UNILAG Finally Resumes Lectures

The University of Lagos (UNILAG), have finally resume lectures after a protest by the students of the institution, over the electrocution of a female student.

9jaSchoolGist recalls that academic activities at the university were paralysed on Wednesday as students of the institution protested against the death of Oluchi, a 300-Level student of the Department of Accounting.
Twenty-two-year-old Oluchi and her sister were returning from an evening Mass, when the high-tension wire fell on them at about 7pm.

The protest led by the students union, grounded academic and administrative activities on campus, forcing the Vice Chancellor, Prof Rahamon Bello, to address the angry students.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof Duro Oni, said: ‘’Unilag is not shut. We are in our offices and have attended various meetings. Lectures are ongoing and the campus is peaceful.’’

A lecturer at the Political Science Department who declined to be named confirmed students’ protest but reiterated that: “The university was never shut and that calm has returned to the institution.
Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Laja Odukoya, said the information that the university was shut because of the protest was false and that his members have been lecturing the students.

9jaSchoolGist gathered that Oluchi’s remains would be taken to the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State on Friday (today) for burial. May her soul rest in peace.
