Very Inspiring story. Mudashiru Obasa, a politician representing Agege Constituency 1, who started his life as a street hawker who sold Nylon bags and wrist watches and later became a bus conductor and Laborer, all to eke a living while growing up in Lagos, today became the new speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly. "I grew up in the Papa Ashafa area of Agege and there is hardly anything I have not done to make money, except armed robbery. Maybe I was too young to be an armed robber, but talking about hustling, there is hardly any type I have not gone into. I did all this on my own volition and not because my father could not afford to pay my school fees, but the friends I grew up with were always in one engagement or another. We would go to Agege Motor Road to sell nylon bags.

Then, 12 nylon bags is half the price when we buy and you would make times two of the amount you invested. Within few hours, you would have sold an encouraging amount. I was once a bus conductor, I was a labourer…just mention it. For me, I don’t believe in staying idle and that is why when people approach me asking for assistance to help them pay their children’s school fees, their accommodation and others, I ask them who is going to pay the next one. So why don’t you find something to do? in kano-Student jailed for stealing 75 litres of diesel, other valuables

Kano magistrate court for allegedly stealing 75 litres of diesel and other items.

Sarki, a resident of Yakasai Quarters of Kano metropolis, appeared on Monday before magistrate Fauziyya Isa Sheshe on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.

According to the police First Information Report (FIR), Sarki, along with one Danfulani who is still at large, had on April 25, 2015, stolen four trailers’ batteries and 75 litres of diesel at Sharada Company Limited, located at Sharada Industrial Estate, Kano.

All items were valued at N115, 000.

The offence was said to contravene Sections 97, 349 and 287 of Penal Code Law.

Pleading guilty to the charges, the accused begged the judge to temper justice with mercy.

Following his plea, the prosecutor Mijinyawa Aluta applied for a date for summary trial of the accused person.

Magistrate Sheshe granted the application.

She adjourned the case to June 10 for trial and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.

NOUN Student arrested on fraud allegation

A student of the National Open University, Osogbo Study Centre, has been arrested for alleged fraud.

Olusola Akinlotan, a student of the National Open University, Osogbo Study Centre, has been arrested by the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for alleged fraud.

The NSCDC also arrested two other suspects who were members of a fraud syndicate; Olayiwola Oladayo and Bolarinwa Adebayo, a.k.a. Dodo.

Akinlotan, who was said to have abandoned his studies at the university when he was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, was, however, arrested on Monday when he approached NOUN to transfer his study centre to another location outside the state.

The suspect and other members of the gang were said to have been engaged in defrauding unsuspecting persons by arranging fake visas and travel documents for them.

According to a statement by the NSCDC, they duped an Enugu based businessman, Nnamchi Nichodemus, of a sum of N700,000 through a dubious travelling transaction in November 2014.

The businessman was said to have been tricked into paying the said money into an account belonging to Akinlotan, who was promised a sum of N105,000.

The NOUN student was said to have immediately gone to the bank to collect the money through the Automated Teller Machine and the counter. He allegedly handed over the balance to Oladayo for onward transmission to Adebayo a.k.a. Dodo.

The statement read, “Akinlotan, who was arrested within the premises of the 0pen university, while trying to process his transfer of study centre to another location outside Osun State, led the NSCDC to the hideouts of the other two suspects.

“Desperate to get off the hook, the suspects offered bribe to the NSCDC officers who arrested them, but they turned down the bribe in line with the principle of the corps.

“The suspects have since been handed over to the EFCC by the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Tajudeen Balogun, for prosecution.”

A student of Cardinal Hayes High School, Latrell Davis, has been banned from graduation for shouting “F*ck Jesus” at a Catholic Mass.
  

A student of Cardinal Hayes High School, Latrell Davis, has been banned from graduation for shouting “Fuck Jesus” at a Catholic Mass.

According to a Daily Caller report, Davis committed the crime on May 12 while the school was holding a Catholic Mass in an auditorium.

He passed by and loudly exclaimed “Fuck Jesus.”

The school says he Davis will be allowed to graduate but will not be allowed to attend his graduation ceremony, holding on Saturday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

His mother thinks the punishment is too much.

“I didn’t go to my own graduation, so I want to be proud to see my son graduate because he’s labelled as a statistic,” she said.

“Coming from an African-American teen mother, the odds were really against him.”

Davis has claimed that he was only asking a question when shouted.

“When I passed the auditorium door, I heard someone say, ‘F Jesus, and then I turned around, and the door was still open, and I repeated it, like questioning it," he said.

"So I was like, ‘F Jesus?'”

The school however claims that other students saw Davis actually enter the auditorium and loudly shout his sacrilege, adding that his ban from the graduation is “final.”

“Every educational institution must maintain discipline if true learning is to occur,” the school's tough discipline policy says.

Lagos State Polytechnic 30 students expelled for examination malpractice

At least 30 students of the Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH are on the institution’s expulsion list for examination malpractice.

Students of the School of Part-Time Studies Regular (SPTSR), Ikorodu main campus are writing their first semester examination.

It was gathered by PM News that the affected students in all departments have already been placed on expulsion list for engaging in exam malpractice in the course of writing their first semester examinations.

According to reports no exam day passes without students entering the examination hall with 'chips' or 'bullets' and they are usually being caught by the eagle eyed internal/external invigilators who are always on the lookout for cheats.

Last weekend, some students were seen begging their invigilators who caught them with microchips tuck in-between their thighs while some wrote answers on their palms with biro.

At the Olowogbowo Hall, a pregnant woman caught cheating was rolling on the floor, begging for mercy.

She was not the only one caught in that hall. Two other students were also caught cheating and were all given malpractice form to fill.

As the exam started, the students began to copy from prepared answers they had written on their palms before a senior lecturer from the Department of Mass Communication, whom students had always accused of having magical prowess for exposing cheats, accosted and caught them.

Just when he stepped in, he pointed at the three of them to stand up and show their palms and instantly, the pregnant woman fell on the floor to start begging for forgiveness, a plea the lecturer refused to heed.

The three victims had answers written on their palms with biro and when caught, they were asked to place their hands close to their faces and a snapshot was taken of them and were also instructed to stretch their hands forward for another snapshot before they were asked to continue with their work as a malpractice form was awaited.

The same episode took place at the School of Technology classroom 9. A HND1 student from the Department of Mass Communication was caught with what was described by fellow students as “extreme”.

The lady resumed for the semester two weeks before her first semester exam kicked off on 9 May.

She had no Continuous Assessment  in all the 8 courses offered in her class for this semester. She said her admission came late and she never knew academic activities had commenced since January and exam date was approaching.

It was discovered that she came with already prepared answers into the exam hall with two A-4 papers and the roving Alfa invigilator caught her and handed her over to the security officials who were around the hall.

A malpractice form was given to her to fill which she rejected and insisted that she should be forgiven as a first time offender.

After much arguments between the exam officials and the lady, the invigilator had to fill and sign the form on her behalf. This our reporter gathered,
would compound the fate that awaits her.

A student said that LASPOTECH is one of the terrible schools in Nigeria to enter the exam hall with prepared answers also known as ‘expo’.

“If you think you are smart and enter the exam hall with anything implicating, you will regret it and face the music. I really cannot say if they pray for students to enter the exam hall with ‘expo’ because the way they swoop on us inside the exam hall is something else.

“On Saturday, while we were writing our exam at the Computer Science Hall, a senior lecturer named Mr. Jerry came to our hall asking the internal invigilator if they had caught any student; that the outgoing rector was looking for whom to sign out.

“You can see why I said everything in this school looks like planned work? How can such a radical statement come from a man old enough to father many of us inside the exam hall?”

LASPOTECH operates a system where any student caught is never invited to face a panel on time, but allowed to pay school fees until he is approaching the final year before he would be invited to face exam committee.

If you are lucky, which is very unlikely, you get a slap on the wrist and where the odds are against you, which is mostly the case, you are asked to leave the school after wasting money and time.

P.M.NEWS Campus Square gathered that 20 students were sent packing from the school three semesters ago over exam malpractice. The students who were caught by invigilators during the examination were kept in the dark for more than two semesters before they were sent out of the school. Some of the students who were involved claimed that they were not given fair hearing while some claimed that they never faced any examination malpractice panel.

According to Anthony Iraya, a second year Mass Communication student, “I was caught with a piece of paper on the day we were writing Citizenship Education 2 last year. I tried to explain myself to the female invigilator that I wasn’t doing anything with the paper I was caught with but she wouldn’t listen to my explanation.

“The paper that I was caught with belongs to me but it happened that I forgot to dispose of it before entering the exam hall. It was during revision with other students that I was noting some points on the said piece of paper but never knew that the paper got stuck in-between my exam card and I went inside the exam hall with the paper.”

Anthony further said he never expected the fate that befell him because the woman who caught him promised to make him repeat the course. He said he consequently failed the course and was sent away from the school without any fair hearing.

It was gathered that he paid N110,000 for his National Diploma 1 and had already bought textbooks for his National Diploma 2 before receiving the news of his expulsion.

Odejimi Olufela who was also affected has since stayed away from the school premises after being told of the latest development.

Another female student from the same Department of Mass Communication simply identified as Abbey was said to have been involved in a case of impersonation.

A Higher National Diploma 3 student was said to have sat for the exam on her behalf on the day she wrote her Yoruba examination. The student who sat for her was caught by a senior lecturer who claimed the student was not supposed to be in the hall for the course.

The impersonator refused to disclose the identity of the person he was sitting for until he got his own letter of expulsion.

A senior lecturer who does not want his name mentioned, said the students were lucky the school decided their fate on time. He cited an instance where the school did not say anything and waited until the student was preparing for his graduation before a letter was handed over to him.

RSUST  Postgraduate Programmes – Admission Requirements.

Applicants with the qualifications in the underlisted categories shall be eligible for admission into the postgraduate programmes; however, candidates must fulfill the matriculation requirements of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMAS

Holders of a Third Class Degree in the subject area applied for or a Second Class (Lower Division) degree in a related discipline obtained from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other recognized Institution or equivalent status,
Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least lower credit classification or its equivalent in a related discipline, obtained from a recognized Institution.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES

A candidate seeking admission into the Full-time/Part-time Master’s degree programme must possess a Bachelor degree with at least Second Class Division in the relevant discipline.
A candidate who holds PGD, PGDE or PGDTE with CGPA of 3.50 or above in the relevant discipline may apply for the Master’s Programme.
Candidates for the M.Ed. degree programmes offered in the Faculty of Technical and Science Education should possess EITHER a good Bachelor’s degree (not lower than Second Class Division) in a relevant teaching subject OR Higher National Diploma or its equivalent with at least lower credit classification in addition to PGDE or PGDTE with a CGPA of 3.50 obtained from this University or any other recognized institution.
PhD PROGRAMMES

A candidate for a PhD programme shall possess a Master’s degree with a CGPA of 3.50 or above, on a five-point grade system, in a relevant discipline obtained from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other recognized institution of higher learning of equivalent status present himself or herself for a qualifying interview, if need be.

A candidate for a PhD programme in the Faculty of Management Sciences must possess a Master’s degree with a CGPA of 3.50 or above in the relevant discipline. Holders of Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degrees can only be considered for admission into the relevant Master of Science (M.Sc.) programmes.
No person shall be admitted to a programme unless his/her application has been approved by the Postgraduate School Board on behalf of Senate and on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Committee. Every applicant shall submit with his/her application the following:

Copies of certificates and certified academic transcripts.
Letter of reference from previous academic institution, stating in support of (i) that applicant is qualified to undertake advanced studies and research and that he (the Referee) is confident that the applicant will benefit from undertaking the programme.
Note: In addition to the conditions above, a candidate may be required to present himself/herself for a selection test and/or oral interview.

RSUST  Postgraduate Programmes – Duration.

The full-time Postgraduate Diploma programmes run for a duration of two semesters (minimum) and four semesters (maximum) with or without project writing.
The full-time Postgraduate Diploma programme in Engineering runs for a duration of three semesters (minimum) and six semesters (maximum) with project writing.

The full-time Master’s Degree Programme with dissertation is structured to last for a minimum of two Semesters and a maximum of four
The full-time Master’s Degree Programme with dissertation in Faculty of Engineering is structured to last for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six
The full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme with Thesis runs for six semesters (minimum) and eight semesters (maximum).
Part-time studies usually take twice the duration allowed for full-time programmes. However, the part-time PhD programmes last for ten semesters (minimum) and twelve semesters (maximum).
RSUST  Postgraduate Programmes – Method of Application.

Applications for admission to any Postgraduate programme shall be made on line by logging onto www.ust.edu.ng and e-payment of twenty-five thousand naira (N25,000.00) only, using interswitch verve enabled cards. Application forms should be completed on-line, downloaded and hard copies submitted to the Secretary, Postgraduate School along with photocopies of certificates.

For PhD applicants, brief research proposals on their intended areas of study should also accompany the application forms. It is the responsibility of applicants to ensure that copies of their academic transcripts are forwarded under cover directly to the Secretary, Postgraduate School, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt.

What is UNILAG On-Campus Recruitment Drive About?

The exercise is aimed at creating a platform for Human Resources Departments of various organizations to interact with final year students of the University, for job placement after graduation. Some of the organizations include: Access Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank, McKinsey and Company, Unilever Nigeria Plc, PZ Cussons, Akintola Williams Deloite, KPMG, Procter and Gamble Nigeria Ltd e.t.c.

The exercise includes the following stages:

Stage one: Writing letters to various organizations for the recruitment of final year students for internship and job placement after graduation.
Stage two: Meeting with the organizations to discuss the modalities for the recruitment exercise.
Stage three: Forwarding of lists of final year students for shortlisting.
Stage four: Facilitating career talks and job aptitude tests.

Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), School of Postgraduate Studies, invite applications from suitably qualified candidates from recognized institutions for admission into the various Postgraduate programmes offered by the institution for the 2015/2016 academic session on full-time and Part-Time basis.

UNILAG Postgraduate – Available Programmes.

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes (PGD).
Masters Degree Programmes (i.e. M.Sc., M.Ed., M.A., LL.M, etc).
Professional Masters Degree Programmes (i.e. MBA, MILD, MILR, MPH, MDSS, MPIA, MPA, MGIS, etc).
Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes.
There is flexibility in the mode of study with Full-Time, Part-Time, Executive and Sandwich options as applicable.

UNILAG Postgraduate Admission – General Requirements.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS PGD & M.Sc.

An applicant for admission to a programme shall be:

1. Must possess a Bachelors’s degree of this University or any approved University;

2. A person who holds other qualification(s) recognized by senate of the University of Lagos;

3. In addition to (i) and (ii) above, an applicant may be required, as a condition for admission, to undergo a selection process in the form of written and/or oral examinations.

NOTES:

1. (i) Candidates who have not completed the National Youth Service Corps programme or currently undergoing a Postgraduate programme need not apply. Such applicants will be automatically disqualified.

2. Candidates awaiting Bachelor’s degree results need not apply.

3. A holder of Degree obtained from an Outreach/Satellite are not eligible to apply.

4. All academic transcripts must reach the Deputy Registrar/Administrative Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies on or before the start of the session admission is being sought.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS for M.Phil and Ph.D

Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil)
To qualify for admission to the above programme:

(i) Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s honours degree from this University or any other approved University with at least a Second Class (Upper Division).

(ii) Candidates with a Master’s degree with a minimum of CGPA of at least 3.50.

(iii) All candidates to the M.Phil. programmes must contact the respective department for availability of supervisors before applying.

(iv) The candidate may be required to undergo a selection process as determined by the respective department.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

(i) A candidate who has obtained the degree of Master of Philosophy must have a minimum CGPA of 4.0.

(ii) A candidate who has obtained the degree of Masters of Science must have a minimum CGPA of 4.0.

(iii) Candidates must clear with the respective Departments as to the availability of vacancies/supervisors before applying.

(iv) All candidates may be required to undergo a selection process as may be determined by the department.

WAEC Official Says CBT Not Feasible for Now

West African Examinations Council, WAEC will not be adopt Computer Based Test (CBT) mode due to lack of some variables that are necessary for the adoption. “Problems such as inadequacy of internet connectivity and constant electricity in the country, especially in rural areas, would make such a venture almost impossible.”



The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday said that it would not adopt the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode fully for now, considering the variables involved in conducting its examinations.

WAEC’s Head of National Office (HNO), Dr Charles Eguridu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the CBT mode being demanded by some people was not feasible for now.

NAN reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB-) had, during its 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) recently, migrated fully to the CBT mode.

JAMB said that it migrated to the CBT mode to eradicate impersonation and other forms of examination malpractice.

According to Eguridu, those making the call are ignorant of the socioeconomic variables that are necessary for the adoption of the CBT for WAEC examinations.

He said: “WAEC examinations involve the use of multiple choice questions, essay and practical, in which case we test various domains of learning.

“And with this, it is not going to be valid to test certain domains of learning with CBT.

“Or can you use CBT in measuring proficiency in certain trade subjects such as carpentry and others? ’’

The official said that the inadequacy of internet connectivity and constant electricity in the country, especially in rural areas, would make such a venture almost impossible.

Eguridu said that the huge capital outlay that would be required to provide computers and its accessories for every candidate nationwide makes the cost of the venture prohibitive.

“All what I am trying to explain here is that it will not be possible for us to adopt the CBT mode for our examinations at least for now.

“Probably what we will do as an organisation is to adopt the CBT for certain aspects of our examination and not all the areas.

“ We are already trying to work out something based on that,’’ he said.

How did celebrating virgins come about?

At a point, I started thinking of our old people in this country, so I published ‘Fragile Fit’, a magazine that was dealing with weak limbs of the elderly. Alhaji Lateef Jakande loved it and said the publication was even over due. As I was doing that, I dreamt 11 times where I organised ‘Recognising and encouraging the virgins in Nigeria’. That is how I started the project in 2007.

Why has there not been consistency in organising the annual event?

I spoke to the who-is-who in this country for sponsorship such Princess Erelu Dosunmu, Late Ambassador Segun Olusola and many others. A lot of them indicated their interest to help but we did not get sponsors except for the owner of Emily Millionaire cosmetics, Joe Brown, who was giving us cosmetics.

Rado was giving us wrist watches to distribute to the virgins. The one that really touched me was the help we got from the former Arch Bishop of Lagos, Diocese, Olubumni Okogie (rtrd). I am glad he appreciated that we are doing something good.

We wrote a letter to the Lagos State Government but didn’t receive a reply but they gave us the Banquet Hall where the event took place. Financially, an important personality in the Lagos State Government gave us N250,000 in 2009. We would also like to collaborate with NACA. This project is supposed to be a collective responsibility of every Nigerian.

In spite of the challenges we are facing in organising the annual celebration, a lot of virgins came from Enugu, Aba, Delta, Onitsha, Port Harcourt, Lagos, Kaduna, Kano and Abuja. I even sold my house in Ikorodu, Lagos to host and encourage virgins. We also got threatening phone calls from some highly placed men in society threatening to kill me if I did not stop celebrating virgins. They said I am disturbing their fun.


So what changed your mind?

For years, I was walking like a living corpse because I could not continue to host the annual event for virgins. It is unfortunate.

To see a virgin in the modern day Nigeria is not common. How do you ascertain their virginity?

A gynaecologist, Dr. Naheem-Deen Ekemode, who has practised for more than 40 years, was doing that for us. Within a second, he will know whether someone is a virgin or not but some parents started frowning about it.

But are there still virgins amongst ladies of marriageable age?

I have virgins even in my home. My own daughter got married as a virgin at 29. There are many virgins in this country but they are shy to come out because their wayward friends mock at them. They call them fools because they want to spoil their lives before marriage and there is nothing more interesting and good one would be proud of than keeping one’s virginity. In fact, God loves it because I heard the voice several times, urging me to go and encourage virgins and I will not stop it till my demise.

Most men complain that marrying a virgin gives them concern. To them, it is like relating with somebody who cannot satisfy them sexually.

They are saying it because they are in doubt of the authenticity of our claim that there are still virgins. They know that if they marry a virgin, they have assurance that they are marrying somebody who has not tampered with her womb or who has not contracted sexually transmitted diseases. You cannot compare used engine with a brand new one. Men are not realistic. All these they are talking that it is difficult to get virgins is not true. Some men will use these girls, de-flower some of them and at the end of the day, they will jilt them and run after another girl.

We are in year of 21st Century with internet associated sexual activities. How do we check that?

Our business is to encourage virginity, to wake up parents and tell them to make a change in life of a girl in their hands. It is like Sodom and Gomorrah. Men will do it and go free, although some of them will contract virgins and won’t be able to impregnate their wife. Men too should remain virgins till they marry. In pre-marital sex, men will waste important children including presidents in their body before getting married.

What do you teach these girls?

How to keep away from the prying eyes of their uncles, teachers, lecturers and friends. We will teach them how to minimise going to places where they will put something in their drink and rape them.

But how long can one remain a virgin?

It is not good to remain a virgin till above 30 years. When you are in your 20s, pray and ask God to give you a husband. Don’t go in the late hours. I have a 21-year-old virgin living with me. I always advise her to keep her virginity.

Have you ever been challenged because of this project?

I have got a lot of embarrassing questions and comments but I am not perturbed.

Some people sent me text messages and some of them called me and said that I am crazy. One of them said, “Why are you blocking us from enjoying the virgins God made available for us?”

What are the criteria for winning the first prize at the Miss Virginity Contest?

The intellectual prowess, legs, faces and carriage are parts of the criteria. We are more interested in the beauty from inside so we want to know how intelligent they are.

Buhari Addresses NYSC Members At Swearing-In Ceremony

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday addressed members of the NYSC urging them to cooperate with his government in the fight against corruption. And not only.


The country leader spoke on June 4, Thursday, at the National Youths Service Corps orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos state, Vanguard reports.

Buhari delivered speech through Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos state governor, who was on his part represented by aide Aderemi Desalu.

Buhari stressed the importance of the occasion, which was the first swearing-in of the NYSC members for one-year service under his administration.

“My dear compatriots, the time has come for us as responsible citizens to come to terms with the prevailing realities in our national life. Without doubt, the current situation in our country calls for unity, commitment and hard work to help its development.

“As we have promised Nigerians, my administration will soon unveil a comprehensive National Youths Empowerment Programme, anchored on the model provided by the NYSC scheme, our goal is to comprehensively address youth unemployment, insecurity and other social vices prevalent among our youths.

“Let me assure you all that change for us is not just a political slogan, it is the dawn of new order, sough for by majority of our people. The true change we desire must start with everyone of us, especially you, the Nigerian youths.

“On our part, we are prepared and determined to lead the nation with sincerity of purpose. We will continue to support and encourage corps members and the NYSC scheme by quick intervention and fulfilment of statutory obligations at all tiers of government.

“Corps members must be ready to participate fully and join hands with all Nigerians to fight the scourge of corruption. I call on you to cultivate the spirit of hard work and selfless service.”

Five Die After Attending Naming Ceremony In Lagos

Five people have been killed in the Ajah area of Lagos state by unknown hoodlums suspected to be working for a political party in the state.


According to Punch report, the victims were returning from a naming ceremony on June 3, Wednesday, when the hoodlums waylaid them and opened fire on their bus.

They also slit the throats of some of the bus occupants with cutlasses and knives.

Those who lost their lives were identified as Ganiyu Lawal, aka Ebe; Idris Kolapo; Samsudeen Osoja, aka Songa; Rafiu, aka Ralph; and Ladi.

Five others managed to escape with injuries.

The deceased and survivors were said to be working with the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Oyebanji branch, Lagos Island, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle (aka Seego).

Trouble was said to have started on Sunday when Seego and the leader of a rival gang, Tunde (aka Yellow) met at a function. “During the event, he sighted Yellow and asked him to bow to him. When the latter refused, he became angry and ordered his boys to deal with him. Yellow was beaten and his clothes torn by Songa, who works for Seego,” a source said.

Another source identified as Pepe John said, on the day of the incident, the wife of one of the boys in Ajah had a naming ceremony and men from Seego’s group went there to party.

He said: “As they left after the party, a group of boys shot at their vehicle. They entered the bus and started slashing their throats.”

The head of Songa, who beat up Yellow, was reportedly cut off by the attackers and they took the head away with them, but left the other corpses.

Those who managed to escape later identified their identified their alleged attackers to include Tunde Yellow, Small Kuramo, Sharon, Abbas, Olokodana, Ade, Ibafo John, Orji Mass, Baba Raji and one Ejo Ilaje.

The incident led to chaos in the area as more than 100 hoodlums took to the street on Thursday, searching for the men for their alleged involvement in the killings. They burnt properties, firing shots in the air.

The police later arrived and were said to be arresting innocent people.

Confirming the incident, Kenneth Nwosu, the police public relations officer, said only two people died while three others sustained injuries.

7-feet Cobra Scares Students At ABU Hostel

Palpable fear has gripped the students of  Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria following a 7-feet long cobra sneaked into Room 49, scaring students of the hostel.



An eyewitness, who did not want his name in print, confirmed that the snake was seen shortly after Isha’i prayer by a student lying on his bed.
“The snake might have come through the thick bush at the back of the hostel,” he said.
The snake was killed through the combined efforts of the occupants of the room and others.


A student, Mr. Ibrahim, said: “It’s a sad event, just a coincidence people will say. But one of the factors that could be responsible for the development is the lack of light in the hostel.
“It would have been disastrous had the cobra bitten somebody. I am appealing for constant supply of electricity to hostels.”
Another student, Ben, residing at ICSA, added: “The ICSA/RAMAT Hostel is located at the outskirt of the school and surrounded by bush. One would not have expected this kind of snake, very big snake, to sneak into our room.”
He appealed to the school authority to guard against similar incidence.
“Although, the management has been doing its best to ensure constant electricity supply to hostels, more needs to be done,” he said.

UNN Students Feared Dead In Nasty Car Accident

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka has been thrown into mourning following the death of some students who lost their lives in a horror road smash.

The students as gathered by liveschoolnews.com.ng were traveling home after the University authorities ordered them out of hostels.

It would be recalls that the University was suddenly shut down on Monday, a move believed to have been aimed at averting a planned riot by the students who had suffered acute water scarcity for over three weeks.



The gory incident occurred at the Nsukka-9th Mile Express way.

Although the Enugu State Police Command put the death figure at three, eyewitness account said the number is higher.

In a statement by the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, he said “three persons have been confirmed dead while five others sustained various degrees of injuries”.

He added that “the auto crash, involves a diesel truck with registration number AWK 311 XB, which is believed to have lost control as a result of suspected brake failure and had hit two buses with registration numbers UWN 406 XA and UWN 57 XA and also a motorcycle.

“The injured are being attended to at our Saviour Hospital, 9th Mile corner Ngwo, while the dead bodies are also deposited at the same hospital mortuary”.

A student, who was traveling when the accident occurred blamed the University authority for the development.

“It was very sad to see our fellow students die like that; we were chased out of school and now they have also been forced out of the world. This would not have occurred if we were not ordered out of school”, he lamented.

NYSC Members Recruited For Prostitution In Minna

Disgusting report reveals how a cartel in Minna, the Niger State capital, has turned National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp into a recruitment ground for “young prostitutes.”

The cartel, according to findings, consists of elitist group; politicians, journalists with the active connivance of some NYSC officials, who approve the requests of the cartel to post selected female Corps members to a particular government agency, boards and parastatals.

The unsuspecting female Corps members soon succumb to their wishes after promises of not only posting them to Government House or choice areas with mouth-watering incentives, including furnishing house for them to stay throughout the duration of their one year national service for sexual satisfaction.



Selected/recruited Corps members by the cartel from the Paiko NYSC Camp are always included on the list of those posted to serve in the Protocol Department, Government House to cover their tracks, the source said.

As a way of rewarding the girls, parties to celebrate birthdays by each of them are organised if they wished, end of their service year is usually celebrated for them as they are quickly replaced with new intakes almost immediately by the cartel, the source said.

To avoid the prying eyes of unsuspecting public, the male partners under the cover of being part of the Government House Corpers’ lodge behind the Idris Legbo Kutigi International conference centre, Minna visit their partners in the unholy act at odd hours.

Investigations reveal that the dislodgement of the journalists and their politician collaborators from the Government House Corpers’ Lodge began when they started having issues among themselves and their activities became an open secret. This, the source said, almost cost one of the protocol officers in government house his job.

Reacting to the developments in an interview, Niger State NYSC coordinator, Mr. Steven Ehoda-Adi, said that he was not aware of any such cartel existing in the state.

Steven however told our correspondent that the NYSC in the state ensures proper documentations for Corps members deployed to government and recognized corperate organizations when it becomes absolutely necessary with reasons in accordance with the laws establishing the NYSC.

Steven however added that the NYSC has little or no control over the private life of Corps members. He said, “I am not aware of any cartel recruiting Corps members for the purpose of prostitution. I am rather shocked hearing that some of your colleagues, journalists are actively involved in this unholy act”.

Ambali said, “The University of Ilorin was the first to start CBT and I am glad that it is being embraced nationwide, especially by JAMB.

“So, let us give JAMB a couple of trials and once the board restores confidence in the system, many universities may review the need for their post-JAMB. But in the meantime, we will continue to watch JAMB to see how consistent it would be in handling its CBT.”

Federal Polytechnic Offa ND Part-time – Entry Requirements.

The entry requirements for all National Diploma (ND) programmes are as follows:
SSC, GCE O’Level, NTC/NBC (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB O’Level exams) O’Level with at least five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects including English Language & Mathematics obtained at not more than two (2) sittings.

Federal Polytechnic Offa ND Part-time – Method of Application.

To apply on-line for Part-Time ND programmes, candidates are to visit the Polytechnic website www.fpo.edu.ng, click on admission to fill application form, and thereafter make payment of Ten Thousand naira with an ATM card that is inter switch compatible.

Please note that any false data entry during the online registration will lead to disqualification of the candidate at any time so discovered.

Federal Polytechnic Offa ND Part-time – Closing and Entrance Exam Dates.

Submission of application form closes on Friday 31st July, 2015.

Candidates for HND; ND & HND Part-Time and Pre-ND seeking admission into Federal Polytechnic, Offa are required to write an online screening examination from 4th to 18th August, 2015.

Universities Approved For Part-time Programmes By NUC

Here is the list of Universities that have been approved to run Part-time / Sandwich programme by the National Universities Commission (NUC). This list was released by the NUC in their latest bulletin published 1st June, 2015 on their website. You would recall that the NUC had earlier asked all Universities running Part-time and sandwich programmes in Nigeria to stop. They later called on schools who were still interested in the programme to re-apply for approval.



Up to date, a total of thirty six (36) universities forwarded their completed documents, based on the approved format. Following the analysis of the submissions by the Department of Academic Standards and having satisfied the laid down guidelines for running Part – Time programme and Sandwich courses in Nigerian universities, all the thirty six (36) institutions were recommended to the Executive Secretary for approval. Consequent upon Executive Secretary’s approval, letters were communicated to the universities accordingly.

Unprotected sex is sexual intercourse without the use of a barrier method of contraception. This can be either the male or the female condom. Unprotected sexual intercourse increases the risk of contacting/ transmitting HIV, STD and unwanted pregnancy. I have seen a lot of people overwhelmed with anxiety after having unprotected sexual intercourse with some indulging in acts that does not only sound ridiculous but also increases their chance of contacting STD or even affecting their health adversely. Douching is one of such. Generally, women are discouraged from douching because it alters the normal bacteria flora of the vagina which keeps it healthy and free from invading pathogens. If you douche after sex, it increases the chance of contacting STD and it doesn’t prevent pregnancy and HIV infection.

Myths like ingestion of herbal medicines, insertion of caustic soda, ingesting OTCs like ampicillin and aspirin have not been proven scientifically to be effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies and infection with STD. In this article, we will review on things you must do if you have unprotected sex.



1. Take Emergency contraceptive pills

This is one of the surest ways of preventing unwanted pregnancy after having unprotected sexual intercourse. You will have to take emergency contraceptives in form of emergency contraceptives pills. Emergency contraceptive pills also referred to as morning after pills are is used to prevent pregnancy. There can be obtained with a doctor’s prescription or as an over the counter drug (OTC) in drug stores. A commonly used form of EC is Postinor 2® which is taken within 72 hours after having unprotected sexual intercourse. It contains Levonorgestrel which is a synthetic form of a female reproductive hormone that prevents implantation hence pregnancy doesn’t occur.

2. Ask for an Intra-Uterine Device (IUD)

If after 72 hours, then you must contact your health care provider for an emergency IUD. IUD is tiny rod-like devices inserted into the uterus (womB-) by your doctor. There distort cervical mucus and prevents the implantation of the egg. If inserted properly and within 5 days, it is highly effective with an efficacy rate of about 98%. It is important to note that EC and IUD don’t give any protection nor prevent STD and HIV infection.

3. Test for STD and HIV

Fears of infection with STD or the dreaded killer disease HIV is heightened after unprotected sexual intercourse. It is mandatory that you test to screen for STD and HIV. If possible, such test should be conducted with your sexual partner. STD to be tested for includes Hepatitis B and C, gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia. This can be carried out with blood samples or via a vaginal/ penile swab. However, results gotten from an early test are inconclusive hence test must be repeated after 6 months for cases of HIV and Hepatitis. Testing after having unprotected sexual intercourse allays fear/ anxiety and increases the chance of early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted disease.

4. Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

PEP is essential after a high risk unprotected sexual intercourse. This includes cases of rape by an unknown assailant, sexual intercourse with an individual living with HIV or unprotected sexual intercourse with a partner with known multiple sexual partners. You must visit a health facility that provides such services and after counseling and series of test, you will be commenced on PEP for a duration of one month. The drugs have been noted to be 99% effective in preventing HIV if commenced within 72 hours. PEP provides protection against HIV but not to other STD. However, you will have to do another HIV test after 6 months to be declared free from the deadly disease.

5. Keep calm and watch for symptoms

Unprotected sex may happen unexpectedly or as a result of carelessness from both partners. Once it has occurred, there is little of no need for panic. You should keep calm and watch out for symptoms after undergoing the initial screening test for STD and HIV. Symptoms make take 2 weeks or more to manifest. If after unprotected sex, you begin to experience vaginal itching, vaginal or penile discharge, severe burning pain on urinating, sores or ulcers around your external genitals then it is advisable that you consult your doctor for further evaluation and treatment.
