JAMB 2016 Sale Of Forms Closes this Friday

The Authority of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said that Sales of the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations UTME, forms close on Friday, 29 January.
The board has also approved more computer-based test CBT, examination centres across the country.
Head of Media and Information, JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin who spoke with our correspondent Wednesday, disclosed that the examination body will conduct the 2016 UTME between February and March.
He said: “JAMB has approved more centres to give Nigerians the best computer-based test. He explained that the CBT examination would hold in over 400 centres within and outside Nigeria.
Benjamin who vowed that JAMB will ensure that every CBT centre meets best global requirements, said, “this year, there are innovations to ensure candidates write under the conditions.’’
According to him, Some of the requirements given to the operators of the centres; are steady power supply, 200 computers, including Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), accessible road, security and a waiting room.

Scrap JAMB, Don Tells FG

A University don, Professor John Okpako Enaowho, has called for the scrapping of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in order to avoid retrogression in education
Delivering his paper entitled “Formal planning development in Nigeria education: The paradox of autonomy and dependence” of which he delved extensively on funding challenges in the universities, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port-Harcourt said that universities can generate fund for self-sustenance.
While condemning the centralisation powers of NUC, the don stated that by scrapping JAMB, universities can admit as many students as possible to enable them generate money to operate independently.
He cited the United States of America which has eight of the best 10 universities in the world that have free hands to operate, adding that education should be removed from the shoulders of the Federal Government as it has so much at hand.

Declare Your Assets Now, NYSC Boss Tells Staff

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has ordered its personnel whose assets declaration dates are due to make such declaration immediately in line with the code of conduct for public officers.

Director-General of the scheme Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi gave the directive at the opening ceremony of its 2016 Annual Management Conference (AMC) taking place in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
He said the NYSC Management had been very consistent in the enforcement of periodic assets declaration by members of staff as well as ensuring strict adherence to policy guidelines in all aspects of the scheme’s operations.
Reviewing the activities of the scheme, Olawumi recalled with delight the participation of corps members in the successful conduct of the 2015 General Elections.
“I therefore wish to commend the political class, security agencies, and the electorate for their support to Corps members during the exercise. We assure all Nigerians that given such opportunity in the future, we will not disappoint the nation,”he added.
He also said the scheme, through its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), launched a holistic medical outreach targeted at the rural poor nationwide last year.
The DG added that the programme would be sustained, and would especially be used in assisting the country to contain the spread of lassa fever.
Olawumi called on state governments as well as other  international and private organizations to support the HIRD achieve its objective of contributing to quality healthcare delivery to all nooks and crannies of the country.
He also urged stakeholders, especially corporate bodies and individual philantropists, to assist towards sustaining the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative which was introduced with the aim of providing succour to corps members who suffer permanent disability during the service year.
The DG told the gathering that the scheme had installed latest security chips that could track a distressed caller easily, and went on to advise corps members to always call the NYSC Distress Call Centre whenever the need arises.
He thanked all host communities and security agencies nationwide as well as other stakeholders, including the Delta State Government, for their support towards the welfare and safety of corps members.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, NYSC Directorate Headquarters Venerable Temitope Ajayi said the AMC would generate ideas and formulate new strategies with the aim of enhancing productivity and service delivery for effective management of the youth.

“The focus of this conference is, therefore, to brainstorm and come up with practicable solutions that will reposition and promote the ideals of the scheme in the face of the present challenges of the operating environment,”he added.

'History, religious studies to be compulsory in secondary schools,' minister for education

History and religious subjects are to become compulsory in all public primary and secondary schools in Nigeria, the Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu has said.

Adamu who disclosed the Federal Government plan at the closing ceremony of the National Qur'anic Recitation Competition held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, added that the curriculum was part of efforts towards improving the educational sector and moral values.

“The circular would soon be released regarding to the compulsory teaching of religious subjects and history in schools,” Adamu said.

Adamu added that the present government is committed towards improving the quality of education both in public and private schools in the country.

He urged parents, particularly those in rural areas, to encourage their wards to go to schools.

Former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan as said that, to promote the development of Africa, there needs to be better security and education.

Speaking at the Geneva Press Club in Switzerland during a publicised world press conference on “Security, Education and Development in Africa”, he said, he did his best to promote education when he was in power.

He said, “If you peruse the official UNESCO literacy rates by country, what you will find is that all of the top 10 most literate nations in the world are at peace, while almost all of the top 10 least literate nations in the world are in a state of either outright war or general insecurity.

“Lower education levels are linked to poverty and poverty is one of the chief causative factors of crime whether it is terrorism or militancy or felonies.

“With this at the back of my mind, I began the practice of giving education the highest sectoral allocation beginning with my very first budget as President in 2011.”

Jonathan adds, “As I have always believed, if we do not spend billions educating our youths today, we will spend it fighting insecurity tomorrow. And you do not have to spend on education just because of insecurity. It is also the prudent thing to do.

“Nigeria, or any African nation for that matter, can never become wealthy by selling more minerals or raw materials such as oil. Our wealth as a nation is between the ears of our people.”

In Kaduna University lecturer suspended over hateful Facebook post

Authorities at the Kaduna State University has suspended a senior lecturer over a hateful comment he made on his Facebook page, PremiumTimes reports.

The lecturer, John Danfulani, in December, launched attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress,  APC, President MohammadU Buhari and uneducated children in the north.

The Facebook comment partly read, " To them, APC is a religious party. Northern leaders under the party are demigods and crusaders of their ways of life. These people living in dusty villages of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa are quick in calling you ‘Arne or Kafiri’ (Meaning Pagan) once you express your view on anything their God PMB and his brigade of small Angels are doing. Attack the attacker, and lets the skies fall.”

He subsequently deleted his Facebook page after receiving backlash when the post went Viral among Kaduna residents.

Mr Danfulani, who is currently out of the country, has been accused by the University of making a speech that can be termed “divisive, injurious and tantamount to hate speech”.

In a query dated January 6, signed by the school registrar, Talatu A Kuri, the university said the lecturer should explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for a comment he posted on the social media.

“The content of the publication you authored is divisive, injurious to the University and tantamount to hate speech capable of inciting particular group of students against staff and other students. This behaviour is unbecoming of a lecturer who is supposed to mould students’ character and impart learning,” the letter said.

In his response, Mr. John said he was not furnished with details of his offence.

“It is a large world of dozens of platforms, most of which are yet to be in full practice in Nigeria. I have pages that upload my opinions on multifaceted local and international issues when my conscience and spirit direct me to do so,” he wrote.

“Because of this, I do not know on which of the platforms the piece that generated this query was hoisted because your query did not contain such details.”

He added: “My wall, updates and writings in the social media are all in my private capacity and not in my official capacity as a Lecturer with the University”.

Not satisfied with his response, the school authority suspended him from the university.

Olanrewaju Fagbohun LASU VC clear out old certificates “The present administration is working assiduously to restore the lost glory of the institution."

Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun has said he will be clearing the backlog of certificates within the next four months, Vanguard reports.

Speaking on  Wednesday, Fagbohun assured that a task force will be created to resolve the issue of backlog of certificates at the university’s External System.

The VC said, “The task force will search for the profile of students, identify the problems and proffer a solution to them."

Some graduated students have lamented the fact that the institution is yet to issue their certificates. Some have allegedly been unable to get a job, sacked from a job, or skipped for promotion because they have not been able to tender proof that they graduated from LASU.

The VC has also said that peace has returned to the university, and that Nigerians need not panic for his aim objective is to take LASU back to the top.

“The present administration is working assiduously to restore the lost glory of the institution.

“LASU is an institution with staff and students full of potentials. It is an institution bubbling with students that have fantastic skills and ideas to be explored by the world,"the VC said.

NYSC to begin quarterly orientation courses (4 Batches)

Director General of the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, yesterday, said that the scheme would soon conduct its orientation course for prospective corps members on a quarterly basis to accommodate the increasing number of graduates being turned out by accredited institutions for the scheme.

Olawumi, who disclosed this in Asaba, Delta State, during the opening ceremony of the 2016 annual management conference of the scheme, appealed to states that do not have permanent orientation camps to expedite action on same.

He noted that the provision of NYSC permanent orientation camp was a statutory responsibility of state governments and part of their contributions to human capital and youth development.

He said the theme of this year’s conference was selected to address some of the challenges confronting the scheme to enable it achieve the desired objectives of the founding fathers.

Identifying sudden increase in corps population with accompanying decrease in the budgetary allocation and rejection of corps members by employers as some of the major challenges that confront the scheme, he expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for its consistent support for the scheme over the years.

Olawumi said the choice of Delta State to host this year’s conference was unanimously agreed upon by NYSC management to complement its unflinching support to the scheme.
He said, “While the scheme appreciates the consistent co-operation of corps employers over the years, it further appeals that rather than reject corps members who actually are on national assignment, a budgetary provision should be made for them at the beginning of every year by both public and private organisations in the country.

“Last year, the scheme through the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, HIRD, lunched a holistic medical outreach targeted at the rural poor. The programme which is designed to take the primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria to a higher level will be sustained in view of the recent outbreak of Lassa fever disease in 17 states of the federation because of the wide spread of corps members in the 774 local governments of the country.”

In his address, the Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, urged managers of the scheme to continue to “Let corps members know that the years ahead promise to be exciting but there is need to display necessary caution as current challenges in the country need to be addressed.”

The closing date for the registration of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as announced by JAMB, has been extended till 31st January.

We therefore wish to advise all Myschoolers who are yet to purchase their 2016 UTME forms to do so on or before January 31st, 2016.

This also extends to candidates who are still waiting for supplementary or additional list of their choice schools for the 2015/2016 admission year to be released.
It is always a bad idea to have all your eggs in one basket. There is no 100% guarantee that your name will appear on the list even if the school eventually releases it.

To be on a safe side, get the JAMB form before it expires. That way, even if you miss the 2015/2016 admission, you will still stand a chance in the 2016/2017 session.
Also remember the examination is expected to commence February 29th 2016 (all things being equal). You can make the most of the remaining time by using our JAMB CBT tools and materials as well as keep your self updated

Please Help! We Are Not Save - NYSC Members Cry Out

Six corps members in the Osiele area of Ogun State say they are now living in fear since January 13, 2016, when a gang of robbers stormed their apartments and carted away their valuables.
They said the incident was reported at the Odeda Police Station, but the police had yet to visit the scene.
The robbers, who were armed with cutlasses, burgled two flats, where the victims reside around 4am penultimate Wednesday, carting away foodstuffs, laptops, a television set and mobile phones, among others.A lady said, “They stole my HP laptop, an iPhone and a Samsung tablet. They told us to lie down...”
A corps member, who is serving at the Abeokuta South LGA, Paul Wisdom, said he wrote a letter to the state Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, on the incident, but his letter had also got no reply.
According to Punch, Wisdom urged the police and the NYSC to investigate the incident and beef up security in the area to prevent a recurrence.
He said, “Four of us live in a flat. They came in through the window around 4am, wielding cutlasses and charms. They went into our kitchen and packed all our foodstuffs. They also made away with our laptops, mobile phones, television and money. We do not have any security here. We reported at the Odeda Police Station, but the police have not come here since then. I also wrote a letter to the NYSC state coordinator, through Abeokuta South Local Government Inspector last Monday. They have not got back to me since. We are in a strange land; we don’t have relatives here. We have been living in fear. The burglar-proof that was destroyed by robbers has not been fixed by the landlord and we don’t have any other place to go.
“The police should investigate and know what actually happened. In an area like this, most of the hoodlums would be known to the police authorities. If they can trace one of the stolen items to a person, they will be able to arrest the suspects.”
Another affected corper, Olamide Olowoniyi, said she and her friend, Ekawu Godsfavour, heard a loud bang in their neigbours’ apartment and wanted to check what was happening when the robbers overpowered them.
Olamide said, “They stole my gold jewellery, my Samsung X6 and my laptop. They also took the cash in my wallet. There has never been a vigilance group guarding this area; the security is never tight.”

*.Be at least 17 years old and not more than 21 years old at the time of entry into the Academy. Note that Nigerian Airforce candidates must be between 17 and 18years old at entry.
*.Must not be less than 1.68 metres tall for male and 1.50 metres for female.
*.Must be medically and physically fit and must be of good moral character.
*.Must be single male or female without legal obligation to support any child or other individuals.
*.Present a Certificate of Origin obtained from a Local Government Area and a Certificate of State indigene ship from the Office of the State Governor is desirable.

*.Only examination results of 5 years from date will be accepted.
*.Currently, admission into the academy is for both male and female Nigerians only.
NDA 68thRegular Course Method of Application.
Candidates should logon to the application portal www.ndaapplications.net. select “Purchase Access Code” and fill in their details to pay for their application via REMITA after first obtaining their ORDER ID and REMITA Retrieval Reference (RRR) Code in the sum of N3,000.00 only. Please note that only payment against RRR Codes generated via the application portal would be accepted.
Interested candidates are advised to go online and complete the application on the websites indicated above. Please download and read carefully, the Instructions provided on the website. Applicants applying for admission into NDA MUST also apply to the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), but may not necessarily select NDA as their choice of university. Such applicants are expected to sit for the JAMB Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applications should be submitted online. On completion of the online application, candidates are to download an Acknowledgement Form. Upon release of the JAMB results, candidates should return to the applications portal and download their Examination Admission Card. Only candidates who make the JAMB national cut-off mark will be allowed to participate in the NDA Entrance Examination.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

EXAMINATION CONDITIONS
Only candidates who meet the JAMB national cutoff mark will be eligible to sit for the NDA Entrance Examination at their Examination Centre of choice.
The examination will be conducted as an Entrance Examination (similar to Post-UTME examination in conventional universities), and is scheduled to hold on Saturday 23 April 2016. Therefore, all eligible candidates are to bring along their Acknowledgement Form, Examination Admission Card, JAMB result slip and TWO (2) postcard sized (3.5 x 5 inches) photographs to the Examination Centre on the examination date. The photographs should show only from the chest upwards and should contain the candidate’s Name, Exam number, State, Exam Centre, Course of study and Signature at the back. Only successful candidates at the NDA Entrance Examination will subsequently be invited for the Armed Forces Selection Board following which the list of admitted candidates will be published.
NATURE AND DURATION OF TRAINING
Admitted candidates into NDA for the Regular Course will undergo military and academic training as Officer Cadets for a duration of 5 years. On successful completion of training, graduands will earn a honours degree in a core discipline (BSc, BEng, BA). They will equally earn a commission into the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
ADMINISTRATION
Regular Course cadets will train in NDA. All aspects of the cadets’ administration and logistics will be borne by the Federal Government.

In response to requests from candidates for reference materials, the Academy has offered a Compendium of Past Questions & Answers at a token fee to interested candidates. This can be purchased from the Registry Department, NDA.
