Okada Crushes 300L BSU Student To Death (Photo)

The Benue State University, Makurdi community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a 300L student of the geography department who was on Thursday crushed to death on his way from school.
Liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine gathered that the student, simply identified as Samuel Agbajir was knocked down by a motorcycle, famously known as okada while trying to cross the road.
The incident, according to eyewitness happened on after the second gate of the institution when the deceased and his friends left school for home.
Late Samuel Agbajir
“He was rushed to the teaching hospital but the doctor confirmed him dead on arrival,” a source told our reporter.
This was contrary to the report that he was crushed to death while jubilating after graduation.
Speaking with our correspondent, a friend who gave his name as Ireogbu, debunked the claims that the late Agbajir was a member of the black axe fraternity who was killed while jubilating after graduation.
“People are just posting rubbish to get comments on social media. First, the late Samuel is a 300L student and not a fresh graduate. He was never jubilating as widely claimed. Samuel is not a cultist and has never been a member of any such group. He was a gentle, kind and intelligent guy. May his soul rest in peace.

Beware Of Fraudsters, OAU Warns Admission Seekers

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, on Thursday called parents and guardians of candidates, seeking admission into the institution to be wary of fraudsters who parade themselves as our admission officers in the university.
A release signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the university, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju stated that one of such fraudsters who claimed to be the admission officer of the institution, identified as Omodele Taiwo had been arrested by the security operatives of the university.
According to the release, Omodele had already N600,000 from two parents seeking admission into OAU for their children.
It reads in part, “Omodele’s attempt N100,000 from his two victims, who are parents of the two candidates (names withheld) eventually led to his arrest upon interrogation, he admitted committing the crime and collecting the money, but blamed the devil for pushing him into the act”.
“In view of this, OAU management wishes to emphasise that we do not ask parents, guardians or candidates to pay for admission, nor do we ask them to pay into individuals’ bank account to secure admission,” the release added.
Accordingly, the university spokesman advised parents and guardians of candidates seeking admission into OAU not to be too desperate to be looking for shortcut, so that they would not be falling victims of fraudsters who disguises as admission officers.

LASU Female student dies after drinking mixed liquor

A female student of the Lagos State University has reportedly lost her life after consuming mixed liqour.
Lara Omowunmi Gbadeyanreportedly consumed a mixture of Magic Moment, Vodka, Elliot, Orijin and Smirnoff Ice.

She reportedly attended an award ceremony organized by theHistory Departmentof the institution held atTreasure Palace Hotel in Igando, Lagos.

A 200 level History and International Studies student, Olugbenga Pelumi explained how Gbadeyan lost her life, Thenation reports.

'Lara, who never took alcohol before, out of probable peer influence, decided to drink. During the course of the party, she drank many cups of alcoholic spirits (Elliot and Magic Moments). When she got drunk, Lara began to misbehave and her friends took it for the normal drama inherent in drunkenness. It, however, proved to be much more than that, as she began to shout and speak languages alien to the ears. Students who were present poured water on her, she asked to urinate, which she did. After a while, blood was seen dropping from her nose and later her mouth. She was rushed to a hospital. The students who were there initially felt it was as a result of her actions under the alcohol’s influence, because during the course of her drunkenness, she threw herself on the floor and her friends tried frantically to hold her. She was later rushed to a hospital.”
Pelumi said Lara was confirmed dead at the hospital.

The corpse of Gbadeyan, was taken to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital mortuary by other students before the case was reported to the police at Igando division where investigation is ongoing.

Thedoctor in chargewas quoted as saying “She took excessive alcohol, which she apparently has not taken before; this affected the flow of blood in her brain”.

Omope Olawunmi,a 200 level student of the same department said: “What you cannot do at home, don’t do it in school.

It’s not a must you take alcohol at parties, you can take malt or yoghurt. Girls should also imbibe the culture of self discipline.”
Another 200 level student, Maryam Rasaq, said: “University students should not misuse their freedom. The fact that you are in a university does not mean you have the right to behave anyhow. We should try as much as possible to be disciplined no matter the temptations and peer influence.”

A/Ibom medical university will tackle medical tourism – Group

The proposed medical university in Afaha Obong community in Akwa Ibom State will help stop many Nigerians from travelling abroad for treatment, an investment group, Thompson and Grace, has said.
Managing Director, of the group, Dr. Isaac Thompson Amos, stated this at the weekend at Abak Local Government during the ground breaking ceremony for the proposed medical university, and Parental Infusion and Dialysis Concentrate Plant.
Amos, said the justification for the university and its sister projects became necessary to deliberately ensure the promotion and enhancement of clinical education, research and delivery of healthcare which is grossly lacking in Sub-Saharan region.
He expressed dismay that new and chronic diseases are emerging on daily basis in Africa and the world without a corresponding increase in quantity and quality of health care workers to tackle such diseases.
Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel, said his administration would continue to partner the private sector towards boosting the economy of the state.
Represented by the deputy governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, the governor praised the Group Managing Director of Thompson & Grace, Dr. Isaac Amos for establishing the project in Akwa Ibom State.
