NYSC Fraud Alert–Beware of‘Scam Artists

National Youth Service Corps, NYSC fraud alert to prospective Corps members. PCM are warned not to make payments for posting or change of posting.

The attention of the NYSC Management has been drawn to the activities of some hackers sending messages requesting prospective Corps members to go and check their states of deployment online.
They refer their victims to a link and ask them to enter their login details as well as choices made during their online registration.

Management wishes to inform prospective Corps members that posting to states of deployment has not commenced; but will be done at the appropriate time in line with our laid down processes.

The so-called “link” being sent to prospective Corps members is handiwork of cyber criminals and should, therefore, be disregarded.
Prospective Corps members are particularly warned not to make payments for posting or change of posting as that is clearly the motive of the cyber criminals.
Management will inform prospective Corps members as soon as their posting letters are ready for printing online or delivery to their various institutions of graduation.

While assuring the public that the situation is fully under control, we shall continue to take measures to safeguard the integrity of the Mobilization process.

NOUN TMA & Course Registration Details, Deadline – 2015/16

National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN TMA and course registration for the 2015/2016 academic session has commenced.

This is to inform all the fresh and stale students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) that Tutor-Marked Assignment (TMA) and cource registration for the 2015/2016 academic session has commenced.

Also, note that slips indicating only current registered courses for Examination will be accepted during Examination.

Yaba College of Technology, YABATECH announced the suspension of academic activities for four weeks to allow Management, staff and students mourn Miss Charity Dazan.

The Academic Board rose from its sitting last night with a firm decision that academic activities be suspended for four weeks to allow Management, staff and students mourn Miss Charity Dazan.

The Board has ruled that students should vacate halls of residence latest 12 noon today, Thursday February 11, 2016

OAUTH doctors join Osun colleagues in solidarity strike

Resident doctors as well as consultants working with the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife will join their colleagues in the employ of the Osun State Government in solidarity strike as from next Wednesday.
Doctors working with all the local government councils in the state will also join the strike from the same day and the solidarity strike will end on Friday.
The announcement of the solidarity strike by the OAUTH doctors and local government doctors is contained a a communique signed by the Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association in Osun State, Dr. Suraj Ogunyemi and Secretary, Dr. Adeola Ajibare. A copy of the communique was made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Friday.
The strike will be preceded by a mass rally by all doctors from the Osun State Association of Medical and Dental Officers House to the House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The NMA which said this after an emergency general meeting of the association said the solidarity strike became necessary to press home the demands of the striking doctors in the state.
The communique read, ” Arising from the emergency general meeting to deliberate on the issues of no aid salaries and other issues pertaining to the welfare of doctors and their work environment, the following resolutions were made;
” That a peaceful protest rally would be staged from OSAMDO House to the Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday February 16, 2016 by 9:00am.
” That local government doctors working with Osun State, residents and consultants working with Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife will join the ongoing industrial action from 00:00 hour Wednesday February 17, 2016 till Friday 19, 2016.”
Members of OSAMDO and resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo started an indefinite strike since September 28, 2015 over payment of half salaries by the state government.
Based on the strike, the state government ordered the stoppage of their salaries since October and consultants at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital joined the strike on January 13 on the same grounds

Yobe State University, YSU registration procedure such as: mode of registration, mode of payment, venue and schedule of departmental registration with dates for the 2015/2016 academic session.
The authorities of the Yobe State University (YSU) have released the approved schedule for the central registration exercise for the 2015/2016 academic session.
A) Mode of Registration.
The usual procedure of Central Registration will be fully applied but to save time, online registration will be suspended this Academic Session.
Therefore, Course Registration Forms (CRF) will be distributed to Students by the Exams and Records Unit where they will be requested to fill them in writing.

Professor Tomola Obamuyi, Dean, School of Management Technology, Federal University of Technology, Akure, has been awarded the “Best Professor in Banking and Finance in Africa for the year 2015” by the Africa Education Leadership Awards. Yabatech Students Protest Death Of Colleague

Report reaching liveschoolnews.com.ng denoted that aggrieved students of the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos State, today, protest the death of one of their colleagues.
It was gathered that the aggrieved students embarked on the protest when the news of the death of an HND II student, Dazan Charity Olubukola who was admitted to the school medical centre filtered in.
liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine gathered that Dazan, who was a student of Food and Technology department, was said to have been maltreated by medical staff. The poor treatment, according to the grieving students was responsible for Dazan’s death and subsequent protest that grounded all academic activities.

100-level medical students, parents protest in Unilag

Medical students in 100 level at the University of Lagos and their parents on Wednesday disrupted academic and business activities in the institution.
The protesters, who shut the university’s main gate, accused the university authorities of denying them promotion to 200-level.
According to them, the authorities introduced some new academic rules that have denied many of them from proceeding to the university’s College of Medicine, Idi-Araba to continue their programme.
The protesters also argued that the new scheme was to allow the authorities to admit diploma students to the faculty. The protesters alleged that the diploma students paid handsomely for the offer.
However the authorities said the professional bodies regulating the study of medical programmes in the country, introduced a fresh index system to regulate the quota allocated to individual university.
The UNILAG Head, Information Unit, Mr. Toyin Adebule, made this known in a statement on Wednesday night.
According to him, UNILAG authorities will not want to flout such directive, as those admitted outside the quota will not be allowed to practice after graduation.
The statement read in part, “This year, the professional bodies have insisted on the enforcement of the quota upon which accreditation is hinged and hence the college has had to conform.  What this means is that only students that are indexed will be registered by the professional bodies to practice after graduation.
“Senate at its meeting held on Wednesday, 27th January, 2016 had approved the implementation of the re-arrangement to conform to the professional bodies’ quota in order not to lose accreditation. This has regrettably meant that we have only been able to receive students into the college only up to the number the College of Medicine is allowed by the quota.
“We recognise and regret that this has led to some students being unable to cross over into the College of Medicine or their course of choice. Consequently, all candidates who were not successful to be placed in programmes in CMUL have been allocated to appropriate programmes on the main campus in Akoka.”

The good this is she has sued the university and claiming damages for violating her fundamental rights.
Pictured above is the female student that was expelled from Rivers State University of Science and Technology for having “speech and hearing challenges”. She has sued for N20million for the injustice.
According to her parents, she wasn’t born deaf, but the sudden illness came upon her at 6yrs old.
Ms Jane Ihuoma Ottah however said nothing will hinder her from getting educated and fulfilling her dreams of becoming a lecturer in life.
With her determination, she scaled through Primary school, made her WAEC in one sitting, but Rivers State University of Science & Technology is now trying to cut her dreams short.

1. Kwara State University:Kwara state University (kwasu) still stand as the number one university with the fastest academic calendar. It was number one in 2015 and still remains number one still date. Her resumption for 2015/2016 (1st semester to be precise) started in August 2015 and presently they are in their 2nd semester which is ending in April 2016. April marks the end of 2015/2016 session for Kwara State University.

4. University Of Ilorin:Unilorin was known as the 2nd University with a fast academic calendar in Nigeria in 2015. Unilorin’s 2015 slow admission exercise and lateness in releasing admission list as we believe might have hindered them from retaining the 2nd position. But unfortunately, Unilorin released both DE/UTME list and resumption date came a week after the release of the list which made them drop to the the 4th place. Resumption date was 28th of October and 1st semester exam is presently in progress.
5. Delta State University:Resumption was on the 9th of November and First semester examination is expected to begin on the 15th of February 2016.

8. Federal University of Technology Akure :FUTA resumption date for the 2015/2016 session started on the 24th of November November . First semester examination is expected to begin on the 29th of February 2016.
9. Federal University Oye-Ekiti:FUOYE took up the 9th position as one of the University with a fast academic calendar. Its resumption date for the 2015/2016 was on the 23rd of November and First semester examination is expected to begin on the 14th of March 2016.
10. Nnamdi Azikwe University:UNIZIK took up the 10th position as her resumption date for 2015/2016 started on the 23rd of November 2015 and First semester examination is expected to begin on the 1st of March 2016

Free School Meal: FG partners NASCO to produce‘special’biscuit

In keeping to its campaign promises of providing quality education in the country, the Federal Government has signed a memorandum of understanding with NASCO Foods limited, Jos for commercial production of high nutrient density biscuit for the national school feeding programme.

Speaking at the occasion at the weekend, the Director General and CEO, Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Dr. Mrs. Gloria Elemo, said the MoU was meant to provide a strategic guide for the collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Federal Institute–of Industrial Research Oshodi and Nasco Foods Limited, Jos on commercial production of High Nutrient Density Biscuit.
The initiative was an innovation of FIIRO for the National School Feeding Programme in the spirit of the Public-Private Partnership promoted by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The FIIRO boss stated that the strategic collaboration was one of the approaches that the institute considered and adopted to partner with relevant organizations that can make’significant contributions to the realization of its mandate.

‘‘This is based on the realization that an Institute- on its own cannot· make the much desired impact without collaborating with relevant organizations. Collaboration with strategic partners/organizations which could commercialize the Institute’s many innovations.’’

With this collaboration, Elemo assured that jobs and wealth would be created, while the national GDP will be enhanced through the productive sector of the economy.

She maintained that technology was the way to go for Nigeria to diversify her economy, most especially at this juncture of our national history when the nation is giving serious attention to utilization of indigenous technologies and the instrument of science and technology as a potent strategy to diversify the economy to provide alternative revenue sources.
The project she said was conceived out of the need to address the increasing food insecurity which had become a major concern especially for children between the ages 5 and 13 who are mainly primary school children.

‘‘It is heartwarming that the Federal government of Nigeria is conscious of the need to provide adequately for the future generation through the National School Feeding Programme”adding that the programme will lead to increase in pupils’enrollment in schools; boost school attendance and child nutrition; enhance retention rates; promote general improvement in cognitive abilities of
children as well as catalyzing tremendous economic stimulus.

The HND biscuit is developed from indigenous crops which will be commercially produced domestically with this arrangement.

Elemo revealed that the choice of Nasco Foods Limited in this partnership was based on the company’s integrity and experience in the industry.

For her, the event signified the technical commencement of strategic partnership with Nasco Foods Limited to fully commercialize the High Nutrient Density biscuit production technology.

Similarly, the FIIRO DG said the agency was already working with other strategic partners to produce drinks based on our formulation to compliment the biscuit for effective- administration of the National School Feeding Programme.--- reporter Vanguard News

Daniel Olukoya 'Mountaintop University is not for students that cannot pray'

The General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries,Dr. Daniel Olukoya, has said that the Mountain Top University, Magboro, Ogun State, is not for students who cannot pray or detest prayers, Punch reports.
Speaking during the February edition of thespiritualexercise, ‘Power Must Change Hands,’ he mentioned that the students and staff of the school regularly undergo intense prayers.

He said, “This university is not for students who cannot pray.”
Commending lecturers for their commitment to ensuring a robust academic environment, the cleric pledged that the university would endeavour to pursue its lofty objectives.

Olukoya also urged interested members of the church to participate in the ‘adopt a student’ scheme.
The scheme is an initiative conceived by the church leadership in conjunction with authorities of the university to assist indigent and brilliant students to realise their academic dreams.

MrLanre Ogunyemi, the Chairman,LagosState House of Assembly Committee on Education, said the State Government would soon begin to implement its "A-meal-a-day’’ programme in public primary schools.
Ogunyemi told the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos that the programme was a campaign promise of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The lawmaker said that the state government was sincere about implementing it.
"I am aware that the state government is making efforts to dot all the 'I's and cross all the 'T's.
"We are sure that in a couple of months, the state government will start the programme,’’ Ogunyemi told NAN, while he commended the Kaduna State Government for blazing the trail regarding it.
He said that the Federal Government would collaborate with state governments to execute the programme.
According to him, the Federal Government will provide 60 per cent of the cost while each of the states will complement it by contributing 40 per cent.
He said the intervention of the Federal Government would alleviate the financial burden that the states might likely incur from implementing the programme.
Ogunyemi, however, debunked criticisms from some quarters that the funds meant to implement the programme should have been expended on providing infrastructure in schools.
He said that such infrastructure would be of good use when the children that would use them were emotionally stable to learn.
"What profit will it be if we put the infrastructure in place and the environment is conducive to learning but the pupils do not have the psychological, emotional and physical well-being to learn?
"All the requirements are interwoven thing: As we provide infrastructure for the schools, we must also see to the well-being of the pupils that will use the infrastructure in their schools.
"A child should be adequately and emotionally stable to be able to acquire and retain knowledge.
"A child, who is not well fed, who can hardly take one square-meal per day from the parent is bound to be frustrated at school.
"Such is not likely to imbibe knowledge,’’ Ogunyemi said.
The lawmaker said that the programme was a laudable one that would help the nation to produce a crop of responsible future leaders.
NAN recalls that Gov.Akinwunmi Ambodeof Lagos State had said that the government’s "A-meal-a-day” programme in public primary schools would start this year.
Ambode had said that the programme would improve the daily nutrition of children, create job opportunities, enhance income generation and alleviate poverty among others.

Afe Babalola University Crisis Struggling students protest not being allowed in exam hall

Some students ofAfe Babalola University,Ado-Ekiti,who were struggling with their academics and therefore banned form exam hall, have stageda violent proteston Sunday, February 7.
Chairman of the Planning and Implementation Committee ofAfe Babalola University, Professor Isaac Orubuloyeexplained the reasons behind the protest.
“The regulation of the university is that if you don’t attend classes 90% of the period, you will not be allowed to write exams. If you don’t register for examination, you will not be allowed to write exams.
“We have decided this time around to implement these policies to the letter. So, all students that ran afoul of these two provisions were denied from entering the examination and I think that is one of the remote causes of what has happened.

“Quite a number of them couldn’t write exams and there is no way they could explain to their parents that they were in school and they did not write examination.”
He also condemned the violent turn of events. He said that the protest was out of line as property worth millions of naira have been destroyed by the protesters.
“They went beyond ordinary protest. When people started to loot in the shops, then that becomes a crime – a serious crime.
“They looted some shops, damaged some vehicles and those things have nothing to do with their protest,” he said.
He, however, assured all parents and stakeholders to be calm as the situation was under control and calm has since returned to the university.
