feat attests to the university’s quality.

Jos Sexual Assault FGC Principal did not impregnate my 17-yr-old daughter — Father

Reports that a 17-year-old female student ofFederal Government College, Jos, Aisha Suleiman, was impregnated by her principal is false, says the alleged victim’s father.
The Parents-Teachers’ Association (PTA) had last week accused the school principal,Mohammed Manko, of impregnating Aisha and called for his removal.
ButLeadershipreports that the girl's father, AlhajiSuleiman Ahmad, has described the allegations as falsehood intended “to tarnish the good character and image of his daughter, and her principal.”
“Aisha is very healthy and has not conceived any pregnancy, here is she as you can see, did you see any sign of pregnancy?” Ahmad said.
“I am challenging anybody that is alleging that my daughter is pregnant to come so that we take her for pregnancy test at the hospital.”
He also rubbished reports that he intends to marry off Aisha to the principal.
“When the school was a boarding (system), I made Muhammad her guardian, and up until now he is still her guardian, so I can say that, that is the relationship between them, but not the issue of marriage," the father added.
“I know that the principal is very much aware of the rule that says he cannot seek marital relationship with any of his students and, therefore, cannot venture into it.”
This development complicates the issue, following earlier comments attributed to Manko in which he admitted to having a relationship with the student.
While denying that he impregnated the girl, he had also offered to marry her.

OOU Tragedy Truck driver disappears after killing 11 students

Police are still searching for the driver who drove the truck that killed 11 undergraduates at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) last month.
The driver,, while driving against traffic along the Benin-Ore-Sagamu Highway on May 26, had rammed his truck in a bus conveying the students.
The container on the truck unlatched and fell on top of the bus, killing of the students instantly.
Only one, Akinbo Laughter Ibukun, survived the incident.
The unnamed driver fled the scene instantly and, almost two weeks after the tragedy, is still on the run.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson,Muyiwa Adejobi, toldPremium Timesthat the police is still on the trail of the driver, adding that the truck had been impounded and is still in custody.
OOU students had given the police a week ultimatum to find the driver and also demanded compensation for the victims' families.
The president of the Students’ Union Government of the university, Adenola Adegbesan, said the compensation will not bring back the deceased but will be useful to the families.
Adegbesan also urged the regulation of trucks movement on highways.
“I would like government to look into how they can reduce the number of heavy duty vehicles on the highways,” he said.
“The sheer number of trucks on the roads these days is alarming and they are always a disaster waiting to happen due to the drivers’ recklessness.”
Speaking last Wednesday at the scene of the accident, Governor Ibikunle Amosun said the state would look into how the Federal Highway Code would criminalize traffic offenses.

Batch ‘B’ NYSC Corps Members Protest Against Non-payment Of Allowance In Niger

Report reaching us has it that about 70 percent batch ‘B’ Corps members of 2014/2015 who were re-deployed to Niger State at the weekend, protested in Minna, the state capital, over alleged refusal of the state government to pay them their one- month allowances.

9ja School Gist Team learnt that some members who had just finished their service year at the weekend, took to the street to protest over non-payment of their August allowances due to them, alleging foul play by the officials of the board. They claimed that they were being owed N19,800 each, adding that only about 700 of them were paid.
Responding to Allegations, The Niger State Directorate of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Stephen Yusuf Ahoda stated that it could not pay about 70 per cent Batch B corps members of 2014\15, re-deployed to the state, their August allowances, due to activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the North eastern states.
Ahoda assured the aggrieved corps members that they would be paid soon, explaining that the non-payment was not deliberate.
Ahoda added that “nobody can take away corpers money and go free, the mistake was from their side because 800 of them were re-deployed to Niger State but 700 registered their names, and the payment from the headquarters considered that list for their payment.”
He urged them to wait in order to write there name in their handwriting while two of their representative would take the list to Abuja for their payment.
It will be recalled that in the last two years, corps members deployed to various states bedeviled by the activities of insurgents, were redeployed to other states of the federation, for their safety.
According to one of the protesting corps members, “They continued to give us assurance and hope that they will pay us. Today, after giving us our certificates, we were told that we did not come to the camp and the reason they refused to pay us.
“We will use even our last payment to get to the root of the matter because it is our legitimate right. Because they claimed that those who were not paid did not participate in the camp activities, though they asked us to write our names for payment. Few were paid leaving out others, and that is injustice because we were at the camp till the end.”

Lagos State University, LASU has postponed the First/Harmattan semester examination until further notice over inconclusive registration exercise by students.



The University Management hereby informs Students, Staff and Members of the University Community that the 2014/2105 Harmattan Semester Examination earlier scheduled to commence on Monday, July 6, 2015, has been postponed until further notice.

This is as a result of inconclusive registration exercise by students, which has affected the production of examination dockets, and the inability of the University Senate to meet in order to RATIFY the amended Academic Calendar which was executively approved on its behalf by the Vice Chancellor AND Chairman of Senate.

UNIBEN Graduate Killed And Buried By Father’s Business Client

Melancholy report reaching us has it that a 34-year-old graduate of the University of Benin, Identified as Enero Ukonga was abducted and killed by his father business client, Osaretin Enabulele.
Our corespondent gathered that the 34-year-old graduate of the University of Benin, Enero Ukonga, had just returned home after completing his Masters in Business Administration ,MBA, course in Turkey and was making an attempt to prepare for his PHD in the United States.

While he was in his Opebi, Lagos family home,one Osaretin Enabulele, accompanied by 4 others identified as Elisha Jonah, Kazeem Ibrahim, Charles Timinnemi, a Medical student in Romania who was on holiday and the fourth identified simply as Fred visited him.The lead man, Enabulele , an importer who resides in Benin city, Edo state, was said to have told Uknonga’s father, a retired Customs officer,who is a clearing and forwarding agent, on the phone, that he was bringing the original copy of the bill of laden of a 1 by 40 feet container, to facilitate its clearance from the Apapa Port in Lagos.
Enabulele was said to have requested Ukonga to follow him to the car to get the document for his father who was then in Benin city .
But apprehension reportedly set in after Ukonga’s friend(names withheld) reportedly waited in vain for his return. Curiously, he stepped out of the house to look for him but did not see him and didn’t see any of the visitors either.
However, as he searched for Ukonga, he reportedly stood still with his mouth open in shock, on seeing Ukonga’s pair of slippers in a disarrayed manner. Sensing trouble, he reportedly put a call to Ukonga’s phone only to discover it was switched off. Thereafter, he contacted his father who was in Benin city, to inform him of the ugly development before reporting the matter at the area ‘F’ division.
The police reportedly swung into action but their effort proved abortive. It was gathered that the case was transferred from area ‘’F ‘to the Special Anti Robbery Squad , SARS for further investigation. It was gathered that effort to reach the main suspect , Enabulele failed . Operatives were said to have travelled to the suspect’s home at 4, Ehigie street, off Aiaohan, Dumex road, Benin city, where his girlfriend and his brother were arrested but later released.
Preliminary investigation by operatives of SARS revealed that the main suspect had bolted to Ghana, following claims by some of his friends that he called them with a foreign number informing that he was in Ghana. But when the number was dialled, he reportedly did not pick his call. Investigation at SARS, lingered for six months without any headway.
Determined to unearth the mystery surrounding his son’s whereabouts, Mr Benjamin further lodged a complaint with the Department of Security Service ,DSS. This action paid off, as one of the men who reportedly visited that fateful day was arrested in January 2015, six months after.
He is Elisha Jonah. Jonah as gathered, was arrested mid January, through Enero Ukuoga’s stolen Black Berry phone. The phone was said to have been traced to a user in Ikeja, Lagos. By the time the user was arrested, he told the DSS operatives that he bought it from a friend. At the end , it was discovered that five persons had used the phone, with the seller traced to Jonah .
Jonah’s confessional statement reportedly led to the arrest of one Kasim Ibrahim, popularly called big daddy, on March 17, 2015.
During interrogation, the duo gave a starling disclosure of the whereabouts of the missing Ukonga . They revealed that he was dead and had been buried in a shallow grave at Abesan’s estate, Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos, close to Kazeem’s house.
When the cat was let out of the bag, Mr Ukuoga reportedly lost balance and slumped on one of the seats in the office of the DSS. By the time he came back, he reportedly gave a blank stare at the suspects , apparently trying to fathom their claim. When he managed to say a word, he reportedly started by asking amid tears “what on earth could have warranted such cruel act on an innocent person?
At this point, the DSS reportedly transferred the case to the Force Criminal Investigation Department headquarters annex in Alagbon, where operatives at the Homicide section reportedly led the suspects to the shallow grave in a bush at Iyana Ipaja, from where the body of Ukonga was exhumed.
To say that members of the family was devastated at the bizarre occurrence is to put it mildly, as words could not express the family’s mood .
Though the discovery plunged the family into a season of sorrow but it brought an end to the long search for their assumed missing son.
Asked what went wrong between Mr Benjamin Ukonga and the importer, Enabulele, who is still at large, the bereaved father explained, trying hard not to betray his emotion:
“ Enabulele was introduced to me by a family friend. Later, he contacted me in Benin, saying he had a one by 40 feet container to clear. We settled for N1.5 but he paid N1 million and we started processing the clearance. We paid the Customs duty and other necessary duties , remaining the shipping company which required the original bill of laden of the owner of the container.But to my surprise, he called, requesting for the refund of his money which was not possible because the job was 95% concluded.Later, he called to say he had the bill of laden and I told him to take it to my manager in Lagos. But because that day was a Saturday, my Manager asked him to drop the document at my house in Opebi. But we later discovered he had a sinister motive,following the adoption of my son. My son was never into clearing and forwarding. I was told he even suggested they waited till Monday to hand the document to my manager”.
On her part, Mrs Ukonga cried uncontrollable as she spoke with reporters. She started by saying that all the while her son was declared missing, she kept hoping he would walk in someday. But the recent revelation according to her has left her shattered.
She said:
“This is an act of wickedness in the highest order. My son was an innocent and obedient person. He was never a troublesome fellow. We never believed Osaretin Enabulele could be this callous! Ah! This is so aching ….”, she paused to blow her nose. Through out the period we were searching for him, I concluded they could have drugged him and abandoned him far away and that he could have strayed in the process”, she paused again. But this time around, she broke down in tears at the mere thought that she would never leave to see her son again.
But when the suspects were interrogated by operatives at Alagbon, they denied any knowledge of Ukonga’s death.
According to Kazeem:
“ We did not know how he died. On that day, Osareti Onabulele called Charles that he had a business deal in Ikeja and needed some help. Charles contacted Elisha who thereafter, contacted me. We went there, parked a Toyota Camry car owned by one of us, Elisha, who is Medical student in Romania , in front of the building. By the time Enero was bought out of his house into the car, Elisha was attending to an injury I sustained on the leg. When we got into the car, we discovered that he(Ukonga) was gasping”.
Asked how the body was buried in the shallow grave, the suspects alleged that Enabulele instructed them to bury him there, in order to avoid arrest.
As at Thursday, the whereabouts of Osareti Enabulele, the alleged mastermind, was still unknown. He was subsequently declared wanted. A gazette bulletin from the Force CID read:
“A warrant of arrest has been obtained from Magistrate Court, in Lagos state for his arrest. He is wanted for the offence of conspiracy and murder on the 19th July, 2014 at number 10, Ajanaku street off Salvation road, Opebi Lagos. “Method used in committing the offence is that the suspect with four others went to the above mentioned address, kidnapped the deceased , one Enero Ukonga and on their way to their destination, the deceased died on the road inside the vehicle” .
Part of the investigation as gathered, included a DNA test on the body , with a view to ascertaining whether it is that of Ukonga. The outcome of the result according to the Police would form their next line of investigation. The Police as gathered, have also written the shipping company not to release the container said to have been sent from Italy by one Kate Uwa, , until investigation is concluded.
The, FCIID, Public Relations Officer, Mr. Friday Achibong, who confirmed the incident, said Enabulele and others; Fred and Charles at large, are still been searched for.

EKSU 2015/2016 Post-UTME Form Out

Following the unfortunate ghastly motor accident involving some students of Olabisi Onabanjo University , the Management of the university at an emergency meeting held on Sunday, June 28, 2015 has directed that all examinations fixed for Monday, 29thJune and Tuesday, 30th2015 be rescheduled to other days which will be communicated to affected students at the appropriate time.

03Communication of Admission Decision to Applicant
The Admission Office notifies the student in writing of the application’s acceptance or non-acceptance. In the event that the application is rejected, the rejection letter explains the reasons for the rejection.

04Confirmation of Acceptance by Student
The successful admission candidate makes a refundable housing deposit of N50,000 by the stipulated date to reserve a Residence Hall space. A successful candidate must undergo a medical test by completing the medical form in an accredited hospital.

CIBN Collabo with UNILORIN on Degree Linkage

Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN to partner University of Ilorin, UNILORIN on degree linkage. UNILORIN will be among the first universities to commence the linkage programme.
The Unilorin – CIBN Joint Degree Linkage Committee has been inaugurated to midwife the Banking degree programme of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) at the University of Ilorin.
The CIBN President, Mrs. ‘Debola Osibogun, disclosed this last Monday (June 22, 2015) during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON).
Members of the committee from the University of Ilorin are: Prof. (Mrs.) N. Y. S. Ijaiya, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic); Prof. Ayodele Jimoh, the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences; and Dr. M. A. Ijaiya, the Ag. Head of the Department of Finance while the members from the CIBN are: Mr. Segun Shonubi, the Group Head, Membership Services; Mr. Akin Morakinyo, Group Head, Capacity Building and Certification; and Mr. Biodun Alarape, Zonal Coordinator, South West.
Mrs. Osibogun, who commended the University of Ilorin on its prime position among Nigerian universities by becoming the most sought-after of the nation’s 147 universities, pointed out that the CIBN is filling the knowledge gap that has been observed in the sector through the ACIB/degree linkages with higher institutions of learning.
She noted that the University of Ilorin is among the first universities to commence the linkage programme, adding that the CIBN programmes would help to produce “refined, qualified and better bankers.”
While thanking the Unilorin Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception accorded her and members of her entourage, the CIBN President recalled the event of November 28, 1963 when 124 bankers assembled at Randle Hall, Surulere, Lagos and passed a resolution for the establishment of the Local Centre of the Institute of Bankers, London, in Nigeria with the mandate of promoting banking education in Nigeria and esprit-de-corps among professional bankers.
She explained that the body is saddled with the responsibility of determining the standards of knowledge and skills to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the banking profession, adding that it also secures, in accordance with the provisions of the Act establishing it, the establishment and maintenance of a register of members of the banking profession.
Mrs. Osibogun also disclosed that the CIBN conducts professional examinations leading to the awards of certificates as may be prescribed by the Institute and ensures the furtherance, maintenance and observance of ethical standards and professionalism among practitioners of the banking profession in Nigeria.
She then used the occasion to invite lecturers in the Department of Banking and Finance and members of the University management to the Institute’s upcoming programmes that include Seminar for educators, Annual Conference of Banking and Finance Professionals, CIBN Investiture and the Annual Dinner. The programmes are scheduled to hold in November this year.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ambali, described the CIBN as a friend and a partner. He said that the University has great respect for the banking industry, which he noted, reflects in the allocation of a land space on the campus dedicated to banking activities.
Prof. Ambali said, “As a progressive institution, we grab every opportunity that comes our way to advance education. We are not only stable; we also offer qualitative education that is of international standard.”
On how to maintain the University’s number one position in Nigeria, the Vice-Chancellor opined that refining the good things the University is doing and improving the areas of deficiencies are the only ways to remain the number one university in the country.
“We want our students to abide by the ethics of their professions. We look forward to the successful implementation of our linkage programme, as we believe charity must begin at home. We are in support of anything that adds value to what we are doing”, Prof. Ambali said.
The CIBN President was accompanied on the visit by the Kwara State CIBN Branch chairperson, Mrs. Bolaji Bosede; the Group Head, Membership Services, Mr. Segun Shonubi, a Director, Chief G. A. Oyinloye; and the General Secretary, Mr. Jinadu H. Olayiwola.

44 UNIZIK Students Renounced Cultism

Just like the parable of the prodigal son in the bible, no fewer than 44 students yesterday, decided to turn a new leaf as they openly and willingly renounced every form of association with secret cultism at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The renunciation was made at the UNIZIK cult renunciation ceremony organized by the management of the institution and held at the convocation arena. The event according to the Director of Information and Public Relations of the university, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu was also aimed at dedicating the institution, the staff and students back to the almighty God.
The event, which was the second of its kind in the annals of the citadel of learning, was well attended by staff and students of the university and was graced by eminent clergymen within and outside the confines of the institution. Present at the event include the vice chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku and the wife Dr. Gladys Ahaneku; the deputy vice chancellor (Academics), Prof. Charles Esimone; deputy vice chancellor (Administration), Prof. Onyeyili; the registrar, Barr. C.C Okeke and Dean, Students Affairs, Prof. Ken Nwogu.
In his homily, the guest clergyman, Rev. Fr. Paul Obayi popularly known as “Okunerere” (consuming fire) stated that cultism is full of deceit and adds no value to the lives of members. Fr. Obayi who disclosed that he was once an occultist before being arrested by God, revealed that in cultism, one is bonded, imprisoned and freedom restricted.
Frowning at the rate youths are dabbling into cultism, the revered clergyman said, “It is an act of foolishness to join cultism. There is no gain in cultism, it is embedded in deception”. He further charged the students to desist from cultism and face their primary assignment in school, which is to read and pass with good grades to become better persons in the society, urging them to return to God, as He is the giver of wisdom.
High point of the occasion was a special deliverance session of the 44 persons made up of both sexes by the officiating priests Rev. Fr. Obayi assisted by Rev. Fr. Mario- David Dibie and Rev. Fr. Bonachristus Umeogu. During the session, about 21 more persons came out under the auction of the Holy Spirit.
In his remark, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Ahaneku, described the event as a spiritual irrigation geared towards total submission of the staff and students of the institution to God.
Prof. Ahaneku who was visibly overwhelmed and marveled at the number of those that renounced cultism as well as the turn out of the university community at the event, thanked them for allowing God take control of their lives. In his words, “We need God to give us the enabling power to take control in our society. Because we have submitted, God has prepared us for the journey ahead. Be assured that the university management is here to protect your interest” to achieve the best degrees with which you can contribute to the development of the Nigerian society.
What we have done today is to submit to God and it will be captured in the records of this university as we train you not only in learning but also in character”. He expressed optimism that the contact from God has touched the lives of all the students in the university.
Speaking to liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine, the chair, organizing committee and deputy vice chancellor (Academics) of the university, Prof. Esimone disclosed that the event is part of the resolve of the management of the institution to rid UNIZIK of all forms of secret cult activities and enthrone discipline and responsible studentship.

DELSU Bans Female Students From Wearing Of Miniskirts

Delta State University, Abraka Management on Saturday banned female students of the institution from wearing of miniskirts.

The VC also ordered the reduction of fellowship centres in the school from over 80 to four.

The school’s administration cites the reason for the change to be the distracting nature of the clothing articles for young male students during school time.
He said in the statement, “I have observed in the recent times that over 80 fellowship centres are on the three campuses. We cannot allow such. Fellowship centres have in recent time portended crisis that was almost unabated.”

The statement listed the four approved religious bodies to include Catholic, Anglican, Joint Christian Campus Fellowship and Our Saviours Chapel, as it indicated that there could be crisis among the students if the fellowship centres were not reduced.

UNIZIK Students Nab Thief During Night Class

Report reaching us has it that a student of sociology in Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) whose name cannot be ascertain at the time of filing this report was caught yesterday night at the faculty of management sciences where students often go for night class.

While some students go to the faculty of management to read, some unscrupulous fellows see it as an opportunity to steal.
The thief who claims to be a student of sociology was alleged to have stolen a phone and when an alarm was raised, he jumped down the story building and fled.
Some able bodied students followed suit and caught him. The security men were alerted and on arrival, the student was handed over to them.

In his possessions were phones, pack of cigarette, reading lamps and chargers. He confessed to the theft allegations.
This act of stealing has become prevalent at Management sciences and at Garba square where students read often.
Their modus operandi according to a security official in the school who wouldn’t want his name made public, is that they wait for students to sleep and immediately swing into action.

He advised students to always keep their phones and laptops at home if possible when coming for night class. He further advised them to be vigilant whenever they come to read.
